Big chunk of one of my large trees blew down and broke apart during a storm earlier this week. I obtained three names and numbers of tree services from friends and called Sunshine late that afternoon. Before 8 a.m. the following morning Todd had looked at the damage and the whole tree and gave me a verbal assessment of what needed to be done, what the price would be, and when the work could be done (same day). Shortly, I received an email confirmation of our conversation and sent back acceptance as I liked their quick response, what I thought was a reasonable price, and straight assessment without any up-selling. Within a short time, Todd called to update me on time of arrival of his crew. By 11 a.m., there were 4 guys in my yard working on the tree and debris removal. They worked diligently in rainy weather to complete the job. Every bit of debris was cleaned up and the tree looks great and is so much safer now. I was very pleased with their excellent service and will absolutely call them again if the need arises. This is a family business located near Old Downtown Overland Park.

The project manager recommended Grade-A Landscaping to remove a large berm that held one of the trees. They unearthed a lot of surprises, and overcame so many challenges. More improvements followed and the end results were so impressive. We hired them to remove several evergreen trees and shrubs from our beds, but primarily to address a large area in the front where soil runoff and tree roots were problematic. We are beyond pleased with the new retaining wall (pictured). A few days later a driver miscalculated parking in the driveway and broke the corner stones. I texted Nick and while weather caused delays he kept me in the loop until a couple weeks later when the team arrived and fixed it. These guys really care and own up to their commitments. This failed to do the tree any good at all; actually might have hastened its demise,but Dylan Bland didn't hesitate to charge and retain$500:00 of an impoverished person's money for a cheap fix that was doomed to failure. He also allowed his company to be weaponized by a spiteful neighbor who was compelled by the city to remove dead limbs that would fall over power lines and cause a loss of power for many neighbors.This neighbor demanded Bland run a heavy boom truck over a waterlogged portion of his yard for the purpose of killing the root systems of the next door neighbor's trees and shrubs. Bland eventually had to use the driveway because he couldn't drive his truck through the mud although he spent an hour trying. He should have insisted on using the drive or refused the job but that would require some professional integrity.

Everyone tells you when you first buy a house that you'll uncover something that requires more cash…read morethan you'd like to part with right away. For us, it was a gnarly, tall, dead, poison ivy covered, rotting tree that in my mind was ready to fall on my car or roof. My experience with A-Alpha clocks in at a 3.5 stars, with some ups and downs, and eventually rounded up for customer service. I was shocked by some initial quotes on just how much it is to not only get a tree down but remove the wood. Shocked. Like $1500/$1600. Gross. We saw the positive reviews from A-Alpha that were totally confirmed when I met with the owner, Calvin. Calvin is super friendly, super responsible and has more reasonable rates. I visited with him and requested a certificate of insurance which he was able to provide for my property faster than I could get the words out -- a great sign. He penciled us in during the busy season (spring) and had a crew out two days later chopping and chipping away. The whole thing was done in an afternoon. Now I have to say, I was bummed when I went outside and saw some massive holes in my yard and a large cracked piece of sidewalk. The crew told me they'd come back and fix that the next day which didn't happen specifically then, but Calvin stayed in frequent contact to make sure they'd make it right. He was a upset with the crew and insisted that this should never happen, that a mistake was made and again that they'd get it handled quickly. They did. They also filled the holes with topsoil and grass seed which I'll have to monitor to get it growing again. It kind of stinks because with the older neighborhood I'm in, the concrete doesn't come close to matching and sticks out like a sore thumb, but really there's nothing anyone can do about that. Spending a ton of money on something like this is never fun, nor is having something go a bit wrong with the project, but when someone makes it right that goes a long way for me. If I hadn't ever heard from them again I'd be livid, but this case was pretty much the opposite. That being said, I hope to hell I never need them again because parting ways with a lot of money to have a tree go bye-bye is not one of life's finer moments!

We were scheduled again and was canceled because " a worker had other plans". I. had to repeatedly contact him to get it rescheduled. He finally told me he was going on vacation and could not get it done. When I asked him about meeting the insurance companies time line he sent a text that said "I can't guarantee anything at this point over a week away. I will call you when I get back, and if you still need it done, I'll be more than happy to take care of you." I ended up signing with another tree company who completed the job in 5 days. Don't waste your time with this company.

Recent high winds caused a critical crack to develop in my 30 foot tall, double stem oak tree.
