This was our third refinance experience and hopefully our last. I gave 4 stars instead of five for a couple of tiny reasons. 1. If you're someone who can end up taking to someone forever about random things, watch out because Rick Kirchenbaum is, too. We spent way too much time chatting on the phone instead of actually discussing the terms of the offer. If you like the bonding from chit chat, Rick is probably your guy. But I spent 2 hours the first day taking to him about how he used to own a shoe store in Sandy and might have sold shoes to my husband when hubby was in high school. Just... how did that happen?!? 2. There were several issues with getting our documentation of pay stubs and tax forms and loan statements to his office. Mostly file format issues. It was annoying to have to take a picture of something ~again~ and email it ~again~ because it was either too big or too blurry when his office put it in the portal for the underwriters. Might not be an issue now when people can meet in person again, but it was annoying and made things take a week longer than necessary. 3. He wasn't clear about how big the lender fees would be or whether they'd be coming in the form of a check from us or rolled into the loan until we got the final paperwork. I was surprised the fees were bigger on the final paperwork than on the estimate. And I thought we would have to pay that at closing. I didn't back out and go with someone else because at that point I was many hours deep in phone calls and emails and digital portal clicks and sign heres and I honestly just wanted to be done. And then we didn't have to pay anything at actual closing after I'd been worried about it for a week. So nice surprise, but a little more clarity during the process -- especially because I asked about those two things specifically -- would have been appreciated. So yeah. Solid 4 stars. The mobile notary instead of having to drive somewhere in Salt Lake to a title company office was seriously the best thing. Overall I'd use him again if we hadn't paid off literally all our consumer debt in that refi and should never ever need to do a refi again. Ever.
