There are also plenty of children's play equipment such as slides and climbing frames. This park is County Council maintained so is kept to a high standard. There are around 10 hard tennis courts which you can rent for an hour a time in the summer. However these courts can be quite expensive and are often in use around May time. There are toilets in the park which are generally clean and to a decent standard.

In Spring there is a riot of colour from the daffodils, camellias, primroses, bluebells and cherry blossom. A bit later come the foxgloves and later still the changing colours of autumn - but there is a 'wildness' about it all, with wild flowers mingling with the cultivated, making the garden an absolute delight at any time of year. And, always, there is the sound of bird song and the distant clanking of the King Harry Ferry, which crosses the Fal from Feock to Philleigh. Of course, a visit to the garden is never complete without a visit to the superb tea room, shop and gallery. The garden is open throughout the year, although not every day in winter - so best to check the website before you visit. The house is privately owned and not open to the public but, if time allows, it is possible to walk through the parkland of Trelissick Estate, which again stretches right down to the shores of the River Fal. There is ample space for parking but, if you prefer, in summer, plan to arrive and depart by ferry via Falmouth, St Mawes or Truro.

Luckily, many were labelled as my botanical knowledge is not great. Despite the poor weather, it was a really relaxing experience meandering through the tranquil gardens. There are fantastic views across to Falmouth and the sea. The restaurant is nice, although a bit pricey (the money does contribute towards the upkeep of the National Trust properties though). There is also a shop which sells the usual National Trust goodies, some local produce, and plants that were seen in the gardens. Well worth a visit.

This tarmac expanse is often used for military parades, concerts and funfairs. Notable landmarks are the War Memorials, Sir Francis Drake statute and Smeaton's Tower Lighthouse, which is open to the public, and has it's own twitter account @smeatonstower

After this, we enjoyed the gardens upper/lower. Well laid out. The car park is approx 15-20 minute walk, mostly downhill, which means you've got an uphill struggle to get back. There is a "mini" taxi type service costing £1 per head each way, (well worth it), to the House. Car park charge to non-members is £3.00 all day, which is pretty good. The house is in good repair, and the history is very well recorded. Beware the Cafe.......as with most NT establishments it is franchised, extortionate and not good value for money....especially for eating and drinking in a shed...!! That aside, you will have a lovely day...

On one side of…read morethe road there is the childrens part which has climbing frames and slides, while on the other side there is a football pitch and small skate park. Both parts are maintained by the County Council and there are also toilets on the childrens side. However these toilets are not great. There are fences stopping children from running onto the road on the children's side. In the day there are usually quite a few children and parents in Hendra park but it is rarely very busy. In the summer the County Council sometimes put on entertainment such as 'Punch and Judy' shows so keep your eyes peeled for these.

Very quiet when we've visited with only a handful of visitors. Surprising. Because even though not the biggest, it is a very interesting and beautiful castle. The big 13th-century round tower was built by Richard, Earl of Cornwall. You can climb up to the top to enjoy the views of the beautiful valley. The castle also served as prison and was also used as the base for the Cornish Royalist defence of the county. A very pleasant visit. Nice history, great surroundings. A small souvenir shop at the entrance as well. We enjoyed it. We parked our car at the nearby Westgate Street Multi-Storey Car Park and Coach Park. Only a few steps away.

This is a is a Norman motte and bailey earthwork castle on a high mound overlooking the town. It…read morewas once the administrative headquarters for the Earls of Cornwall who owned many estates throughout the region. It is thought that a castle was on this spot as early as 1067. In the 12th century a stone keep was constructed and then in the 13th century Richard of Cornwall held the earldom and made many alterations to the castle. After his death his son moved the administration to Lostwithiel which resulted in the castle's gradual decline in importance. It later became a prison for a time. Worth a visit if you are in the area, especially to see the views from the top. There is a nearby castle shop as well for souvenirs.

A true Gem of a place. My family come here a lot. My sister also got married at Carbis Bay and then afterwards came here for some amazing wedding shots. Here is more info about it - Godrevy is at the far north-eastern end of three miles of golden sand stretching from Hayle. Owned by the National Trust, it takes the brunt of the Atlantic swell and is one of the more exposed beaches of the North coast. From buckets and spades on sunny summer days to classic rugged Cornish splendour on a stormy winter's day, Godrevy offers the ultimate outdoor experience. The sandy beach at Godrevy is connected to Gwithian beach at lower tides to create an impressive stretch of sand. Remember to check the time of high water. as hundreds of metres of sand all but disappear at high tide so don't get caught out. The beach terminates with a low rocky headland and the famous Godrevy lighthouse (of Virginia Woolfe's To The Lighthouse fame) on an island just off the coast. Godrevy Cafe, hidden amongst the dunes, provides drinks and snacks.. Given the right conditions the waves can be epic - long walling lefts and rights. It is also capable of holding a fair sized swell, up 8ft. However this doesn't mean you'll have an easy paddle out! The break is at it's best on a low tide where it can produce a fast hollow wave. It does work through the tide but becomes increasingly slopey and bouncy.

This has to be one of my favourite places to go in Cornwall and holds a special place in my heart…read more If you're visiting the area by car, you turn off the B3301 just outside Gwithian, drive up a gravel track which becomes a narrow tarmac road to a lower car park. If you have a National Trust card, you can continue up to the top car park (and out of season there are no restrictions). And if you're on foot, it's on the coastal path. When the tide's out, you can walk along the beach from Hayle or Gwithian Towans. Gwithian Sands is a fantastic beach, popular with surfers. Walk towards the lighthouse. There are various ways up from the beach to the top of the cliffs and you get fantastic views from up there. Look across the bay to St Ives, which always seems bathed in sunlight and across to Godrevy Lighthouse, which inspired Virginia Woolf to write 'To the Lighthouse' on her holidays in St Ives. It can be very windy up there, being so exposed, so take a windbreaker or coat, depending on the weather. If you're lucky, you may spot a seal in the waves.

Located on the west side of the Lizard and probably the most photographed and painted location in Cornwall, the contrast between the cove's white sand beach and the dark red and green serpentine rock produces a breathtaking sight. There's a steep 15 minute walk down to the cove from the car park at the top of the cliff. At low tide you can explore the towering rocks stacks and the caves with names such as The Parlour and The Drawing Room. Located just above the beach is an eco-friendly café selling Cornish pasties, fresh sandwiches, baguettes, homemade cakes and cream teas along with beach goods. From Kynance there is a fantastic 2 mile scenic walk around the coast to Lizard Point, mainland UK's most southerly point. Kynance Cove is owned and looked after by the National Trust and is able to care and conserve areas like this thanks to their members, volunteers and donors.

Firstly there is a car park on top of the cliff that is NT & costs £4.50 if you are not a member. It's a short but steep walk down to the cove, an alternative is available which is longer & is the service track to the cafe. Once down to the beach there is a boulder field to negotiate before you reach the sand which can be absent when the tide is in so the cove is very tide dependant. However when it's out it's a fab place to spend the day, 2 small bays separated by a sand ridge punctuated by large rocks. There are a couple of sea caves to explore. Very popular so get there early to bag your spot when the tide goes out. worth a visit if on the lizard & tides are on your side.
