WOW WOW WOW. There are not enough ways to express how awesome this entire trip was. Audrey (the guide who's raft I stayed on), Dustin (the Team Leader), Mcclure, and Roman will forever get my praise for how they exceeded my expectations. This was my first time going both whitewater rafting and camping, and the entire time I felt taken care of, safe, and catered to in ways I hadn't even expected. I don't know how many times I shouted "Team Audrey!" as she expertly navigated difficult rapids. Roman was the guide responsible for riding ahead of us with all our cargo and setting up camp, and every time I was more and more impressed with the breathtaking set up he did with all of our tents, eating areas, and shaded spots. Dustin was a worthy team leader who made sure our trip went smoothly and on time, and was awesome to talk to and joke around with. And McClure was a thorough teacher and guide who is clearly passionate about what he does! I've noticed some reviews of people complaining about things out of Tributary's control like the bathroom quality or the heat or the other parties that would camp nearby. And even though that is technically not Tributary's juriscdiction, I still felt as if the four guides with us did everything they could to anticipate these problems and lessen their impact on our trip. Like they had a handwashing station for us, and had plenty of shaded areas for us to rest in. Not to mention they really took care of the quality of food we ate, giving gluten free and healthy options as well as snacks and drinks for us. Audrey, Dustin, Roman, and Mcclure. I will definitely be seeking out other rafting companies next summer as our tour with Tributary down the Truckee River was unsatisfactory. From the get go, the guides were not friendly and lacked proper introductions. It was literally before boarding the raft that I had to ask what our guides name was. They weren't very welcoming of questions and it was like pulling teeth to obtain information that we needed to feel comfortable with our trip. Along with the lack of professionalism, it seemed like going over safety training with us was not very thorough. Even the equipment seemed to be neglected and not properly evaluated before use. My mothers helmet was broken and couldn't even buckle. On a positive note, Joe our tour guide was very nice and qualified to take us down the river. He remained calm and collected as we navigated in challenging parts of the river. I felt like I could trust him with leading us down the river. The other tour guide was quite the contrary. She was highly emotional and really created an environment within the raft that made my family feel unease and not confident with her abilities. She may love to river raft but I don't think she's unqualified to be a guide and is more a liability to a rafting company. With all that said, I think the company needs to polish up on basic customer service skills. In addition, they need to screen better for properly trained tour guides. There are better rafting companies out there that I will be using instead of this one. read more

I do have good things to say about Tributary Whitewater Tours, but a negative I wanted to highlight is that at the end of our rafting ride where we board buses back to the main Tributary site, there was was a one-person men's bathroom and the only thing in it was a toilet. There was nowhere to wash one's hands with soap and water and then to dry them. This is disgusting and a health hazard. Hundreds of people get dropped at the location we did before boarding buses taking them back to the main site, and it is a problem that so many can't wash their hands properly. We don't live in a third-world country. The expectation is that after paying a fair amount of money for the rafting, we can use a hygienic bathroom. read more

Tributary Waters Rafting Review We recently booked an adventure with Tributary Waters, which included one night of "glam camp" followed by a full day navigating Class 3 rapids. While the rafting itself was enjoyable, the overall experience left much to be desired. Firstly, our camping experience was marred by neighbors who partied until 3 AM. Disturbingly, we heard them use racial slurs, which was particularly unsettling for us as an Indian family with teenagers. We chose not to confront them to avoid conflict, plus it was clear the campers had been drinking, but it was a deeply uncomfortable situation. The amenities at the camp were sparse. Small items such as bottled water were hard to come by (only water was in a cooler or faucet ) and there was no coffee or other basic provisions typically offered at camping sites (for cost), despite the price we paid. The rafting day started poorly as we didn't depart until 9:00 AM, over an hour late, because some participants were running behind schedule. Our guide AJ, claimed to have three years of experience, lacked the personality and professionalism one would expect. He made off-color jokes and was generally not engaging. Lunch was another disappointment. By the time we got to the station to eat lunch, we had already experienced significant discomfort from the heat and lack of proper organization. Additionally, we had to wait almost 45 mins for preparation after the four hours of rafting. Given the extreme heat (115 degrees), this added to our discomfort. We also noticed that other groups with different guides seemed to have a much more engaging and fun experience. We wish we had the same, as it might have significantly improved our overall impression. We did have a somewhat sleepless night, but having an engaging guide might have really helped. Other rafting companies we've experienced usually provide small snacks and bottled water throughout the trips and have lunch ready by the time the rafters are done with half-day or full-day trips. This level of service was notably absent. While the rafting itself was enjoyable, the lack of consideration for campers' needs, poor management, and the unprofessionalism of our guide were significant drawbacks. But we did tip our guide because he did guide us through the harder rapids. It was our decision to go on such a hot weekend, but the experience could have been improved with better organization and provisions. We hope Tributary Waters can address these issues to improve the experience for future guests. read more

We went on the overnight wilderness adventure on the South American river. Our guide was Erin along with Sona, Joe and Nick. Our 8 pack included 4 adults and 4 kids aged 7-10. We had an absolute blast and wished it was longer than 2 days. Erin was born to be a river guide and she made the trip fantastic. The whole crew were super friendly and worked super hard while we enjoyed the experience. I told our kids that we will never go to Disneyland again and do an annual river trip. Price point for the adventure was reasonable and we learned how to navigate the river and the kids rated it a 10 out of 10. We can't wait to experience the next trip at a different location. read more

This was our fourth rafting trip with Tributary, and up until now we had always felt confident and safe with the company. Unfortunately, our recent experience on the Middle Fork of the American River was very different and extremely unsettling. Right from the start, we noticed that the safety briefing from this particular crew felt less thorough than on our previous three trips. Still given our experience, we trusted that we were in good hands. Our raft flipped at the entrance of the Tunnel Chute which is famous for being quite challenging. We understand and accept the inherent risks of whitewater rafting and this is why we sign waivers. What made this experience unacceptable was not the flip itself, but how the crew responded afterward. My husband sustained a serious injury to his leg and ankle, another member of our group had a deep cut in his leg, and I personally came dangerously close to drowning. This was the most terrifying moment of my life. Yet the crew's response was shockingly dismissive. No one noticed my husband was bleeding until we pointed it out and asked for the first aid kit to clean his bleeding leg. When my husband told one of the guides - named Sergio- that his leg was in pain, the response was: "That's not possible, there are no rocks under there." As of today we are still wondering if Sergio was trying to be funny, or if he really believed what he was saying... Dismissing someone's visible injury without even checking is beyond unprofessional. As for me, I was clearly in shock. Only our guide asked if I was okay. Sergio dismissed it and the other two guides didn't check in with me at all. I did not see any group-wide check to assess how we were doing physically or emotionally after this traumatic incident. The three of us who were injured and shaken up decided to end our day early. As for my husband and I, the reason why we decided to end the day was not just because of the injuries and fear, but because we were disturbed by the crew's lack of empathy and their inability to take the situation seriously. After being taken back to our car, we went straight to urgent care to address the physical injuries. The mental trauma from that day will never fully go away. To this day, no one from Tributary has followed up with us since the incident. Not an email, not a phone call. After such a serious event involving injuries and near-drowning, some form of outreach or concern from the company should be expected. The silence speaks volumes. We returned to Tributary because of three previously positive experiences. But after this incident, and the company's failure to respond to it with basic care or professionalism, I cannot recommend rafting with them again. read more

Absolutely love this place! Our guide started out as a customer and ended up working there and she was phenomenal. We did a low level lower middle fork with my wife and in-laws. By the end we the kids up front crash through the waves! Even the driver was friendly and chill, he was filling in for the regular driver and killed it. We left on time and got back to the pub with time for some cold ones, my wife and I want to do a whole day next summer! read more

Looooooong overdue review! I've been out with Tributary multiple times. Easy half day, more technical full day and most recently a four day trip through Hells Canyon on the Snake River. I think it's safe for me to say that Tributary Whitewater is the bees knees! Starting with Jessica in reservations, to Jeremiah the owner who I've had the pleasure of chatting with a few times, right down to the amazing guides Chris, Megan, Joe, Matt, Noah, Nate, & Gregor just to name a few, these guys are truly top notch. The day trips are fun and exciting and I've always felt safe and supported but this multi day trip was next level luxury. Relaxing and fun days on the water, fresh lunch prepped riverside each day, guided hikes to ancient petroglyphs and old homesteads, showing up to camp already set up, tents pitched, and a gourmet meal being put together by chef Megan. What more could you ask for? Lemme tell you. When we had a sudden shift in temperature, guide and boss man Chris pulled out quite literally every piece of clothing he had with him to keep us warm. Sweet Joesph ushered us up some slippery volcanic rock for some fun rock jumping and when I was too much of a weenie to jump alone he held my hand and jumped with me. Matt spent an entire night going over pointers for all the things I still want to learn and different online resources he used when he was in training and even a volunteer program he knew of where I could get some more river hours in. And when I got some gnar blisties, Chef Megan didn't just grab the regular first aid kit, she went and grabbed a special honey salve that her brother gave her from her own personal gear. Special little touches that show that they didn't just care about getting us from Point A to Point B in one piece, but making sure we enjoyed the ride along the way. These guys are also great land stewards and all major LNT principals were followed perfectly, which is not as common as you'd think in river guiding. In chatting with Chris about training guidelines, it's clear they cultivate a company culture of not just enjoying the land and rivers they work on, but respecting and caring for them, too, which is super cool. 10/10 have and would recommend to a friend and if Tributary is on a river that I want to run there is no reason I would go with anyone else. read more

If you are looking for an adventure and willing to take on a new challenge with an element of risk, Tributary Tours might be for you! The company provided an excellent experience, white water rafting down parts of the American River. What made Tributary really stand out are the people who worked there. Matt is possibly the best whitewater rafting tour guide ever! Ask for Matt! Highly experienced, informative, and yet keeping everything very casual and fun!! It made a world of a difference having Matt as our guide. He went out of his way to make it fun each step of the way. I felt safe with him guiding us. And his cooking was equally epic! Megan was another employee who I cannot praise enough! Truly caring and helpful! Very thorough safety instructions and always checking in to make sure our needs were being met. Also, going the extra mile to help us out with our check in process. Tributary is really lucky to have her! I would definitely ask for Matt or Megan if you need a guide! The facilities were adequate. The on-site permanent tents were simple yet in decent shape. The ping pong table allowed for some fun while waiting for meals. Three (of the five) showers were always functional with plenty of hot water. The bathrooms were adequate and I noticed they must have been cleaned at least once during our stay. The meals were better than expected, especially the dinner! Appreciated the vegetarian options for those who needed them. Areas for consideration: - informational email sent before arrival was helpful but I think really encouraging water sandals would have been beneficial. The sandals at the shop on site did not cinch down well. - lots of poison oak, including near the tents. Fortunately cleared from the most critical locations. - some kind of water fountain (maybe with an extra filter) would be nice, instead of filling our water bottles from a hose which has intense pressure. We went for level 3 and unfortunately we didn't have a great experience. It could have been an one off day, my basis for comparison is doing the exact same path previous year with a different tour operator. We were a party of 5. The biggest issue was our guide seemed to lose control of the raft a bunch of times through the trip. I understand it can happen during the moderate rapids, but we had an accident on very calm waters (basically on the section that was smooth with slow flowing water). The boat banged against a rock in pretty calm waters causing it to lean on one side, throwing me and another person from my party sitting on the side of impact to fall over into water. I have a quad muscle tear from the fall. Other issue was how they clubbed parties on the boat. We (party of 5) were clubbed with another party of 3 on the same boat and the guide. Our previous experience was we got entire boat to ourselves for a party of 5, so this did seem crowded. That is fine, as anyway the boat is not supposed to be comfortable and meant to carry 8. However, the party of 3 took both the front seats. The front seats are the most exciting, most comfortable and where you encounter most of the fun water splashes. Given that we had 5 people party, we should have been given at least one of the front seats. We had both the last row seats to our party and to be honest they are the most uncomfortable if you are well build and tall since the paddle from the guide who sits on the back would keep tapping you a bunch of times (not their fault) and also they have some fitting for the guide to sit causing not enough space on the last row to sit. My complaint is not with comfort as you can't change the boat structure, but with the party of 3 taking all best seats on the boat. Combining these things (accident, overcrowding and not having any front row) definitely resulted in a poorer experience than what we had previous year. read more

We rafting w/tributary! Amazing So we had a near death experience on "trouble maker" area. Boat flipped and it was a beautiful mess but we can't control Mother Nature! This was fabulous! We went for a friends bday and the you test in the group were 11. Our guide, Jessica, was beyond likeable. We loved her! We parked and then they loaded us on a van and took us to our drop off location (about a 20 min drive). You end up where your car was parked! Helmets and life jackets are provided and a must. It's. 3-4 hour trip (we did half day) so pack some snaps, dry bag, water and plenty of sunscreen! I recommend tracking a water bag for your cell to capture the beautiful trip. We did a level 3. Safety is thoroughly explained before and during the trip. Very guided. At the trouble maker area they have someone that is taking photos and you can access them after 6pm of your trip. We loved that your are able to get off and swim. When you arrive there is a little store w water items you might need and shirts, etc. It was over 110 today and we did the morning rafting trip. Very easy to book and you get 50% off for the rest of the season! They have a covered area with benches and tables for you to eat after (they don't sell food). We took two ice chests and left them in the car and ate real good after lol There are also showers available and dressing rooms along with restrooms (real ones not a porta potty) Have your camera ready. It's beautiful! You're able to discover so many swim areas while along your trip. I think it's over 10miles of rafting. We are very excited to Come back, again and again and again! We just completed an amazing day on the Middle Fork of the American River. Our guide was Victor (Vito) and he was fantastic! He was extremely knowledgeable of the river and technically proficient as a guide. He was a former member of the Chiliean Rafting team and you could tell. The way he manipulated the boat on the river to maximIze fun while making sure everyone felt safe was impressive. Before each rapid he would carefully tell our family what was going to happen in a very calm way which was always reassuring as he preached patience and being calm throughout the runs. On the Tunnel Chute run he went through plans A-F which made us feel even better about what was about to happen. A was the best option and we crushed plan A! At the falls, what was really impressive was Tributary White water guides were the only ones that we saw raft the Class V rapid while other companies sent their boats unmanned and caught them at the bottom. This spoke volumes on the higher level of skill Tributary Whitewter has over other rafting companies. There was one time a person slid out of another boat during some rapids and it was amazing to watch the guide stand up, ninja jump to the other end of the boat, grab the swimmer with one hand, yank him out of the water, grab the oar floating away and then spin the boat back around. We had such a great time rafting with Tributary. We had to reschedule our trip as a group of 9 last minute and they were super accommodating. Everything was planned out for us without being constricting and it made everything run smooth. CHIN & ROMAN: major shout out here - you are both amazing -truly. If you're of a nervous disposition or have had a previous, freak almost-drowning accident white water rafting (like myself), do not let that keep you from this company & experience (my most loving family shamed me into doing this, actually). The guides are excellent, specifically, for my group and me, Roman and Chin. The majority of the Truckee River run is docile; it's the very last bit that's intense; as you're going down the first, long bit of the river, they are teaching in a convivial and laid-back manner. Our group made it through the very roughest part swimmingly (see what I did there?), and then we hit a rough patch, and three of us were thrown. OF COURSE, I was one of the "swimmers." Here's the thing, though; because of the quality of the guides, level of experience and their team working, I had no time to panic. I came up from the water, did what they instructed us to do in case of that exact scenario, and was out of the water within seconds. I know nothing of other companies, but you will be in the best hands with this group. I began this with reluctant quasi-dread, and left exhilarated. There aren't enough words to describe our amazing 3-day rafting/wilderness camping trip (lower Klamath). It truly was a trip of a lifetime for our family of 4 with 2 boys (8 and 11). My oldest couldn't come up with a favorite part of the trip - he said "everything" was his favorite. We asked him if he would do another trip like this and he said "Yes! But can we get Anna and Ryan as our guides again?". -They were not only knowledgeable and safety-focused, they were also just easy to be around. You are essentially on a family vacation with strangers and a guide must have a special personality to make that work. Our youngest peppered them, mostly Anna, with questions frequently. He would say "I've got a question" and she would always reply "I've got an answer". I'm sure this got a little old but she didn't let it show. The rafting was super fun but that hike on day 2 tho. It was adventurous, technical and a few dicey parts where we were legit nervous. However, we were so glad we made it to the end as the split waterfall was the ultimate payoff. Everything about this trip was well-planned and well-provisioned. We ate like kings and queens and didn't want for anything. If you are considering booking a tour, do it! Campsites have ample space with easy to access water and trash facilities to keep the area clean. Was here with a group of 11 on a Boy Scout outing, their guides were great very friendly and knowledgeable. This is the second time I've traveled with this company and they never cease to satisfy. Amazing experience. Not cheap by any stretch but every part of this trip was first class. We didn't want to haul our camping gear on a plane so we rented everything directly from Tributary. The camping gear (tent, sleeping bag, etc.) was perfectly fine for our needs. Obviously, it will cost you extra to rent your gear but for us, it was well worth it. The two rafting guides were very friendly and experienced. We had full confidence in them and they always came through for us. By the way, you will never, ever, EVER go hungry on this trip. You get fed breakfast, lunch and dinner and the food is terrific and you get a ton of it. A ton. I mean, you're here to go rafting but the excellent food--all cooked hot and fresh by your guides--is a huge bonus. You're going to get wet and will probably get a few (million) bug bites. I didn't see a single bug the entire time and stupidly didn't use any bug spray. So, don't be stupid like me and please use bug spray. You're also going to use muscles you probably never knew you had. But it's all good. Sadly, I've got no photos to post (at this time). I didn't carry the phone on the raft (for obvious reasons--that sucker would have been drowned and/or lost quickly) and its battery died anyway soon after I arrived. There are third party companies which take pictures of the rafters and I did buy one of those after the trip. I might post that one, if I can find it. I wouldn't hesitate to go rafting with them again. The entire experience was terrific. read more

"Worth the Read" This company, in particular, Jeremiah has provided the most amazing customer service to our family. Seven, maybe eight years ago I purchased a family rafting trip for my 3 daughters and the significant others. That following summer, life happened - early fire season (family of Forest Service Firefighters) - in the years that followed, relationships changed, babies were born - I think you get it. Then of course Covid changed everything for a couple of years. Needless to say, we were not able to schedule our family trip. I contacted Jeremiah last month - explained all our family woes... enquired to see if there was history of the certificate purchase and if there was any way the company would honor our original purchase. Jeremiah said he would look into it and get back to me in a couple of days. To compound the issue, 7 years ago Tributary did not have a computer system to just look this up. Well, as promised, Jeremiah called me back in a couple of days. While they could not find any record of the transaction, they were very willing to credit us the amount for a new family trip. I was so grateful! We now have a family trip booked for June 2023! We have a few more family members to add now... 5 grandkids will joining us on the amazing Wilderness rafting trip on the South Fork of the American! Even though I had done white water rafting with Tributary back in 2009... I had to write this review.. it was our first time rafting and our guide was "Scott the Great".. It was one of the best adventures we had... We rafted the South American River.. We were a gang of 6 guys.. so we had the whole raft to ourselves with Scott... Due to that Scott did a lot of great tricks on us.. Like taking the raft direct on to a rock which threw us all off the raft into the water... It was great... We had done the full day rafting.. which was 21 miles... The rapids were great... we had lunch in the afternoon.. which was good.. and then proceeded for the remaining trip down river... At one point Scott just got off a on a rock and we were going forward and only about 100 yards later we realized he was not there on the raft... One of the best adventure experiences of my life. This was my first time white water rafting and I decided to do the wilderness overnight adventure with friends down the middle form of the American River. I expected to have fun and knew that it would be challenging but this trip exceeded all my expectations in the best possible ways. We rafted down rapids, hiked through caves, explored hidden waterfalls, played games on the beach while sharing stories, camped out under the stars (by choice), and swam in the river and connecting streams. It felt so good to be away from electronics and enjoy the amazing views. I was also pleasantly surprised at how well we ate during the trip (all food was included in our wilderness package and prepared by our guides). Without a doubt, I attribute such an amazing experience to our river guides, Will and Irish. They are truly the best of the best. Their love for what they do and for the Earth was reflected in this experience. I cannot wait to go back again. read more

An unforgettable 3 days is an understatement when describing our experience on the Lower Klamath with the Tributary crew! This was our first multi-day rafting trip with our young kids (5 and 7 y/o) and we all had the time of our lives! Jeremiah and Eva pay attention to each and every detail of every aspect of their trips and it shows! They even brought their 2 kiddos to help ease the way of ours! We felt safe from beginning to end! The food was delicious and let me tell you.. they do not cut any corners on meals! Breakfast lunch and dinner were very well planned and always yummy! The camp spots that they scouted were beautiful and so much fun for the kids to play in the water. Their knowledge of the river is unbelievable agnd we can't imagine better raft guides for this trip! This was definitely one of the best days I've ever had! I was so nervous going, after my husband told me I should watch San Andreas fault before we go, do not recommend watching that before your first white water rafting trip. The trip however was AMAZING! I felt totally safe and comfortable. Josh was our guide and I could never say enough good about him. He made us all feel safe, he was fun, he was so knowledgeable about they whole tour, we acatully got some history lessons while on our tour. He know everything about the river! He also pulled our raft to the side of the river because another group was stuck in the rocks, he new exactly what to do. I swear Josh was going to run across water to help them since he proved the entire trip how talented he was, I was just kinda of expecting him to run across the water, unfortunately he went to shore, but that was the only dissapoint I had! I cannot wait to do this again. Bringing my kids back for sure in a couple weeks. And Josh better be our guide! Ps was fully impressed by the hot lunch at camp, that was awesome! read more

Just did a 3 day rafting trip with my brother and friend. Spent two days on the South fork of the American River and then a final day taking on the Middle Fork. What a great vacation, filled with such excitement and adventure along with some nice chill/relaxing time at the campsite and during slow spots on the river. Was served food for breakfast, lunch and dinner since we did a three day trip - food was pretty damn good. Also, wanted to give a shout out to both of our guides Jim Book and Kevin. Jim took us down the South fork for two days and was full of knowledge and had some of the best damn stories and jokes! As a side note as we went down the river everyone knew Jim and it was not uncommon to hear other guides on the river yell as we passed "he's a legend!" He was also posted up in the campsite area too and let's just say hospitality is one of his finest traits. Like I said Kevin took us down the more intense Middle fork and he was unreal and super chill. Also, had some great jokes and stories. We ripped through awesome rapids like tunnel shoot, parallel park and ski jump to name a few. Also, did some sweet surfing with both guides - what a blast! Tributary knows how to give the best experience no doubt. Will have these memories for life. Next trip will likely be the Yuba with this company!!! read more

Hands down the best rafting tour company in the area. don't go with one of those corporations that don't know the river, go with the guys that live on the river year round that can also tell you a little history on the way and the lunch is more food then you can eat and great quality. if you can try and get the cute tour guide Kelsey she is a very knowledgeable and fun guide it's her 7th year on this river. VERY FUN! I did level 3 with 6 other people in one raft and most of us were beginners. I would suggest level 4 if you want more thrills, we went through a couple of big rapids but most of the time it was looking at scenery. What made it fun was our guide, Jake? (I think that's his name) he's like a total hippie. He told jokes and stories and I was his main target for the day, to push into the water.... Everyone basically fell in the water, not because of the rapids...but because of each other, including our guide! It was war... Other tours looked like they were bored and serious, they do not know how to have fun at all. If you want a good ass time, come here! But you cant get mad at them for pushing you into the water though, cus they will... BE PREPARED read more

My family and I just completed a one day rafting trip down the middle fork river with the Raft California company. We were all adventurous beginners. The class 4+ rapids were amazing, especially down the tunnel chute. Special thanks to our guide Kyle. He was absolutely amazing!
