We had a very painful experience working with Jimmy Fursman, the founder of Mercutio. In 2015, we…read morehired Jimmy and a designer he recommended to launch a new website for our company. In the interview process, we explicitly asked Jimmy and the designer about their knowledge of SEO and both claimed to have solid knowledge of SEO best practices. All told we paid them nearly $50K to launch this new website and then additional fees monthly to maintain it and make periodic updates. Soon after launching the website, sales from SEO fell through the floor. We were told 'oh, this is normal' and 'it'll pop back up soon'. Three months later, it still had not come back to anywhere near the SEO ranking we had before. At this point, we are losing thousands of dollars in revenue every day. Jimmy and his designer would throw their hands in the air and say 'we don't know why this is happening'. After 6 months, we hired an SEO agency to look into the matter. Sure enough, in the design and development of the new website, Mercutio had changed the URL structure of our website. As a result, Google didn't recognize any of the pages and basically, we were starting from scratch in a very competitive market. I've since learned, THIS IS A TOTAL ROOKIE ERROR. You never change the URL structure. It's SEO suicide. Overall, we lost nearly $150K in revenue before we discovered their mistake. When asked why Jimmy and his designer did this, he just threw his hands in the air, blamed it on others and did not take any ownership of the mistake. Not even an apology. We have since moved away from Mercutio. Think twice before hiring this firm. Jimmy has a tendency to over promise and under deliver. We paid dearly for his shoddy work on this project.

We have since abandoned the Magento platform completely and are building a new site on BigCommerce. I can't recommend Mercutio and BC strongly enough. Jimmy, Keith and the team really have a customer first attitude. Even though keeping us on the Magento platform would ultimately yield them more in agency fees it was their idea to migrate us off of Magento (good for large enterprises with a lot of developers on staff) and onto BigCommerce which is much more suitable for a startup of our size. They are more than a web dev agency, they are a trusted partner. Can not recommend highly enough.
