Really nice little place! Check in was smooth, and they gave us a free upgrade to a double Queen room! Room was clean, beds were comfortable, and the heating / AC worked super well (which is rare for hotels)! The water pressure was excellent for both the sink and shower! The area and hotel felt very safe, the building was quiet, the staff was friendly, and the continental breakfast was delicious! The mini fridge worked like a charm, and the microwave in the room was a plus! We will definitely be staying here again if we come through the area! No frills motel that we stayed at over Labor Day weekend. Not really on the main drag but not far from it. Very reasonably priced. The rooms were clean, the beds pretty soft, and the staff very friendly. They had continental breakfast but there really wasn't much to it. Some pastries, yogurts & one day was microwave breakfast sandwiches, the other was make your own pancakes. It was better to just run to McDonald's across the street if you wanted a full breakfast. read more

Convenient location for my destination. Very clean room. PRICE was big negative. State track meet first weekend of June 4 & 5. They TRIPLE the price! Normally $79 + tax for one person. Rooms are clean. Bed and pillows are aged and worn out, NOT comfortable. Pillows are postage stamp size. Breakfast is a hundred percent carbs with no proteins. Coffee is bland and disappointing. Won't return. read more

I'm not sure if it is the La Crosse area, but it seems like every hotel is spaced out about 7 miles out from each other (or so it seems when I went to a wedding in La Crosse). This hotel is out behind a gas station, on a bend of road off the highway, it is easy to get to once you know where to go, but also an odd placement in my opinion, with a small parking lot. Through a series of unfortunate events we got the handicapped room (125) which is an oddity in itself, as it has the most peculiar floor plan to it. It being a suite, it contains a hot tub in the bedroom, and then an odd kitchenette. The hotel was very skimpy on things like soap (only 1 given during our whole 3 day stay) and that goes same for shampoo and lotion (didn't use). A trail of ants was discovered adventuring around the hot tub and many dead bugs littered the window sills. *Note: there were no bed bugs (that we knew of) so at least that was good. The continental breakfast was alright, with a selection of coffee (reg / decaf), cereal, bread, waffle (toastable) and english muffin. This small hotel is quaint, clean, affordable and the Owner is a pro. Check-in was a breeze, the price was right, breakfast is included, the room has new carpeting and the other decore is pleasant. The A/C works and the internet is faster than most four star hotels where we have stayed around the globe. It's not the Ritz; but, at about 1/4th that price, it's one of the best values in a hotel I have paid. If you want to pay for an indoor pool and chandeliers, this isn't for you. But, if you want a quiet room on a quiet street with a guy who knows how to run a hotel, stay here. read more

Agree with many other reviews. Every person I encountered at that hotel was friendly, and polite. The hotel is easy to get to. Hotel, decor, and accommodations are aged, and amenities are slim. There was a hair on our pillow, that wasn't ours (gross). I felt the need to search for bed-bugs, thankfully didn't find any. Bathroom was like the one I had in my college dorm (teeny tiny). Almost non-existent, small "outside" lobby area for seating or gathering (usually hotels have a picnic table area or something, not here). Breakfast served was old food; someone in my group took a risk and ate a hard-boiled egg, we were all worried about him (he's fine). What bothered me most about this experience was the cost. This hotel charged more for a 1 night stay (Sat/Sun) than I've spent on the same hotel in a 4-star hotel overlooking the ocean. It is absolutely NOT worth the value I paid. I understand weekend prices will be higher, and that's ok, but $240 for this below-average hotel is quite excessive and unacceptable. Next trip to this area, I will not be booking here and will drive the extra 5 minutes for a higher end hotel. (My entire group felt the same.) read more

All I can say is UGH. We were given rooms on the 2nd floor. When we arrived with all of our suit cases we drug them around the whole hotel looking for the elevator. When I asked the front desk manager where they were, she said, "oh we don't have one." We had to carry all our bags up the stairs. I asked what people did if they were physically unable to take the stair and she said, "We don't have to have an elevator!" We asked if we could get a room one the first floor bc my grandma would be staying with us and cannot take the stairs. She said, "sorry, all rooms are booked for the weekend". However, we seemed to be the first to arrive for the busy weekend considering we were literally the ONLY car in the parking lot! She didn't even try to switch things around or accommodate us. My mother had to go back down to the lobby and demand that she get a room on the first floor to accommodate my elderly grandmother. Which they finally did. When I got settled in my room I noticed I had no soap, no shampoo, no lotion, no hair dryer. All the typical things that you usually take for granted in a hotel. I had to go down to the front desk to ask for it. Also, they did not provide conditioner. :/ I also was not given a Do Not Disturb sign. I went back downstairs to ask for one and the same rude manager said, "We don't have anymore, we are all out." I asked, "how will the cleaning crew know not to go in my room?" and she just simply crossed my room number off of a list and said, "there." This manager was so rude! I found the cleaning crew myself and asked if I could have a sign from one of the unoccupied rooms, which the gladly gave me one. The hotel would have been more acceptable if the manager had been nicer! She was so rude to me and my family. I would never stay here again. read more

My wife and I came back to Holmen to see my Mom who is in assisted living and wanted to stay somewhere quiet. Prairie Inn is a wonderful hidden treasure! The rate is awesome! Very clean rooms, with all the trimmings of your chain hotels but with a personal touch. Just a very pleasant stay. If your going to stay in Onalaska or Holmen, do yourself a favor and give them a try, you will not be disappointed. read more

I came to the area for my wedding and spent 2 weeks at Prairie Inn. What a great experience! All the staff were very friendly and accommodating! The hotel is located right off the freeway within walking distance of McDonald's, subway, and Kwik trip. The rooms were very clean and nice to stay in. Perfect if you want a nice quiet stay or coming for an event. I would highly reccomend choosing Prairie Inn when coming to the La Crosse area! You can't go wrong! read more

NEVER, EVER, STAY at the Prairie Inn in Holmen Wisconsin. I know I never will again. Although clean, it is overpriced and although most of the staff was nice and provided what you would expect for service, it has an AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL RUDE MANAGER. I travel a lot for my employer and over the past 25 years have stayed in literally 100s of hotels. The Prairie Inn is one of the worst ever. I rented their 'suite' which is very overpriced. ...when was the last time you saw a tube TV... and in a suite? and then only one TV but only in the bedroom? really? Come-on PI&S spend a couple hundred bucks and put a flat screen out in the living area and while you're at it put a phone in the living area as well. Don't waste the money for the suite. All you can do in the living area is sit in some uncomfortable chairs. You have to haul your luggage up a significant set of stairs (no elevator) and once in the room the tub walls are very tall. If you have any mobility issues or are a senior citizen it would be difficult to get your luggage up the stairs and for you to get out of the tub since the walls are so high. The room cleaning service has a very small window (only up to 11:00 am) if you leave your room 10 minutes before 11:00 they still won't clean your room. The way you are supposed to find the cleaning times is that there is a hand-written note taped off to the side on the top of the check-in desk. Also, some of the towels were of very poor quality one was frayed and had a hole about 1 1/2 inches in diameter in it. Plus you have to ask for shampoo and soap as none are provided in your room. I guess the above can be overlooked but when checking out, I mentioned the cleaning issue to the manager who immediately reacted in a VERY rude and VERY confrontational manner. I was shocked by her response and attitude. I fully expected her to say "I apologize sir...." but she verbally flew into an attack. Shocked is the only word I can use to describe her response. She wouldn't give me her name. She is THE rudest person I can recall interacting with in a very, very, long time. It takes a lot to rattle my cage but she was so rude she did a good job! The fact she was the Manager is an atrocity. What a horrible experience. Did I mention I was shocked by how rude she was? And for the record I have no affiliation of any kind with any of its competitors or any business in the hospitality industry. read more

Parking lot is awfully small. Rooms don't come with the regular room service as others do. I believe they charge you extra for the room service. It looks nice but it's ok. Maybe I should wait until we check out to actually post a review. Fear not fellow yelpers the shenanigans shall be brought to light. We the people demand the truth! They are cheap about standard things like little shampoo bottles & soap to wash my hands. read more
