The church is passionate about helping immigrants and international students settle in Buffalo. Their Sunday service is at 10am and 11am, and everyone was welcoming. While my husband and I don't attend this church, I would recommend this church to Korean international students who may come to Buffalo to study.

I have been here over the years a number of times, but more recently I have been here almost weekly, for a variety of things. Its on Symphony Circle, across from Kleinhans. Its also the oldest church in Buffalo, founded in 1812, and has had a continuous congregation ever since. The current church location has been the site of the congregation since the late 1880's. The land was donated by Mrs Trueman Avery in honor of her parents. The church was designed by Green & Wicks, at the time a very well known firm. During the Pan Am exhibit, Theodore Roosevelt worshipped at the church, both as VP and POTUS. The windows here are amazing. If you can get a tour, take one. Especially on a sunny day when the light shining through the stained glass really is remarkable. Even at night the church is lovely from the inside. Intricate artwork easily visible throughout. The windows were put in in the 1920s. Over the years there have been some modifications to the church, some new things installed in members names and others things sold off. But overall it remains very similar to what it started as over 100 years ago. Its a large church, so now houses other things as well. KC Fitness in the basement. Explore Buffalo has offices here. Parking is in a small lot by the church or street. It can be hit or miss. I'd arrive early if you are attending an event.

The reason I didn't give 5 stars is for a couple of reasons..inner city parking is always a problem (not a lot can always be done about that), but when I visited the first time someone thought I was someone else and addressed me by their name (which was an awkward but understandable mistake), but when I returned 3 times after that..no one actually remembered my name or even acknowledged me. I sat in on an addictions class that was pretty chaotic..so I left half way through. The song leader talks and sings quickly to keep things upbeat but he has to give commentary At least once during a song or two and that breaks up the enjoyment of singing. One thing I truly did enjoy about my time here was when an older man plaYed the harmonical and shared his experience of when he came to know Christ. It seemed genuine and I have missed seeing that in churches :) and it did my heart good when two ladIes came by one Saturday to invite me to ladies Sunday school class :)

Family and friends filled the place. Even then I was struck by the beauty. I was back recently for a funeral. Again I was impressed with the beauty of the place. It's really lovely. The organist for the funeral was terrific and the acoustics quite good. The occasion was tragic, and again it was filled with friends and family, from far and wide. I'm not a mass goer, but I love churches. The grandeur. The history. The stories. I love them. This is a good one. They have plenty of parking. There is also a large meeting space for receptions and the like.

Currently the interior ceiling has been lowered for better heating efficiency so some of the interior splendor is gone or at least muted. It's still pretty high. However, this review is about pierogi! On most Monday mornings, the ladies of the parish (and some men) gather in the parish hall to make pierogi, which are sold for $12 a dozen. Cheese, potato and sauerkraut are available. These are the genuine homemade article, as you can see from the assembly line rolling dough, adding fillings, etc. They come well wrapped and frozen, and I am trying to keep some on hand at all times, but they keep getting eaten!

Rev William Schreck established the parish of St Gerards to fit the spiritual needs of the area. As time went on, they needed a bigger place to worship, because more people were coming to the area. So in 1911 the current building was started. They did not actually finish it until the 1930's, but they used it starting in 1913. Its made from Indiana Limestone. Ive been here only once, on a recent tour of area historical sites. The open hours seem a little limited, but if you catch them, its worth a visit Bring a camera.
