Everything in the room was so clean and tidy, it looks like there were recent updates perhaps? The king suite had plenty of space to lounge and spread out. Plenty of closet space and a large dresser for all your clothes. Lots of extra pillows and blankets as well. There are so many windows to let in a fresh breeze, and ceiling fans were a bonus. Outlets everywhere and alarm clocks have usb and charging outlets on them. Wifi is available and they will provide the password at check in. The kitchenette was small but functional with a mini fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker(kcup style) and a small sink. The bathroom has a full size vanity and cabinets of clean towels and extras. There's a separate fish cleaning room on site which was a huge bonus. Some cutlery, storage bags, cutting boards and a sink for washing up. There's also a small chest freezer that can be used to store the cleaned fish if needed. I saw some gathering spaces outside- a fire pit with chairs around it and a patio with a grill, cooler and plenty of seating. Many rooms also has glider rocking chairs outside the door and I really enjoyed using those! My only complaint would be that there's no coat rack. Not entirely necessary but it rained all weekend and we ran out of chairs to hang all our gear for drying. Edit to add that we met one of the owners this morning, Julie, and she's as kind as can be! Had a nice long talk about the Inn and future plans. Also our room did not have a true kitchenette, I was mistaken. those rooms had already been booked. However the space we had was useful and far better than most hotels offer. Hopefully we can book one of the kitchenette rooms next spring!

None of that 300 room hotel just off the freeway nonsense here. Just 12 recently remodeled rooms with a balcony view of the Mississippi just across the street. Rooms have a mini-fridge, microwave, Wi-Fi with great speeds and a strong signal. Owners are the greatest. Check-in was a breeze. We had left a fan in the room for white noise at night (which we never used). Received a text shortly after that we had left it behind. When we returned, we got the backstory of 'Coco The Queen of the Mississippi' The Inn's rescue cat. The Queen graced us with a visit while sitting on our ground floor deck on a couple of occasions. As others have noted, there are freight trains that come through now and then. Which for me, a guy, is a plus and is pretty cool to watch. We both slept through it without trouble. No horn, loud bangs, sparking wheels or any of that movie sort of stuff.

I didn't open the rooms with closed doors, as it seemed there were a couple of guests staying there, which is cool! This place has the look and feel of history, and we enjoyed seeing the antique furniture, framed portraits, and layout of the rooms. The Joseph Fugina House has a main floor that you can rent, complete with two bedrooms, a living room, dining room and kitchen. Upstairs, there are three separate rooms that can be rented. They each have their own bathroom, with a shared kitchen upstairs and a shared living room downstairs. I would highly recommend looking that their website, as the photos really show how beautiful this space is. They also rent out the Prairie School House just down the street. That's a full house (no separate rooms for rent). The renovators and designers did an incredible job. Walking into the Joseph Fugina House is like stepping into a Pottery Barn or Pier 1 photo shoot. Great attention has been paid to details. Our room in the Joseph Fugina House had wonderful windows that let in a lot of light and overlooked the Mississippi River. There was also a small patio with two chairs where you could sit outside and enjoy the view. Each room has a Keurig coffee maker. The proprietors even restocked us with some Chai tea and decaff which my wife asked for! We loved our stay and would absolutely, without question, stay here again. The location is great. You can walk to town to enjoy the shops and restaurants. Guests can enjoy a 10 percent discount at The Golden Frog, a bar and grill located in downtown Fountain City. The only minor negatives would be: trains are passing by across the street about every 15 minutes, so if you're a light sleeper or can't stand that noise, you may want to go elsewhere. Also, the water was slow to get warm in the bathroom, and when it did, it didn't get real warm. We appreciated having access to a full kitchen - the ceramic dishes, real silverware, a fridge, etc. Again, the decorating was amazing. I hesitate to speak too glowingly about the place for fear that the next time we want to return, it will be booked.

Trains run alongside the river quite frequently, but didn't wake us up because the doors and windows must be new and well-sealed. The hosts let you come and go as you please, and are welcoming and willing to talk about the area and things to do there. Breakfast was AOK. While you're in the neighborhood, check out the bike trails (the local bike store, Blue Heron, has maps and sells trail passes). Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a good public beach (that we knew of), so we had to trespass to take a dip (oops!). Sullivan's Supper Club is within a mile of the B&B and worth a jaunt for dinner, but the Trempealeau Hotel is within shorter walking distance and is open late.
