Considering it's city centre location Juliet's is crazy cheap. If you need specialist hair products…read moreyou will no doubt find them here. They have a huge range of wigs and extensions that can be bought and woven in on site or to take away. I personally don't go there for the extensions or on site eyebrow threading but I've been in there before a big weekend when the place is packed full of women colour matching. I go to Juliet's for crazy colour hair dye. Apart from on the Soho road you won't find it cheaper. My hairdresser has tried to stock it in her salon and can't get it in as cheap as Juliet's. So if you like your bright colours, fancy a colourful dip dye then this is the place to buy it.

I visited Juliet's recently with an Alopecian friend, to shop for wigs. She was after something for…read morea smaller head, maybe something tailored towards Asian ladies, and I was after a ginger wig for a fancy dress party. I wasn't that impressed with the customer service here and, although they did have quite a few wigs, they had nothing ginger and nothing small. We asked if we could look at the catalogue but the bored looking, male assistant was hesitant to let us. The wig catalogue was in fact a double sided print on A4 and not quite what we were hoping for. We then noticed a sign saying 'Wig Boutique Downstairs' but when we enquired we were told flat out that we couldn't go down there; Not even so much as an excuse. Man, these guys really want to sell wigs! My friend then enquired about the price of a wig in human hair. The assistant pointed to some hair extensions instead of wigs because he wasn't listening to her even though I'm pretty sure we were the only 2 customers in the shop. All in all I'd say if you are after some products for afro hair or a wig which isn't ginger or smaller than average then you might find what you are looking for here. They do have about 50 wigs in store. But if you are a bit shy to ask for help then don't bother coming here as this particular man wasn't the most approachable or helpful.

I popped in to see if they had any ginger wigs, they never do; you'd think people would want to look like Joan Holloway, but no... Anyway, I had a browse around and came across some gorgeous coloured hair dyes by Adore for £2.99. They are similar to Crazy Color (£2.49) but the colours are much more vivid. I'll definitely be popping in there soon to get some of those. As well as hair dyes they sell all the usual stuff, extensions, make-up, oils, moisturisers, hair accessories. Seriously - all these shops are merging into one! The products and prices seem to be the same in each store.

Now, Birmingham has an array of shops which cater for Black women's hair & beauty so it's always good to shop around. This store on Dale End is right in the centre of town. It's not as big, as some of the other hair shops like Beauty Queen etc, which means they don't have as much choice as some of the other larger stores. What they do have though is a pretty decent selection of hair treatment products for saying it's a smaller store. I tend to visit City Hair & Beauty to purchase hair products like; carrot care hair lotion, relaxer and colour kits and oil treatment kits which are great for treating damaged or over-relaxed hair. I find the staff a lot more friendly and less in your face than other shops similar to them. They tend to just ask if you need help and if you say you're OK, they'll let you get on with it. The good thing is they accept all major credit or debit cards and they provide you with a proper receipt; it sounds silly but some hair shops don't provide you with an actual receipt, so it becomes difficult to take anything back

Pickles & Co is a new hair salon based on Kenyon Street in the Jewellery Quarter…read more The salon is large and tastefully decorated, it has a classy feel and is very clean and shiny! The stylists are friendly, helpful and skilled at what they do. I recently attended a vintage themed night there which was brilliant, they had free champagne & cupcakes (winning combo!) plus vintage clothes stalls and stylists doing vintage hair dos and make-up. Plus their latest addition, a nail bar, where you can get all the latest nail treatments and nail art plus normal manicures and painting. It's a classy establishment, so the prices aren't cheap if you want the top stylist, but you can save money by getting your hair done by their capable graduate stylist. Prices vary from £26.50 for a cut & style with a graduate, £32 with a senior stylist or £39.50 with the Style Director. They also specialise in colouring, perms, hair extensions and wedding packages. I heard a mention of a new massage bed on it's way which sounds good! Keep an eye on the website for updates on new treatments. Overall a great salon, excellent customer service and skilled stylists and I particularly enjoyed this vintage event so hope that they'll be doing more of these soon!

I booked an appointment easily by just popping in on my way after work and they were able to fit me in at a time of my choosing. I turned up on the day and was offered a drink while I waited (I was early!) so I enjoyed my latte and read some magazines. After my coffee I was led to one of the chairs and I talked through with my hairdresser Helen about what I wanted. After some discussion, we went ahead. I was treated to a nice head massage while getting my hair cleaned and the chair was a massage chair so it was all very relaxing. I was very pleased with the cut and I was asked how I wanted it blow-dried. This time I went for straight hair but I've had it curled and styled here before and its always been good.
