Our room was compact but really warm, comfy, modern and well-equipped, better than most hotels! Breakfast in the morning was great too and the host, Diane, was very welcoming. Being in Tideswell, it's easy to get to Castleton and the heart of the Peak District and also near enough to Bakewell and Buxton. Tideswell itself is a nice village and has a Co-Op, a bank and pubs that do food until 8.30pm. We had our own set of keys so that we could come and go as we needed and there's space to park on the street outside. It might not be for you if you have children or need lots of communal space - but it's an ideal B&B if you need somewhere to come back to and relax in at the end of a day in the Peak District.

This property also has a golf course, so you'll see lots of foot traffic around the back side, where there's a restaurant and golf shop. We stayed at the property for a couple of nights and our room was great. It faced the interior, so we could see a beautiful flower garden and more of a wooded area. Our room was a bit dated but well maintained. One thing I did not realize until we arrived is that our room, at least (and maybe all rooms), did not have air conditioning. Luckily for us, the (summer) temperature was comfortable, but this could be an issue if you visit during a hot spell. We had breakfast at the hotel restaurant both mornings and it was delightful. A traditional English spread (buffet) with self seating. Overall, staff was great. The only thing I'd caution against is the amount of stairs you'll have to go up and down trying to get from one place to the other just within the hotel since the topography has rooms and hallways at all levels. Pack lightly or ask for your bags to be delivered to your room at arrival.

Situated in a very accessible rural location, on the south-eastern fringe of the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire, the hall is family run and you feel it. Attentive, without ever being over the top, with each of the 8 rooms individual in style and feel. A case of take your pick! The venue doubles as a hotel day by day and I'd recommend it to anyone who is passing through The Peak District or spending time in or around Chatsworth House.

Plus points: - clean and tidy - friendly and efficient staff - a pretty serviceable menu in the Bar and Grill Foodwise, the dinner menu is pretty good, with an emphasis on meaty dishes; they advertise that all their beef is from Derbyshire, aged, etc., and I've heard no complaints. The kitchen also does a good line in starters, high points including calamari ( so simple, so easy to screw up), and a very nice game terrine. If I was to sum it up, it's an uncomplicated, and perhaps slightly old fashioned menu, but probably well suited to the clientele and with a serviceable wine list. The rooms seem to be large, reasonably comfortble, and boasting the mod cons one would expect lots of exposed brick and is-it-a-wardrobe shiny wood. On the downside:- my room had a monsoon shower, but no bath- the shower produced a stale-smelling trickle of water, not the gushy tropical downpour one would hope for - the sink appeared to be able to produce hot water, but not cold . Not great for shaving or brushing your teeth - breakfast, some mornings, appear to be not-quite-ready after the restaurant has opened; quite inconvenient if you're looking for an early start - the room service menu is rather staid and changes irregularly; incidentally the menus in the room have only a vague resemblance to what is actually available - the bar is fairly pricey £9.50 for a double G & T seems a bit steep, even to a Londoner. I could also whine about the room being over heated, the sheets over-starched, or noise in the morning, but in my experience these are true of most bigger hotels anywhere in the world, so it would be somewhat unfair.

Bar staff didn't have a clue, and even less when it came to serving breakfast. The waitress, who brought me the wrong breakfast order, asked me if I was sure I ordered what I ordered from her... I mean, seriously?? At the bar she really had no idea of any of the spirits or how to pour a drink - the lime slices were brown and manky around the edges and had clearly been cut days earlier. And the music in the bar was so loud we had to ask for it to be turned down, we couldn't hear across the table. The breakfast for 14 pounds was a laugh - the 'buffet table' was a joke. Coffee - o dear, stick to the tea. The rooms are actually quite nicely appointed, if small, but no wardrobe, just a nook, and no fridge, iron or ironing board. I got an ironing board sent up with an iron which promptly ruined the shirt I put it on as the plate was covered in some burnt substance I could not get off my shirt. I know you are thinking I should have checked, but I did puff the steam and wipe it on the board before use, however it seems the cotton was especially good at attracting the debris. [sigh] And then 5 pounds an hour for wifi - really?? And lastly the pillows are truly diabolical - it they cost more than 50p each I would be amazed, they were a shocker. When we went to get a coffee in the reception area we were informed we had checked out and had to pay cash (we hadn't) and I was not offered an itemised bill to check before they took my payment. All in all, you could do worse - but give it a hard think.

The extensive menu options, quality of the food and most importantly, they are open all day until 9pm, with room service as well. All too often, I will check into a hotel after flying all night from the US, coupled with a train journey, only to discover my hotel's on-site restaurant is only open for breakfast, and dinner starting at 5pm. The last thing a traveler with my schedule wants is to be required to forage for a decent, relaxing place for a meal after checking in. Definitely not an issue at the DoubleTree. I travel to Nottingham on business at least four times per year. I used to stay in the city center, but the environment is two hectic and the hotels are not nearly as nice as the DoubleTree. However you don't stay inside a hotel because the outside is beautiful, you stay for the rooms amenities, layout, hot water, room service, etc. The WaterCloset: The linoleum tile in the bath room was coming up. There was clearly water damage in the water closet. When you open the door to the WC it opens into the WC, which would be fine if the layout was different. Instead of adding a *pocket door* thy made the door open to the tub. So when you step out of the shower/tub, you conveniently step on the door stopper! Ouchies. The door stopper is literally in the middle of the step out of the tub. Hot water was meh. There is a tub but you can't soak in it comfortably. The shower head was okay. Mixed reviews (ak unreliable) on water pressure and temperature. Depending on time of day. The Room Layout: Family was staying in the two level room, and meh. If you wanted space I would argue you don't get much more. And if you're older the stairs may seem fine but family review said the two story not worth it. I would agree, it felt smooshed. The double room with two twin beds were meh. There is no air flow in the bed rooms like in America. The UK also clearly doesn't know what a GFI outlet is, good luck if you think you can do your hair in the bathroom. And the window in our room was a sky light so if there is a fire and you can't jump up and at a 30 degree angle inward, and the fire is by your door... good luck. The Staff: Mid. No wow factor. Didn't seem too much to care about the guests stay. Interacted with three front desk gentleman. Their uniforms could be improved. Very cheap uniforms. Location: Good location to downtown. But there are other hotels nearby to stay at. Overall: Overpriced and overhyped.

I also appreciated the option to skip daily room cleaning, which came with a voucher--I saved them up and enjoyed a great late drink. Overall, it was a wonderful experience, and I will definitely stay here again when visiting family.
