Our room was smaller than expected, and so arranged that its desk chair impeded passage from one side to the other. At 7 AM we were awakened by a fire alarm and had to go into the street. It turned out that a kitchen worker had put a cloth napkin into the microwave. The night before we left we asked whether we could check out an hour later, but were told that we could not because they were full up fort he next day and therefore would be very busy. When we checked in we were asked whether we wanted to pay in pounds or dollars. we said dollars, and that resulted in an additional 3.5% afee that had not been mentioned. We won't be back.

I have stayed in normal rooms and most recently the club floor. Very comfy beds and the pillow spray will have your drifting off before you know it. The restroom boasts The White Company, London amenities. Good size tub and dual sinks. Shower is a stand-alone corner style with sliding doors, so if your 6'+ you will bang your elbows and knees. The club rooms also have separate sleeping quarters and a nice couch, desk and table with chairs. The room has a couple large flat screen TV's with a good amount of channels. There is an ironing board, small refrigerator, hot water heater and coffee machine. Everyday they drop off a couple cookies and chocolates. There is a restaurant on the ground floor which offers room service and plenty of meeting rooms and banquet halls. With the club floor access, I had access to the club lounge where you could have a variety of beverages and free breakfast. I believe from 18:00-20:00 they have appetizers and free alcoholic beverages available. Nice views of the city from the 8th floor lounge. Tip: Join the IHG rewards to earn night stays and access to the club lounge for FREE drinks and appetizers. Pleasant staff and you can even review your bill and check out on your TV before you leave.

The rooms are very well appointed for the price, and are like a very upmarket Travelodge. The provisions are basic, but all the necessary items are provided for. You get your free beverage tray etc. The bathrooms are like pods in the bedrooms, although are much larger than student bathrooms, just pod-shaped. The rooms were impeccably clean, and my parents were more than happy to use the hotel as a resting place. The hotel also has a small café/bar in the ground floor foyer, which, when the hotel is busy, is a fairly perky place to stop for a drink. Breakfast is served here (continental breakfast at an extra charge) as are hot beverages and snacks throughout the day. No one eats here in the evening considering the hotel is built on top of East Z East, but that is no hardship. The hotel's rooms have views over the city rooftops once you get to about the 3rd floor, so the rooms are light and don't feel hugely claustrophobic. If you are looking for a good budget hotel to stay in in Manchester, then look no further!

I arrived early from a transatlantic flight and they were thoughtful enough to get me into a room early and offered me a delicious, full English breakfast while I was waiting. My room was small and basic, but for me, even on a business trip, it was fine. As I stayed for business, WiFi was essential and buying it with my room, gave me a very reduced rate. The full English breakfast was a treat every morning! Here's what earned the 5 star rating for me: the bed and the bedding. It was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. I have to go back next year for another week and I'll be staying here.
