Really enjoyed Father's homily and the ambience of the church was prayerful and peaceful. I was here years ago during a special memorial Mass in honor of St Maximilian Kolbe but didn't remember too many details. Loved how the church is pretty much situated in a housing neighborhood giving the environs a quiet feel. There's lots of parking as I imagine on weekends it must get quite crowded. Added joy was that after Mass, Father brought out the Monstrance containing the Blessed Sacrament of our Lord's sacred Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity. Stayed for Adoration and confession afterwards. So grateful to Father for offering the sacrament of reconciliation since we missed our usual time during first Saturday due to airline travel. The priest is very young and fervent and we could see he loves Our Lord very much. Hope to stop by in the future if our travels bring us this way again. Mahalo for reading my review.

Lovely iconic church established by Franciscan convential friars in 1882. The original church…read moreburned down in 1901 but the existing one you see today is the 1902 reconstruction. More information is available on the church website. Designed 60 years before Vatican II era, this beautiful house of worship is situated "ad orientum", so that the rising sun (typeology of Christ's resurrection) enters the rose window at the narthex and shines on the holy altar where His Sacrifice is re-presented. The interior is filled with architectural elements commensurate with orientating the human senses to the contemplation of God and the Holy Trinity. The marbled carved altar shows the last Supper in relief and the figures are exquisitely sculpted. There are many liturgies throughout the week, multiple Mass and confession times and the community parish is open, welcoming and thriving as testament to the pastoral excellence of the Franciscan friars in residence here. Also, when we went to the church service, they had a missionary man, who had an alter-ego and basically talked about himself and needing money the whole sermon. He also make very rude comments on stage and was not a prepared, or holy man based on what we witnessed. We left early because it was that upsetting. All guest speakers/Preachers should be vetted very carefully by the Pastor himself before allowing anyone to give a talk in front of a congregation. Now, of course, I do not expect them to reply even to this low review, since that is the way its been in the past. One the most important aspects of gaining new members is an excellent follow up program, that is credible and reliable.

Long before the trashiness of Wildwood, the tragedy of Atlantic City, or even the boardwalk bluster…read moreof Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, NJ beach culture was largely defined by a bunch of teetotaling, bible-thumping, tent-raising Methodists. At the height of the so-called Camp Meeting movement in the late 19th century, American Methodists regularly convened massive summer religious retreats on remote beach locations far from the sinful cities. Popular locations included Martha's Vineyard, Rehoboth Beach in Delaware (a personal favorite), and, of course, the "Queen of the Victorian Camp Meeting," Ocean Grove, NJ. Few places give you such a concentrated dose of NJ weirdness as Ocean Grove, especially when contrasted with nearby Asbury Park, which is just a short boardwalk away. Then and now, the heart of Ocean Grove remains The Great Auditorium: a massive 1894 wooden barn-like structure built for church services that also contains "one of the largest pipe organs of the world." Walking around the ancient auditorium and the nearby Victorian homes, you feel like you've walked onto the set of some seaside mystery or horror movie. Lurking in the shadow of the Great Auditorium, you can still see the famed "tent colony" of Ocean Grove--another holdover from the town's Victorian beach days. Every summer, families can enjoy 1870s-style luxuries like living in a canvas tent with no air conditioning and limited access to running water. For some reason, there's a long waitlist for this privilege, which I will never understand.
