There are unique and genuine experiences, and maybe they're not your typical thing, or come off as intimidating, maybe even outright terrifying? Well.. as Rick Sanchez put it: "To live is to risk it all. Otherwise, you're just an inert chunk of randomly assembled molecules drifting wherever the universe blows you." So if you're looking at a Yelp review for Tresor, going to a techno club is definitely out of your wheelhouse. Go. Dress in all black. No logos. No watch. No bags. Be minimal. Cover charge was 22 euros. Don't show up until after midnight at minimum. Eat a Doner Kebab a block away before you walk in. They never asked for an ID. They're going to put a sticker over the camera of your phone for their strict "no picture" policy, which is incredibly refreshing because living in the moment is the peak experience. It's a very relaxed scene and all about the music. In fact, you probably won't even be able to understand a single person the entire time there. Also, in the rooms, they keep the decibels under 100 to save your eardrums - I know 100 is a lot, but i bet other clubs keep it significantly louder. The day after, I had no residual ringing in my ears, if that helps. The drinks are really affordable. Shots were 3 euros each. Stay for an hour. Stay all night. Stay the whole weekend. The party goes until Monday, supposedly. It reminded me of raves in the 90s, no phones, and chill music-oriented. I'm happy I went. It was incredibly worth it. read more

Went on a Friday night. Well... legendary for a reason! Tough door, don't go if you don't belong to clubbing. Location is raw as you expect. Music in the basement was phenomenal hard core techno (Kameliia was my favorite) while upstairs at the Oku for Treaor is not my style, but was packed with a younger crowd. I went this past Friday and waited in line for at least an hour. I saw plenty of people being turned away, but it's a popular place with limited capacity. In addition, the vibe inside is amazing so they are doing a great job of getting the right people. Everyone that works there was friendly and made my experience better. If you are not a techno fan, you are not going to like Tresor. Their sound system is phenomenal and you can literally feel the music. In addition, the DJs were killing it and I danced for hours. I ended up staying for 5-6 hours and had a blast. I will definitely try to get in again next time I'm in Berlin. Well, this was definitely a taste of a true German nightclub, and needless to say it was nothing short of awesome. It used to be an old heating plant, which they have converted into a nightclub, and rather successfully at that as well. Honestly, this place was awesome, though I should mention that it does open pretty late, so you do sort of need to keep yourself entertained before then. However, when it does it literally goes off. Great grundgy spot for a fun party if you like techno. Def a spot to go in Berlin. It's hot, it gets crowded, but there are multiple floors and you can walk around fairly easily. Bartenders are nice and the drinks are decently priced. I love the old look and feel to the building. Almost like something out of a horror movie. It was very easy to get in because we had New Years tickets and were there at 1030pm. Most people didn't get there until 230ish. This was a trip back in time. I always wanted to see what an underground techno club would be like and Tresor was just that. I was in Berlin on days where Berghain was closed so I had to find an alternative, Tresor was the next option. I was a little scared having read the reviews given that they turn a lot of people down, especially if you look like a tourist. I followed the instructions to the t - got there at 12:30am, wore all black and kept a chill profile. The line was long and while I was there I saw plenty of people getting rejected - guys and girls alike - but I had no problems going in. Pictures and videos are not allowed and they enforce this rule by covering your camera as soon as you go in. I think this makes the experience 10x better as everyone is in the moment. The space looks like a cool abandoned warehouse and I loved everything about it. Unfortunately since I went on a Monday only the main room was open, I would've loved to check out the basement! The dj was great and drinks were cheap (I think it was about 5 euros for a beer? I don't remember too well). I was by myself all night and still had an awesome time. I never felt neither unsafe nor creeped out by anyone. Time flew by and next thing I knew I came out of the club at almost 6:00am. Tresor had some sort of mystique...or maybe it was just the over-enthusiasm of a few guidebooks that inspired us to visit. If I had to name the top clubs in Berlin from memory, I'd probably be listing Sage (which rocks), Maria am Ostbahnhof, the Matrix(never went to those two, not sure why), and Tresor--though I had forgotten Tresor's name and the fact that I even ever went there until seeing the listing on Yelp. The photos reminded me how much this club looks like a prison basement. For some reason, it was supposed to be good, so a friend and I made the trek out one Friday or Saturday evening. She drank waaaay too much and we left early (like 1 am), and I'm sure our exit wasn't completely uninfluenced by the pulsating techno music that left me with a headache for the next full day. I remember puking in the bathroom being involved, too. I also had to wait over 15 minutes for a train out of there, which didn't help matters. Sorry, Tresor, I'm just not that into you. read more

Best haunted house in the Berlin area!!! Really quite spooky..as soon as you go down the dark hallway with flickering lights you know you're in for some thrills. They actually have an actor performing as a DJ, trapped inside of a cage like a prisoner!! Very scary, and the music that plays is extremely unnerving. As you walk through the dark crypt-like area countless ghouls and gremlins pop out at you, giving a fright. I was on the edge of my seat the whole night. There is a lot of fog and darkness and even a creepy cave living room in one corner. Some serious monsters in there. VERY spooky. And the bathrooms...well...I don't even want to talk about it. Just see for yourself. Not for the faint of heart, but if you are into serious scares this is a must-see attraction!!! read more

OG, awesome Berlin techno club - once the strobes hit and we were dancing it really felt like a rave scene in some 90's movie, but who cares - the line wasn't Berghain status, the second room was more than adequate, and although there were a few too many amped, shirtless dudes jumping up and down, the music totally warranted that kind of behavior. Couldn't tell you much about techno - I'm more an indie girl - but I really loved this club. Set in one of Berlin's many factories, this unassuming building looks pretty ordinary by day, and by night it's buzzing. Chilled out, dark, loud and winding like most of Berlin's nightclubs, it delivers banging tunes. If you're into the technical side of music you'll appreciate the clear sound systems, the rumbling bass and the constant thud of the music as it pounds through your body. Like a lot of Berlin's clubs, you can feel the music vibrate through you. Dancers go into their own wee world in here, and my pal who loves her techno was a big fan. The music was a mix of drum and bass, fast house music and some old techno, all of which were accompanied by the most incredible strobe display I've ever seen. The lasers literally engulf and consume your body. I wasn't even drunk and the light show displays made me feel like I was tripping. It was absolutely tremendous. Although Berghain and Watergate are probably the undisputed kings of Berlin's clubbing scene, Tresor is up there with a great reputation, and still gives the new kids on the block a run for their money. A throwback rave and great for a night out. Don't let sleazy guys ruin your night, ladies - to be honest, you'll get that in any club across the world, so don't let it put you off!! read more

Definitely one of the best clubs in Berlin if your into the whole techno scene. The first floor is very dark and grungy (Pretty typical of Berlin), and the second floor is more upbeat and light. The lines to queue in aren't as long as Berghain's but you still probably will have to wait a while. The drinks also aren't to outrageously expensive. I`m a fan of trashier places in general but not so big fan of techno/house, that`s why i`m giving 4 stars. The place itself is awesome and has this Berlin spirit, its quite big and laid back, with a casual feel and nobody will look at you as if you don`t belong. Although i`m not the biggest fan of that music, i liked it there because you can chill there and just enjoy the atmosphere. Oh how fun. Another club trying to promote exclusivity. We were told to check this club out by an Englishman that lived in Berlin. So we decided to check it out. I went to this club with my two sisters. We were dressed nicer, but nothing too formal. This woman with a shaved head was turning people around for the following reasons: open toed shoes, first time attendees, not knowing the DJ playing that night, or not knowing German. Us and about a dozen people in front and behind us were told we couldn't be let in. The other people turned away were Canadians, Irish, English, and other Americans. We didn't waste our time arguing and went to Watergate and had an absolute blast. However, the experience here really left a sour note for such a welcoming city. read more

My first time at Tresor was the old Tresor, when I was 20 and met a turkish transvestite named See who tried to feed me drungs and dragged me into the safe room where I immediatelly had a panic attack and retreated to the beer garden. The new Tresor doesn's seem as fun or exciting as the old one, but when I did visit opening weekend it seemed to have a lot of promise. I was especially impressed with the lighting system (I'm kind of a club dork) and the layout has a definite warehouse feel. Plenty of crevices and crannies to get yourself into trouble. read more

I came too late to Berlin to experience the original Tresor club ('safe' in german, it was in a bank vault apparently) but have been to its new home, beneath the Vattenfall power station, a few times. If you like classic techno, and an industrial setting for your clubbing, this is it - the music pounds at you first as you make your way down a concrete corridor or up a heavy duty steel staircase, think the set for Alien3 I agree though with earlybird97 - the venue is really big, especially the upper room, and hasn't been packed full when I've been (incl dave Clarke and Jeff Mills), so I guess is not what it once was. I think Berghain has maybe taken Tresor's crown as the Berlin club. read more

For those outside of the techno intelligentsia, this is the second incarnation of the legendary techno club and record label, generally regarded as the home of modern day techno. The first location in an old bunker, according to my Berlin friends was apparently a squat type arrangement quite common in Berlin. And when the owners eventually wanted their place back, they were forced to move. In the old location, you used to have to peer through cobwebs to get down dark tunnels to find some dark dancefloor, and the new one does a pretty good job of evoking that kind of atmosphere. There were 2 dancefloors the night we were there - one main room playing funky techno and techno classics, and the other sweatier room playing a more banging sound for the purists. The quality of the music was extremely high, but unfortunately it's a big place and on this particular evening they were struggling to fill it, so it lacked a certain atmosphere. And, as with techno parties, the male to female ratio is dire. Still, there's nothing like techno to bring out the male bonding urge :-). I can imagine that in the days of yore, Tresor would have been the holy grail, but now the sounds are a little bit dated and I can't help but feel that it has seen better days. read more

If you like your Techno & especially Techno of the more bangin sort, then this place is quite possibly for you. The building it is located in is a power station/ factory or something. Its fairly cheap to get in and drinks are a decent price. 3 euro for a beer. The top room is definitely your more laid back sort of thing, but if you venture downstairs and look for the tunnel....yes tunnel and follow the musty smell and vibrations, your on your way to the REAL Tresor. With steal bars surrounding you to represent a bank vault (hence the name Tresor (vault in german)) a very low ceiling and very few lights other than strobes, you can get lost in some pretty hard Techno. This room is normally filled with the sounds of Dj's such as joey Beltram and can be pretty intense. This is not a place for people who do not really understand techno, or have not been to this sort of club before. Great club, even in it's third incarnation. Only gripe is it does not seem to get very busy anymore which is a shame, but still worth a visit or 3 read more

The woman, a bunch of random German boys we met on the U-Bahn, and I wound up here, leading to what would be my 3rd greatest club experience ever. Reasonable-ish drink (3-4 euro) prices. Best of all, you can just go down the street for booze and/or donairs as you please (ahhhh Europe). Techno. Nothing but. Incredible house music until sunrise...something I'll never get to experience in Canaduh. Wow. Two stars from 7 reviews. Really? I mean, I know that the original location (that I never experienced) that had a garden is gone, and I could imagine the basement of a powerplant is pretty lame in comparison. But honestly, when night clubs in your home country are either brick boxes that have no history or exist on the main floors of office towers, you get pretty blown away by an interior of a nightclub that has myriads of nooks and crannies, and adapts to its space instead of the other way around. Other reviews seem to bitch about the clientele; we found them to be very chill and awesome to be around. But again, when you compare clubbers of any city to those in Calgary... If there was this amazing night club with a garden that was sold off to investors, I'd be pretty jaded too; the same way I'm jaded with Canada's homogeneous nightlife. If you love techno and hate the atmosphere of the Oakenfold mega-club, let alone the top-40-mashup "genre" that defines the music within nightclubs in redneck cities, you will looooove it here. read more

I was turned down at the gate after waiting in line for about 45 min. Seems like they have a profile that you have to fit to get in. The girl at the front who filters people in and out asked us what we expected as far as the club goes and didn't like my answer. A great berghain alternative with just as much history regardless of location change. It's dark and vast as expected and as it should be but the dance floor is cosy. There were two rooms one up the stairs and one in the basement accessible via a long tunnel. Land there and your in a strobe wonderland with epic techno. The crowd is varied, both older and younger congregate here. The bar staff were quick and efficient. While we didn't stay long I'd love to come back and make a proper night of it. read more

Tresor is an institution. The main room downstairs has low ceilings, cages everywhere, and massive strobe lights set right at eye level. It's actually the most disorienting club I've ever walked into, and it's easy to find yourself bumping into walls, railings, stairs, etc. Worth the price of entry for that alone. The sound is massive as well, and the lack of vertical dispersion makes you really feel like you're getting smacked in the face. Oh, and to get into this main room, you'll walk through a windowless 30-meter concrete tunnel that smells like 1991. There will be more hooligans and teenagers than other clubs. If you like techno this is the club for you. The downstairs bunker is a haven for hard techno ravers and heavy beats. Atmosphere was on point throughout the whole Venue. Would recommend not going in a large group, we went as a couple and had seen revues saying it was hard to get in however after queuing for 40 minutes we were straight in no problems. Maybe I just chose the wrong night, but I went here at thursday 1AM. I was wishing it had some modicum of local vibe, but nooooooo - more than half of the club was infested with a single group of american exchange students from the same program. It was basically a huge house party that no one except the exchange students was invited to. Second floor like a boiler room had nice house/lounge beats, but the first floor(underground) was just shitty. 11/10 would recommend for groups over 80 people to go for a house party. read more

This place was awesome! They have two dance floors: one downstairs that involved intense techno and one upstairs with a more relaxed vibe. Techno isn't really my thing, but it was cool to get a glimpse into the Berlin nightlife at a big club. The drinks are reasonably priced and there are areas to chat. This is one of the best clubs in Berlin (arguably better and much less pretentious than Berghain) and does a great job of showcasing what no-frills underground raving was like in the 80s and 90s (almost). The people running this place know their stuff. They are also pretty friendly to talk to. The door policy isn't that strict but will not let in people who are the typical National Lampoon alumni type or large groups talking loudly; don't talk much in the queue and you will usually get in. I was let inside all but once out of numerous occasions which I expect was due to the fact that I arrived pretty late. Globus plays good house, Aurora bar on the ground floor is a mix of house and electro, and the Tresor basement is for serious rave heads that is a smokey dungeon of brutal hardcore/schranz from the depths of hades. The crowd is usually a mix of both tourists from other parts of Germany, foreign tourists, and locals. Can be a young mix but everyone is pretty mature. read more
