This looks very fun, but the booking process is annoying and NOT customer friendly. What they don't make very clear on the web site is that if you book less than 6 people, your ride is dependent on others booking at the same time to fill out the ride (this is in the fine print late in the process, but they also describe it as "rare" which I find hard to believe). I booked a time for 4 people (two visiting from out of town), nearly a week in advance. By the time the day before our booking arrived, I had still not received any confirmation (or any status updates at all). I called to ask about it and the person I spoke with explained we needed at least two more for our ride to work...and a manager from this location would call me to confirm or go over other options no later than 24 hours before the scheduled time. Well, that time came and went and no outreach from the manager. When I called again (with less than 24 hours before our scheduled time), they then told me the manager would call the morning of our noon reservation to confirm. That is simply unacceptable as I can't have people blocking their calendars that late in the game for something that is likely not going to happen. So I had to ask her to cancel our reservation. What should have happened is for the manager to call 24 hours prior (and honestly even that is stretching it) and give us other options (other time slots, if any) or explain we need to cancel. None of that happened. All that said, I would avoid using Trolley Pub at all if you have less than six people. And if you have six or more, buyer beware as they apparently do not prioritize customer service or communication. read more

We went on the trolley pub to celebrate a few birthdays. We had a blast! But it wasn't because of the trolley pub. If you go with a great group of people - you are going to have a good time. My issue with the trolley pub is that it is a pretty hefty cost for not a whole lot. We had to bring our own drinks, our own music, and tell the tour driver which bars we wanted to stop in. Nothing is included except a cooler of ice (and you might even need to pay extra for that). Another issue- it's called a private tour, but there is no tour. I thought we would learn a little something about our cool downtown, but nada. We just pedaled to one bar, stopped there for a drink, and then pedaled to another bar. No fun facts learned, no history, no new places checked out. When we asked if we could go to different areas- like the Glenwood area- we were told that we can't go there. When we asked to go to certain bars, we were told they don't like the trolley pub to make it one of their stops. I don't think the people in our group that booked the tour knew that bit of news before they made the reservations. So basically you pay a lot to bike to one bar, spend half an hour there, bike to another bar, spend half an hour there and bike back. There's your two hour "non-tour." We had fun, but would we do it again? probably not. read more

Our experience was amazing we had the best time our host Jessica was so cool. We absolutely would do it again but we do have a recommendation. When we first arrived we made sure we were early there were several people that were late which put us about 45 minutes behind and that wasn't fair. We wanted to spend a little more time bar hopping but couldn't we had to cut everything short. The people on our trolley were amazing we got along with everyone and being able to listen to loud music drink beer and pedal down the middle of the street yelling was right down our alley and we absolutely loved it. Another suggestion is we weren't told that we could adjust our seats accordingly. We went to the trolley hopped on and then we're told to start pedaling it was fun and all but some of us got bad bruises all over our knees because our seats weren't adjusted properly. So after the first stop my husband and I hopped off and adjusted our seats and then it worked beautifully. The pedals were also crooked so when you pedaled it was very awkward. But overall it was a great experience everyone was friendly our host was phenomenal we drank lots of beer we had lots of fun and we would definitely do it again thank you so much we had a blast. read more

Dillon is the man My lady and I were so excited to ride on the trolley pub and Dillon made it such a great / chill experience The first stop was near a pizza place the foundation and a Louisiana style restaurant/bar it was very great. My girl had the best whiskey sour she's ever had, made with fresh egg whites & cinnamon. After that we pedaled around for a while and then made our second stop nearby the Ugly Monkey where we had an awesome spiked creamsicle slushee & the Flying saucer. After that we made our way back to the trolley hub, the worst part is how soon it ended. We were ready to keep going just a little while longer. Other than that it was an overall amazing experience. Definitely would recommend if you're ever in Raleigh, NC. read more

We booked through viator and our booking was confirmed. We got a message from Tom that our booking was confirmed and they were looking forward to seeing us. When we arrived at the scheduled time at our pickup location, we waited outside for 30min in the heat. When we called to see what was going on, we were told that the third party company never sent the booking request. When speaking to the third party, they said the trolley tour company DID confirm. We came from CT for a bachelorette party and made plans around this tour. It was really unfortunate that the trolley pub tour could not accommodate us in light of this, in addition to telling us that they were unable to process our refund. Would NOT recommend this company. What a fun experience!! I'm so glad I got to finally do the Trolley Pub. It's not for the lazy though so if you're wanting to sit back and relax and not work... this is soooo not for you. It was fun to tour around downtown Raleigh with our Trolley Pub. Our host, Kira, was an absolute sweetheart and made sure we all had a good time by helping us select venues that we could hop off at. Usually with the 2 hour tour you can stop at 2-3 venues. We stopped near Coglins, Ugly Monkey and Level Up. It was a great time! The Pub is BYOB and no glass or hard liquor is allowed. We brought 4 cans per person and we drank about 3 cans each. We weren't pounding them back though so I think for a leisurely pace, 3 cans of cider/beer per person is sufficient. They have a cooler on board and cup holders for your drinks too. So no need to worry about that. I had a great time and highly recommend this to anyone visiting the Raleigh area or even for the locals that want to check out something new! read more

I have people visiting from out of town. On Saturday morning, we booked 4 seats on the mixer tour for Sunday at noon. We were extremely excited about the tour. I got a voicemail after 8pm on Saturday asking me to either change our tour time to 6:30 pm or 7:30 pm or to cancel, because we did not meet the minimum number of people. I was assured that I would not be charged. Well, I should hope not. I took a chance that I was called by a cell number and texted back, because I could not hear very well in the location I was at. I have attached photos of the whole text exchange (minus phone numbers) that took place so you can see for yourself why I gave my experience with this company one star. From my perspective, there was a problem, I tried to solve it. The representative for the company I was trying to give money to was not interested in taking my money. I offered to cover the cost for the fifth seat. That was not acceptable. There was no reason given, I was just told it had to be 5 people. I did not see anything about minimums on the website. Perhaps, I missed it. I doubt it though because I mentioned it 2 times in the exchange and the person said nothing to indicate that it was there. I was given a deadline of midnight to get a fifth person. My reservation was canceled for me, after I spent the evening contacting multiple people to fill the seat. I'm not sure if this happens to people often, but it is a problem with this company's set up that could easily been avoided by putting the statement of minimum people on the website. read more

We had an amazing time on the Trolley this past weekend! McMillen was our driver and he was the best! It was pretty impressive the way he navigated around town during the festival. This does not live up to the hype. Shane, our driver, begged for money and beg to have us ALL go and give him a 5 star rating so, as he said, could get an extra $20 "because kids need shoes" well that is not a issue I need to know. It already cost us $90 just to go around a few blocks. If you have time to spare, and you will in NC. Unless basketball season. Do the trip, but if not do not go out of your way to make this trip. Heck I provided the music so people would have sing along tunes. With that said I will say the folks in side the office were super friendly, and very helpful. My friends and I had such an amazing time with Kira last night! We were a little skeptical of signing up for a 10pm slot on a Thursday night but Kira was amazing! Since it was not a busy night downtown she let us pick out the bars we stopped at. We had option of either staying on the trolley during the stop or visiting bars. We learned that if the person to your left stops pedaling then you will feel more resistance as you will pick up their slack. If you are feeling lazy, the best place to sit is the back. Recently convinced some of my coworkers to do this (even managed to get Sam Williams & his wife to come out!) and it was surprisingly a relatively good time. We scheduled a tour on a Saturday afternoon in February on a cool-ish day. Even though it wasn't exactly the warmest outside, once we started moving and pedaling, you ended up feeling pretty warm. The two bench seats at the ends and the wheel seats don't have pedaling so if you don't feel like pedaling, you don't have to. The meeting point is at their place on Davie Street across the street from Boxcar and The Pit. You can bring your own alcohol as long as it isn't in glass bottles or any liquor. They also have a selection of canned beer/wine at their office that you can buy and they'll put it into a cooler for you. The tour lasted a little under 2 hours and we were able to pick 2 places to stop (we did Raleigh Times and Flying Saucer). The stops felt a little short (about 30 minutes each) but it was also probably just good enough to not make the whole trip too long. Overall, it was pretty fun and a good event to do with coworkers outside of work. read more

Trolley Pub is so much fun! We picked our own route and went to Raleigh Times, Woody's and Landmark Tavern. Make sure you bring alcohol and your favorite playlist to drink and pedal to! If you are unable to pedal, do not worry just sit in the back and enjoy the ride. I really enjoyed pedaling down the street, belting Katy Perry and waving to everyone. Do yourself a favor and ride on the Trolley Pub if you get a chance. It's so much fun going through the streets of Raleigh while drinking beers and stopping off at bars. The drivers are amazing and it's worth chatting with them if you get a minute while the trolley has stopped. We took two groups of people on two separate trolleys that went out at the same time. Racing each other was fun. A few things: it's BYOB and you have to serve yourself. And you have to pay for your own beer if you stop off at bars. All worth it, though. This was wonderful! It's a trolley that you literally pedal up and down the streets of Raleigh. 10 people pedal at a time and there are four seats at the back (one of the seats had pedals that didn't work). It was hard work, and you will get sweaty. Raleigh is surprisingly hilly. We had 9-11 on a Friday night, and there wasn't much traffic. The views were great - we saw the capitol building lit up, and got to explore the city (which was nice for a bunch of people who live in the Triangle but don't make it into Raleigh as often as we'd like). You have the option to go into different bars or you can skip them and keep pedaling around. It was such a nice night (about 75 degrees) that some of us chose to stay on the trolley instead of going into all of the bars (I think we stopped at 4)--after all, we had our own booze on board! The driver was really nice and helpful in making suggestions. I would definitely do it again, but in the daytime (especially in the spring or fall when it's less hot)! read more

I did not expect this to be so much fun! We went as a team outing for work, so we picked the 4-6pm version. We thought we'd have more traffic, but it wasn't too bad. Also, we expected that the electric assist option would be easier, but we found out that because it's so much heavier, it isn't that much smoother. To be honest, peddling w/ 9 people really wasn't a big deal. Occasionally, we had to pour the juice on - like when we ran a yellow(ish) light in front of a cop, but overall the peddling mechanisms make it pretty easy. It was HOT, but our boss brought Wilson headbands for all of us, so THAT was fun :) Add in several cans of Hell or High Watermelon Wheat beer and you have a parttty. We ended up peddling UP to Raleigh Times, stopped for a brew, then up and around the Capital, raced the other trolley pub (smoked em), and then ended up by Flying Saucer. We didn't go in there and decided to haul a** down to Brewmasters instead since that allowed us to go down nice hill on Dawson. Then, a quick hop/skip/jump back to the 'barn'. Tips: bring only beverages in plastic or cans, bring music (iphone/pod), and wear headbands! read more

You guys. Trolley Pub is seriously a MUST if you're traveling to Raleigh or Durham (or whereever else in the U.S. Trolley Pub is located). This experience has created some of my best memories with friends. You can participate in Trolley Pub either with a large group that takes up the whole trolley, or you can simply join onto other trolleys that have seats available. You must sign a waiver beforehand, and if you're pedaling and not on the back end of the trolley where there's a large seat with no pedals, then wear some comfy shoes. The trolley can shield you from the elements, but I'd also suggest wearing clothing that is comfy in the weather outside. Bring whatever beer you want and Trolley Pub will supply you with storage for your alcohol and belongings. The trolley goes to several bars across the city (usually some of the most popular ones), stops at each for a certain period of time (usually enough to have 1 drink), and then everyone hops back on the trolley and you're on to the next bar. I'd highly suggest renting the trolley for a big celebration with friends or just for a fun date night. You'll never be dissapointed and the combination of the music, passerbyers who cheer you on, and fun staff/customers who all make Trolley Pub a unique and exciting adventure! read more

Went with three other people, packed a cooler full of sangria, beer, and snack and spent a few hours pedaling around town. It was a nice way to tour a new city We stopped at two bars along the way and the whole trolley went into them and ordered some shots. The only part I wasn't thrilled about was that it ended 20 minutes early which we weren't expecting. Our guide (I can't remember her name unfortunately) was fabulous and super fun for leading the tour. Had a great time with Vince as the driver. I got a Groupon for a friend and I so we were on the tour with a fun group of strangers and that definitely makes it a cool experience. Vince did a great job packing our drinks and just being fun! I recommend being vocal about music choices because I think that really influences the fun you have. I also recommend going in with a game plan though because buying drinks at the 3 bars we stopped at was a lot since we only had about 15 minutes to be there (i.e. don't order beer if you're not okay chugging it to finish ha). We had a great experience on the Trolley Pub! We loved that they had a store to buy lots of different local beers when you check-in. They packed them in a cooler for us an loaded them onto the trolley! This was a really nice touch that trolley pub services I've used in other cities didn't offer! Our conductor was Shane and he was so awesome! He had a lot of knowledge about the different bars and what type of vibe we would find at each bar. He let us pick if we wanted to go to more "chill" beer bars, or more dance type clubs. I appreciated that! He was funny and entertaining and he took pictures for us which was so nice of him! What an great time! I've done the Trolley pub twice now, both times were a mixer tour, and I've always had more fun than expected. This is the perfect option if you have a group of friends you're trying to plan a night out for. The Trolley generally makes three stops at a bar or club that the group agrees on. Some people are surprised by the fact that the trolley is BYOB, and not an actual drink-providing pub. I personally think it's kind of fun to bring your drinks. Yeah, it would be nice if they'd thrown in a free drink or two, but $30-$35 per person for a two hour trolley tour of downtown while you get to party with friends is certainly worth it. PROS: - You get to ride a friggin trolley around downtown while drinking canned drinks of your choice. - The trolley is motorized. Yes, you do need to pedal but it's not hard. - The staff is great to respond to emails and calls. They have been very accommodating and understanding when I've dealt with them. - They have speakers that you play your music to. - They provide coolers for your drinks. CON: - Personally the best part of the trolley pub is riding around downtown. I could do with less stopping at bars. Maybe 1-2 stops to give the driver a break. I can bar hop anytime, I paid for the experience of riding the trolley around! To Remember: - Tip your driver. - They charge for ice to add to coolers, but it's not expensive. - It's BYOB, but you can't have hard liquor or anything glass. - Definitely read the rules before booking. - Their website says there is a weight restriction of 275 per person, however that is for the pedal seats. If someone is over this weight (depending on how much, probably) they can still sit on the back bench. read more

I've been wanting to do this for the longest and I got a free ticket through Offline so I went with a group of girls. My tour guide was Evan who was super accommodating. A couple of the people in group showed up a little late and he was kind enough to wait for them although we did only do 2 bar stops and standard is 3. The actual biking part wasn't too strenuous the motor does most of the work for you. The trolley has an aux cord so we nominated someone to be the DJ. There are seatbelts on all of the seats so I felt safe the entire time despite declining the helmet. I would definitely do this again maybe as a pregame to a night out. read more

Purchased a Groupon for a 14-person private tour to celebrate my birthday, and booked the trolley a few weeks in advance. When you get there, everyone has to show their waiver confirmation QR code and drivers license to the employee in the garage/main room to get a stamp. As people were arriving/checking in, we packed two coolers (brought one full of ice and used one of theirs). On the inner part of the trolley, there's hooks to hang bags/purses but you can't really leave anything on the floor (except the coolers) because the floor isn't covered on the sides. I would highly recommend bringing plastic bags to hook onto the trolley to hold any additional personal belongings/presents, snacks, or cups, so they don't slip off. This is truly the least fun thing I've ever done. You pay money to pedal a car to bars you can just go to anyway. You get nothing for your money except the opportunity to pedal a car. I repeat that for a reason - PEDALING A CAR. It's brutal. You bring your own beer, you get no discounts or anything at the bars you go to, and there is no "tour", the guides (who do not pedal, do not provide you with any drinks, and want tips for all the things they do not do) don't tell you about the history of the town or anything. I'm honestly baffled this business has survived at all. The trolley pub is, however, an interesting experiment in the willingness of people to pay to be in physical servitude, and there's some other political lessons to be learned as you pedal your face off to reach a whopping 3mph while some of your neighbors sit on their uncomfortable seats not helping at all. If Joseph McCarthy had really wanted to whip up a frothy Red Scare, he'd have just made every citizen participate in a trolley pub "tour". read more

Best discovery about the Trolley Pub I am too short to pedal! That's right I got to have all the fun without any of the work. This really is a genius idea and was so much fun. I recently checked out the Trolley Pub for intern, Alexa's birthday! It did not disappoint. It's BYOB no glass, but you can bring coolers, and any beer and wine you want in cans or plastic containers. Our Trolley Pub guide was great and they will pretty much go anywhere around downtown Raleigh wherever you would like to go. If you want to stop at the bars then you can do that get off and get back on as you please. We decided to just stay on the Trolley the entire time no need to buy booze when we already brought plenty of it, plus we were enjoying riding around downtown. During our ride we got a small rain storm luckily the Trolley is covered and we didn't get drenched. It's fun to wave to everyone on the street and in their cars while you're pedaling along. I'm not sure what the height limit is to reach the pedals but at 5 feet it was pretty difficult to pedal along. Make sure you bring your favorite playlist for the ride. You can bring your iPod and they will plug it in for you during your trip. Whether you're a tourist or a local this is a great way to explore DTR, I highly recommend the Trolley Pub! read more

What a fun way to spend an afternoon or evening with friends! The trolley pub allows you and your friends to peddle (don't worry there is also a small motor) around downtown blaring tunes, cheersing beverages and all around having a great time. The trolley seats up to 14 people I believe and they provide a cooler or two (you can bring your own ice or buy some for $2) to put your drinks in. They do have some waters but you will need to bring your own adult bevs (no liquor or glass allowed). You can create your own route and stop as much or as little as you want during your two hour trip. The drivers often have good recommendations if you don't know. One thing to note is depending on the time of the trolley some bar only places may not be open (i.e. if you go early). Overall, great times are always had for the trolley and it is a great way to celebrate a birthday, a team work outing and more! read more

The Trolley Pub was FANTASTIC! I had my family and the in-laws in town for Thanksgiving weekend and we were looking for fun activities to do with them while they were down here. Since we had 12 people visiting, the Trolley Pub was perfect! We booked the tour from 8:30-10:30pm on a Friday night. Being the night after Thanksgiving (and 30 degrees outside) the downtown scene wasn't exactly poppin, but our tour guide made sure we had the best time anyways. Instead of picking the bars we wanted to go to, our guide Tom took us on his tour of DTR. He was fantastic the entire time, cracking jokes, dancing, making fun of people on the bike (in a light hearted way of course) and making sure we were never bored. You need to bring your own drinks (no glass) but they provide you with a cooler to keep everything in. We set up an awesome playlist beforehand, and had a blast doing a tour of the town! I would recommend this to anyone with a large group, it is something different and a great way to entertain them. My only complaint is that the bus died at the end and we actually had to peddle it a good distance back. We were told about halfway through the tour that they did not charge it enough, so we also had to skip a bar we wanted to go to and take it back a little early. I don't think that should happen especially with the price you pay to rent it out for a private tour, but we had so much fun that we were willing to look past a little mishap. The Trolley Pub is a great time. I honestly don't know if it would be possible to have a bad time during the trolley time. Our group of 8 joined a group of 4 and one couple for a two hour adventure through Raleigh with Laura at the helm. By the end, we were begging for another loop around the neighborhood. We were lucky enough to snag a Groupon for half off tickets, but I would have been happy to pay for full price. You meet up at the Trolley central, sign a waver, show your id, and then head downtown. Our driver offered us a variety of places to stop including Raleigh Times, Calaveras (empanadas mmm), and Colgin's were the three I popped into on the tour. If there is a place you really want to go, your driver will probably make it happen.Lo She also let one of the front passengers play DJ. If peddling isn't your thing, there are four seats at the back and you can switch out with people during the stops. They provide coolers for you if you need and it is BYOB (no glass, no liquor).
