The first permanent log meeting house was built in 1756, and was destroyed by the British during the Revolutionary War. The people of the Midway community and nearby Sunbury were supporters of the cause for American Independence. Interestingly, church member Lyman Hall was sent to represent Georgia at the First Congressional Congress in 1775. In 1776 he was joined by neighbor Button Gwinnett and Augusta resident George Walton - all of who signed the Declaration if Independence. By the mid 1800's the Congregationalist church had strong ties to Presbyterianism. All of it's ministers were Presbyterian, and its offshoot churches later became Presbyterian. The current structure was built in 1792, and of the New England style. According to the Midway Museum and Society internet site "in colonial and antebellum times it was commonplace for White members and their African American slaves to attend the same church." Additionally, "the Midway church has a slave gallery" for seating during these services. During the Civil War the Union troops camped around the church and used the nearby cemetery as a "horse lot."

If you need a place to lay your loved one to rest, I recommend. My grandparents were already cremated so I called the church to see what we could do for a very small service. Reverend Perry was amazing enough to say some things.. I'm not sure of the proper word for it, but I don't think it's called a Eulogy. I wasn't who to call to dig a hole or if it can be done ourselves, but the man John at the church offered to do it. Even though we ended up not needing John, I don't want to forget to mention him. It's peaceful out here. If you need impromptu flowers, there's a dollar store around the corner near IGA and pizza peddler.

I have been invited out and did not feel pressured or forced to attend any service. The atmosphere is always friendly and warm. The people are so nice and will really go out of their way to help me if I am in need. This is a great church and I will recommend it to anyone. They also have a great missionary ministry to many different countries in the world.

The hopcc in Hinesville, GA and everywhere else, are the same in every way, they are very controlling over the established members. They start off very subtile at first but then as time goes on, their grip gets tighter. They control everything in your life; from where you live, to who you marry, and how many kids you should have. You can't live your life the way you want to, while attending this church. I am just now getting to know myself and what I want in my life, being away from that church. Please don't ever think about going to the church. You will find that it's a waste of time and have sleepless nights because of its rigorous schedule. The pastors are all liars and hide the truth from all the people; such as, they're currently being sued by the Department Of Justice. I would give no stars but had to give one to leave this review.
