Worst experience I,ve had in my life traveling. I am 74 years old and use tripper because the arlington stop is convenient. but this is what happened last trip. We made a rest stop and cranky driver told us he would leave us behind if not back in 15 min. I am a freak about being on time but had a terrible mix up at Starbucks just as I got to pick up my drink. so I was 2 min late and panicked as I realized my bus was gone. then I spotted bus as it was at the exit. panicked again and ran like crazy to catch it before it left. dropped my wallet in a ditch As I ran across to get there faster. I nearly had a heart attack! As I ran to the bus I watched the driver calmly watching me. when I arrived and climbed on, he was extremely sarcastic. "You deserved it" What a nasty individual. I agree with another review that the only drawback to Tripper is that they are NOT doing a good job vetting drivers. I've been on other trips with Tripper where drivers are morose and seem reckless and tense while driving. I even thought they are on uppers to get them through as I watch them constantly fidgeting and moving restlessly. I hope this helps some of you decide about what company you use.. Perhaps after my complaint to Tripper, they will begin to vet drivers more carefully. read more

Tripper bus is an awesome punctual bus with great customer service. But what kept them from getting 5 stars are their bus drivers! The driver going to NY was super friendly, but he also had a short temper...but I'm willing to forgive that because he was nice for the most part. But the driver we had coming back from NY had serious road rage and texted on the phone while driving which made most of us uncomfortable. If Tripper Bus can manage to put their drivers through a better screening process, they'll be a top quality travel company. read more

Decent prices, convenient pick-up / drop-off locations (right next to Metros), lots of scheduling options (departure times -- even for last-minute travel), clean & comfy new buses, wi-fi (though spotty at times), dependable, easy to use -- and, possibly the best part: a phone number to call if you have questions or concerns, and a real live human to answer and to help. Amazing above-and-beyond service this morning! Because of a glitch with a foreign credit card, they didn't have our reservation in the system. The Bethesda "Stationmaster" was so warm and helpful (forgot to get his name -- thank you!!). He called his colleague - also fabulous - and they got us on the bus and on the road with minimal fuss. Boarding at Bethesda is routine; right on schedule; attendant competent & friendly. Surprised by white, unmarked bus (how do you build awareness?). PRICE WAS TERRIFIC - $21 for two round trip! About $5 per person each way. Maybe I have read too many reports about modern, almost luxurious service and had unrealistic expectation. Inside is OK; seats cramped. No way can you use a computer easily. Yes, electricity. Very rough ride...I thought these things were better today. Maybe competitors are the same, but I will find out. Still, I appreciate the terrific price and want to see them survive. read more

Just took a trip with them a week ago, and liked them so much. Also, free water on the bus, wouhoo. We left pretty much on time both departure and return trip. The driver to NYC (his name was Donald) was fun and nice. He gave us extra time at the rest-stop. He was a good driver and i was not concerned for my safety. The driver on the way back was not that talkative, and I regret that he did not make an annoucement about arrival time at all. But instead, he got us to Bethesda extremely fast, however, it did seem like he was speeding on the freeway, since we kept passing other cars. The seats are so comfy! The travelers are a nice crowd (can't compare to Greyhound). The Wi-Fi worked good on the way there, but not so good during the return. Anyway, will use them again! read more

My past experiences with Tripper Bus were all good, until yesterday (8/29/2011). Around 20 of us were waiting at Bethesda stop for the 3:10pm bus to NYC, but nothing (no bus, no representatives) showed up at all. Until around 3:50pm someone who's also in line finally reached a person from the company on the phone, and told us the bus was CANCELED?! WITHOUT ANY NOTIFICATION?!?!? So far I still heard nothing from them, and will keep trying to reach them to get all my money back. Updates on 08/31/2011: Heard back from Tripper bus -- they said they've sent out email to notify about the system error/cancellation and rescheduled people for earlier bus that day, but for some reason this email never reached us, at least not for those who also waited in line together with me. They refunded my bus fare also offered an extra complimentary bus ride. read more

I've been riding with tripper for the past 3 years and have always been very pleased. I can honestly say that Tripper is way better than Vamoose or Megabus. Tripper bus always has cleanest buses and their seats are the nicest by far, they are very plush and comfortable. The drivers are great, very nice and quite funny. Wi-fi and outlets always work. Not only is the service great but so is the customer service. I highly recommend Tripper bus over any other bus service. read more

WHY BOTHER TAKING A RISK WITH THIS BUS!?!? Do you want AWFUL customer service, then this place is for you! I called customer service to reserve a seat for my cousin and the person that picked up the phone was awful, was not helpful and pretty much said that my cousins will be able to board if it's not sold out, and when I asked if it was already sold out, she said no, but could be. When I said how many seats available, she said she can't see on her screen, then I asked then how do you know if it's not sold out? Then she was giving every excuse to not want to help me, she said her screen froze, then she said I can't buy tickets from her, then she said her computer was down, then just stayed silent as if ignoring me. I asked to speak to a manager, she said the usual "she stepped out". And I asked for the name of the manager, she said "Betty". If there's really a "Betty" manager there, why are you stepping out during work hours and did you know you have a bad customer service lady working for you???? read more

As others have mentioned, the fellow who does check in in Bethesda is pleasant and helpful. No one since 2010 complained here about the ride to New York being bouncy, but I find that made the trip uncomfortable for me. I am easily motion sick, and I could not read or watch the free movie (it was the Elite trip) because of all the bouncing making me nauseated. Maybe the roads have deteriorated, but I did not see much bouncing by the other passenger vehicles. If you are prone to motion sickness, I'd recommend pre-medicating before this trip. read more

Hello All. My husband and I used Tripperbus in May 2010. We had round trip tickets from Bethesda to New York. We were very pleased with the customer service and trip! When we arrived in NY, I left my camera on the bus! I realized it once I was getting on the subway and called as soon as I arrived to my destination. The customer service rep knew the bus driver and gave me his phone number. Luckily, he was still in the city taking a break until it was time to pick up the next group going to Bethesda/Arlington. He asked me a few questions about the camera( testing to see if it really was my camera) and of course I answered all correct. He then told me he had the camera and what time to meet him next to Macy's(pick up location) in the city. I was so thankful!!!! I would definitely advise anyone to ride Tripperbus because the customer service is good and they really look out for you. Hope that helps! I've used Tripper bus a few times over the last couple of years. I've never had a problem other than sitting in traffic. But even then, the bus drivers knows short cuts and side roads to get around the traffic and move us along. My last trip was this past weekend as I went up to NY on Friday morning and returned Sunday afternoon. The ride up was fine, no complaints and we got there almost on time. Hit some traffic on the NJP. The ride home was not bad either. What was bad was this woman who kept coming up to the front of the bus to complain it was too cold on the bus. It was 94 degrees outside. Would she have preferred he cut off the AC and we all sat in the hot humid bus? I would have rather been slightly cool than too warm. Luckily I was sitting next to a very nice person who I got along with well. Which made the trip go by a lot quicker. Tripper a great way to get from Bethesda area to mid town NYC. As always traffic not in their control, but drivers seem flexible. I even able to suggest detours to avoid large backup on I95. Occasionally a bus may be missing the WiFi or electricity but reservations usually indicate this. Everyone has been courteous. read more

I've been taking this bus for the past five years Bethesda-NY round trip and NOT ONCE has the WiFi ever worked the approximately thirty times I've been a passenger - they need to stop advertising themselves as having WiFi because they don't. And some of the drivers are tailgating maniacs a la Mad Max or idiots who yap irresponsibly and loudly into their cell phones while driving. They also tend to ignore legitimate passenger concerns and complaints - once all the passengers noticed one tire was seriously deflated while waiting on line to get on the bus, but both the driver and ticket collector laughed at our concerns. Approximately an hour later the tire blew on the I-95, and we all had to wait an hour for AAA to show up with a new bus tire and change it. All the passengers were furious about this entirely avoidable delay. Aside from these significant shortcomings, it is generally a reliable bus company - unfortunately there are few if any alternative bus companies that are actually any better. read more

(4) you want to reach some random person's cell phone voicemail every time you try to call customer service NIGHTMARE experience trying to get to new york over columbus day weekend. the dude in the picture uploaded by Jane D. straight up lied to us repeatedly. first he said that the driver had told him that he'd be at our stop 45 minutes after the scheduled departure time. an hour later, he said that it would be another 30 minutes. another hour later, the bus from New York pulled up to our stop and he walks over and complains to the driver that we (the passengers) were driving him crazy and makes a neck-wringing motion. :::: MAN, can you BELIEVE that these people are angry at me for lying to them for 3 hours? the nerve of people!::: three hours after the scheduled time, 80% of the passengers had left and/or booked a nearby vamoose bus. we are told that an ancient VAN -- not a BUS pulled up. the ENTIRE time, the tripper rep showed NO remorse and NO empathy. He did not appear to understand the urgency of the situation and he did not do anything to attempt to remedy the situation (get a backup bus? call the owner? let us know that it'd be a 3 hour wait so that we could look for other options or go sit down somewhere other than the dirty sidewalk?). he kept saying "i'm just the messenger. i'm telling you what the driver is telling me. what do you want me to do?" the next day, we got an email from Tripper Bus that the driver had apparently gone AWOL. so, either the Tripper office lied or the picture guy lied, bc he had been "on the phone" with the driver while we were waiting there. do NOT support this company. use vamoose. at least vamoose will answer the phone when you call customer service. read more

I think Tripper bus is awesome. Part of that is my most recent experience. I took an 8:30pm bus out of NYC last night for the Thanksgiving holiday. Unfortunately with traffic it was a little late. Didn't leave until 9pm, but the driver got us there around 1am, which is impressive with how slow it was getting out of NYC. The driver was super nice (name was Larry Smith). To top it off, when I got to Bethesda I was an idiot and forgot to grab my bag that was in the bottom storage in the bus. My mom picked me up and I was exhausted and realized this on the drive home. I called the bus company and the driver was already on his way to Baltimore to store the bus. She told me to call the office tomorrow morning so they could tell me where to pick it up. The office called me the next morning and said they would drop it off in Bethesda. I went to the Bethesda and they had it right there waiting for me. I was really impressed with the service and was happy to not have to drive to Baltimore. Overall, tripper bus is reasonably priced, comfortable, reliable, and the customer service is as good as it gets. Tripper is on time, clean, and comfy; the easiest way to get from Bethesda to NYC-have taken 4 trips and all the drivers were terrific. The promotional rates are good and even if you have to pay full fare, it's well worth it. I like that the bus does not make a stop. Saves a lot of time. read more

I have ridden at least 7 different bus companies between DC and NYC, and this is probably the best one. I've ridden twice. There are plenty of power outlets for everyone and they always work, unlike Bolt or Mega where they are sometimes broken or difficult to reach. The Wifi isn't very good (it never is on these busses) but it was sufficient to send emails and read wikipedia. Importantly, the bus ran on time and was mostly empty. One stop for 20 minutes. Arrived within 15 minutes of the scheduled time. read more

It might sound strange but I'm still not use to being able to go from Bethesda to NY and back for under $100 for two people. Before I discovered Mega Bus and Tripper Bus I would just drive up to New Jersey and take NJ Transit or water taxi into downtown NY. Those days are way over. Now are the days of relaxing with my laptop (I know relax and laptop don't belong in the same sentence) enjoying a quick 4 hour ride. So let me talk about my experience with Tripper Bus. As a few have mentioned the online ticketing is easy and will take you less than 5 minutes to book a round trip from Bethesda to NY. The part I enjoy the most is the location the bus picks you up in Bethesda right next to Bethesda metro station and parking garage. Tripper Bus always has a representative that show up around 30 minutes before the bus arrives. His name escapes me at this moment but he was friendly each time and very helpful to people that forgot to print out there receipt. If you forget to print out your receipt just show him/her your e-mail on your BlackBerry/IPhone. If you want to ride with your girlfriend/wife or whatever get there early or you will be looking at the back of her head 3 seats down. My wife and I arrive 30 minutes early and never have an issue getting a seat together. As for the ride, we always go real early Saturday morning and fall straight asleep when we get onto the bus. That says a lot about its noise, safety and how smooth the ride feels. The bus is always clean and the drivers are friendly. Just don't come back late from rest area stops, unless you like walking. Don't assume you will get connected to the internet. Overall it's still a new technology and is not consistent. Perhaps I can take my own advice and say put the laptop away grab a good book and some headphones and enjoy the ride. It's a great way to get out of Bethesda to NY. read more

This is the worst bus I have ever taken in my life! The ride down from NYC to Bethesda on 4/2/11(9:30 AM NYC departure) was easy breezy. The driver made the trip in a record 3h:45m (it also rained very badly along the way)! Incredible! I would've given TripperBus 5 stars on that trip alone however, my trip back to NYC from Bethesda was an incredibly different story. I was scheduled to leave Bethesda on 4/3/11 at 4PM --- but because of an idiot bus driver who apparently didn't know his way around MD got lost...Instead we leave at 5 PM because the bus driver didn't know where the pick-up stop was located in Bethesda? WHAT THE FUDGE?!? Also, apparently the man coordinating the check-in at the Bethesda bus stop kept saying the bus would be here in "5-10 minutes"....5-10 minutes actually turned out to be an hour. Two folks who work for Tripper went around the town looking for the bus driver to make sure he wouldn't miss the turn onto Edgemoor Lane. OMG! Aren't these bus drivers supposed to be TRAINED on that sort of thing before they start driving passengers to and from? Not to mention, the pick-up bus from Arlington, VA prior to coming to Bethesda was also late! GEEZ LOUISE! A fellow passenger on my bus even made a comment to other passengers waiting in line for the bus that departures from Bethesda are historically ALWAYS late! Doesn't give me much confidence in the company.... :/ Once the bus driver finally arrived, we left about 5 PM (an hour late)...We hit MD traffic on 495 and 95 (all VA/MC/DC traffic due to cherry blossom festival and construction) -- a total of 2.5hrs of slow moving traffic. Total trip took about 5.5 hours -- arrival time to NYC was about 945 PM. The bus driver apologized for the inconvenience upon arrival. Unfortunately, I didn't believe him. I DO NOT recommend this bus service coming from MD to NYC. They are UNRELIABLE, DISHONEST, AND UNTRUSTWORTHY! But for $25 what do you expect, really? Going to take the Amtrak from now on. I am normally not the type of person that makes complaints but the incident that happened on Saturday 5/24 was beyond unprofessional and therefore I felt the need to complain about it so there can hopefully be a thorough investigation towards keeping such a rude driver on board. We were about 5 minutes away from the rest stop when the driver made the announcement that she was only going to wait for 20 minutes and to be on board at 9:45 am. It was 9:40am when me and my wife got on board and we noticed that she was already making headcounts. When she noticed that 1 person was missing which in this case was my dad she decided to put him on blast that embarressed me and my wife. Her words were these.. "Thank you all for following instructions. As usual there is always that one person that doesn`t know how to follow the rules" The passengers couldn`t believe what they were hearing but I of course kept my cool as during that time I was trying to get a hold of my father to come quickly but little did I know that the reason for the delay was because he had initially been threatened by 2 men in the bathroom to give up any money that he had left. The worst part of all was that while i was on the phone the driver started to pull out from the driveway. Me and a passenger in front of me were yelling at her to stop the bus as my dad was still not on board. She then proceeded to stop and made a sarcastic comment saying that she thought he was already on board which of course was a lie since she just put him on blast 5 minutes ago. As my priority was on finding my dad instead of arguining with the driver I ignored her comment and got off the bus to find him. When we got back to the bus we were told that the driver went looking for us. 5 minutes later she got back on and made a second announcement thanking all the passengers once again for getting on board on time and that if we there was any delay to notify her in advance. That last announcement was pretty uncalled for as how would we know that my father would get robbed? In the end this experience made our last 2 hours to New York extremely uncomfortable. Me and my wife have taken several trips to and from New York with Tripper Bus but after this incident I don`t see ourselves ever getting back on board. The fact that the driver had the audacity to leave my father at the rest area was extremely uncalled for. I am hoping that this incident gets addressed so it wouldn`t happen again. read more

This bus gets zero stars if I can possibly give it negative stars I would. I am very disappointed with this bus service especially since I've taken it in the past with no problem. I purchased a ticket from NYC to Bethesda and I came to the bus stop location 15 mins before as clearly instructed and I did not see the bus anywhere in sight. I have also taken this bus before so I'm familiar with the pick up location. It was horrendous outside- down pouring rain. I was completely drenched running around trying to see if the bus maybe changed it's location and I still could not find it. I called the bus service at the exact time it was supposed to be there by. I spoke to a manger who told me the bus was already passing through the Lincoln tunnel which means the bus left WAY earlier than it stated for it to be passing the tunnel at that time.I was also told I was more than likely not going to receive any type of refund. So I was basically stuck in New York by myself with no where to go because it was the last bus. never ever again and ill be sure to pass my experience along to others! read more

Great trip from New York to Maryland because the driver was excellent. He was very nice and safe.

We have used Tripper multiple times over the last couple years to take round trip day trips from Bethesda to NYC. They make it very easy from booking online to on-time schedules. They even accomodated us on the next ride one very early morning when we were late and missed our scheduled bus. It's great not having to worry about driving, tolls, parking in NYC, etc. The buses are always clean. There is not very much leg room in the seats, which is most noticeable on the drive home when we would like to stretch out a little and nap, but it is a bus so not much to do about that. Our driver last night on the trip back to Bethesda, Jerome, was probably one of the best, if not the best, driver we've had yet. Very friendly and professional. He told us when we'd be arriving and updated us when the timing was going to be different (arriving earlier than expected). All in all, nothing but pleasurable experiences. We will continue to use Tripper for our trips to NYC. It would be great if they offered service from Maryland to other destinations, as well. read more

Have used a number of times. Reliable, comfortable transportation at reasonable cost. The Bethesda agent at the bus stop is a gent. Drivers usually courteous and professional. Sometimes a bathroom stop, sometimes not -- seems to depend on the driver's need. (A consistent stop policy would be good). Wifi can fade in and out, but useful to have. I wanted to like this bus because they do have wifi and the Bethesda stop is better for me, but it did not live up to what I'd heard. I'd heard they have new buses, but the one I traveled on seemed worn out, a bit noisy, and the ride was bumpy because the shocks seemed worn. The bus left promptly, the leg room was good (better than Vamoose), the driver seemed competent (although slightly fast), but the promised wifi was so faint that I gave up. I prefer Bolt. I think it is a more comfortable ride, I have more faith in the mechanical quality of the bus, and the wifi works. read more

Grumpy and mean are two descriptive words for the bus driver today on the 2:00pm from NYC to Bethesda. He stood smoking a cigarette in NYC while we loaded our own bags under the bus, he mumbled something about a 15 minute layover at the rest stop, and when made the stop in Bethesda, he opened the doors to the luggage compartments on the side of the bus, lit a cigarette, and watched the passengers crawl inside the compartments to retrieve their own luggage. Women with canes, I swear it to be true, looked at him in disbelief, but he continued to drag long and hard. I suggested to him that if someone was injured, he might be liable. Did not phase him one bit. So, if we have to climb into the belly of the bus to place and retrieve one's own luggage, please let the passengers know before booking Tripper Bus. read more

I will try and keep this short and to the point. I will never use Tripper again. If I could give them zero stars, I would. I went to a family event in NYC (left from Bethesda) the first weekend in August, and on the return trip, the driver came within seconds of crashing the bus, likely killing the passengers/drivers in the cars ahead, as well as some of the bus passengers. We were on the turnpike, and our driver apparently zoned out and did not see that traffic had come to a FULL STOP ahead. It was only thanks to the (thankfully awake) older couple sitting behind him, that yelled out "stop, pull over" and "goddammit pull the bus over" (to be exact), that he perked up and was able at the last minute to guide the bus onto the shoulder...and um, if there hadn't been a shoulder, we would've likely flipped over, given the speed, or as I said earlier, slammed into the cars ahead. The driver was very upset, pulled over for a bit to get his bearings, and thankfully was kept engaged the rest of the time by the same couple. I felt for him, truly. But it was a horrible experience, one that was summed up by a passenger who thanked him "for not murdering us" as they departed the bus, visibly shaken and upset. My parents (73 and 78) said it was the closest they had come to dying, and were shaken weeks after. Did I write to Tripper and inform them? Yes. Did I get a response. NO. None, nothing, nada. This was well over 6 weeks ago - plenty of time for their lawyers to craft a response that wouldn't implicate them in any wrongdoing. This is a company that clearly does NOT seem to CARE ABOUT YOUR SAFETY. There are many other (better) choices out there. DO NOT USE TRIPPER. read more

The bus we rode on yesterday had really nasty exhaust spilling out of the tail pipe like crazy, as soon as it pulled into the NYC stop we were all worried about the bus because of the poor exterior appearances, and we had to make an emergency stop on the side of the road to fix the door. At highway speed, the bus was also very noisy, and we almost felt like the bus was going to be pulled apart. This (Access something lettering) bus needs maintenance work done before returning to the fleet for safety. read more

Great ride to and from NYC with girlfriends for a long weekend. On trip up, we needed to switch buses in Catonsville due to an oil leak. It was a non-issue as we made it to NYC in the scheduled time. Very comfortable ride and easy way to get to New York! Can't wait to go again! read more

The bus from Bethesda to NYC was okay but the ride back was not. Seems the heat was not working and even though the bus driver stopped a few times and tried to reboot it never came on and the temp was 38 to 40 degrees F. I emailed Tripper as did others on the bus and they did not send another bus but instead credited our account not our credit card. There were folks on the bus from Australia, so crediting their Tripper account was not going to be useful for them. I have taken Bolt and Megabus before and have not had this problem and from accounts from others I know, they generally will send a replacement bus if anything happens. I will only use Tripper once again to use my credit, but will go back to the other buses from this point on. Bad job Tripper Bus. read more

Smelled like vomit, the electrical outlest didn't work, the temp fluctuated between 60 and 98 degrees. Worst bus ride ever

I have used this bus services before and the service was always alright, but this past Labor Day Weekend I had HORRIBLE experience with them. On the way back from NYC to Bethesda, the AC in the bus was not working. That day the temperature felt like 90 degrees and I think the humidity was about 85%. I honestly was about to take off my clothes and feared that some people (including my husband) would pass out inside the bus since there was not air circulating. It was even hard to breath. We were all suffering inside that bus. There were even two girls who went to the backroom to take off their jeans and put on short. They honestly were lucky that the AC started working within about 40 minutes after we left NYC because people would have fainted in that heat. I'm NEVER AGAING taking this bus service because they KNEW the air was not working and it was unbearable to be inside that bus when we left NYC, and still they sent us away in that bus.
