I took a beginner basics handgun class here and it was great! Learned lots. Spent the first hour in the classroom then the remaining hour & a half'ish on the range. It was exhilarating! Then recently did a transfer and it was a breeze. No appt needed. Walked in on a Friday evening and was helped immediately. The person who processed the transaction was super personable and knowledgeable. I think his name was Jake. I also met their trainer Ziah that day (sorry if I misspelled). I bought a vintage revolver from Trop Gun Shop in January of 2022. They missed something on a form (would not tell me which form), and in February called to tell me I had to drive 60 miles round trip to fix the form. When I pointed out the issue with that, they said they would mail it certified. (Hint: They failed to do so). Fast forward to June of 2022, and they are calling again with the same problem after dropping the ball back in February. They seemed 'cranky' when I suggested they work on their communications, and I read them their own messages from February. 'Troy' threatened me with calling the state police over the issue! I called the state police myself to find the proper way of fixing the paperwork mistake, and I'll be making the drive to see for myself the form is done properly. Now, I'm told by a Trop employee that 'Troy' there is an expert on compliance, and the state police supervisor in charge of their firearms compliance section (when I called) in PA is wrong about how the paperwork must be handled. Pardon me if I take that with a grain of salt. I worked for years with PA government compliance folks and found them very knowledgeable indeed. I have been in the store since February to buy another firearm, and I've purchased 5 or 6 firearms from Trop in the last year or two, but obviously won't be doing so again. No worries though. They've never actually seemed happy when I spent money there. As a retired businessman and teacher, I like to see what makes a business tick. After this surprising treatment from what is actually a 'value added' seller of common commodities (A business that sells common items and makes its mark with service), I turned to Indeed.com to see how their employees have been rating them. There, the picture became quite clear. (Another hint: rated 2.7 out of 5 on both Indeed and Glassdoor by their own employees). I recognize the huge investment Trop has made in their locations, but in a business that thrives on customer service, I don't think their management has deciphered the path to success. There are any number of firearms sellers in this area that are noticeably happy to have customers. Reading through Trop's reviews on various sites, I see that my poor experience was just one of a multitude. I'll say I understand the other reviews based on my own experiences there. The place LOOKS great, but their employees seem unhappy, are often surly, and the operation appears disorganized and badly managed. The times I was there at the store picking up a purchase, I never once failed to see customers leave after being unable to get help at the counter while employees ignored them. Recieved an email that a gun I wanted was in stock , I signed into my account , paid for my gun. Two days later I get an email saying it's out of stock and they cancelled my order. If I could give this place zero stars I definitely would!! Gun safety is clearly not a priority to them! We came here to use the range. They gave us a one hour time limit & had a limit of one box of ammo per LANE that you're allowed to shoot.. I would totally understand this IF they were limiting lanes because of COVID, but they weren't. Normally, when you go to a gun range most shooters are experienced & if they're new to shooting there's a firearms instructor to help & to also monitor gun safety.. but not here... no one walked around monitoring the shooters.. We had a guy new to us who clearly was new to shooting.. He loaded his gun pointed towards our heads.. We corrected him, letting him know you load the gun with it pointed down range. He replied, "Don't worry about it bud." as if that isn't something to worry about... This would normally get you thrown off a range and/or banned.. We reported the guy & the worker laughed & replied, "Yeah the woman with him loaded the bullets in backwards too." We immediately left after that. They clearly don't care about safety at all here! Please, please avoid this place!! I can only imagine what could happen here since they don't monitor who's shooting. We'll never be back. read more

I've been going to Trop since I was a little kid....since it was at its old location on the other side of town. Things have really gone down hill. If you browse their website you will see they have so much to offer as "in stock". From guns to ammo to accessories and cleaning supplies, their website says they have it all. On my recent visit to the store I found it to be absolutely desolate. The shelves were empty. There were no other customers. The range was empty (which could be a good thing if you want to go shooting....no line). All the employees were just standing around talking to each other. Finally one guy asked me if I need help. When I told him what I'm looking for he told me he doubts they have it in stock. He said the powers that be know the website is an issue but they do nothing to fix it. It was sad seeing it Trop so barren. I remember the days when it was full of merchandise, customers, and shooters. read more

Amazing experience! I was leery when we walked in, because the range employees were so young (I would guess under 30) but they were so knowledgeable and helpful, demoed and explained every gun we wished to rent for the range. We had a blast! We all left with smiles! Even said we would come back to the area to go to Trop, but not to Hershey Park. We were there on a week day and there were several other woman there who seemed to be members and several renting, so 5 woman total. I felt very comfortable there as a woman. The staff asked me specifically a out my experience with each gun (to comment on a few of the other woman who have negatively reviewed). Also, of course there are ammo limits, you have to live under a rock to not know that there has been ammo shortages for the last few years, obviously they have to set limits to spread the ammo around and let others purchase it for the range or home use (to comment on another review). We were able to shoot guns that are banned where we live, it was a once in a lifetime experience. As far as the store, it was the most well stocked, organized and welcoming gun shop that I have been to. We all loved the variety of items that were offered. They had some really cool mounts. Lots of powder for reloading was a definite surprise with all the recent shortages. When we got to the car we all commented about how the staff really knew their stuff! I recently participated in a basic handgun class taught by Cindy Bowser, who is an excellent instructor. I was very impressed with Cindy's commitment to safety. Cindy also reassured some participants who had never fired a handgun before. She patiently answered everybody's questions without getting too technical. I really appreciated Cindy's sense of humor especially when talking about the various competitions she won over the years. When we were practicing on the range, Cindy demonstrated her skills by rapidly firing 6 shots that formed a 3" grouping in the center of the target. I told the class it would not be a good idea to try to break into her house! On a scale of 1-10, Cindy was a 100! I highly recommend Trop's firearms training. Thank you Daniel M read more

I bought a .22 for my boy for Christmas. I bought it in October. After he opened it up on Christmas Day, I pealed away the stickers to find that the stock has a crack in it. I drove back to the store and spoke to a manager. He said because the purchase was over 60 days there was nothing he could do. He said how do I know you didn't abuse it. I told him I put it on a shelf until Xmas. It was never fired, or even taken out of the box. For all I know somebody could have dropped it in his store-- the odds are just as likely, and more probable. I know they wouldn't have knowingly sold me a defective gun. But the fact that they do a lot of retail business over the holidays, one would think they would have a contingency plan for this, as I am sure it happened before -- a hidden manufacturer's defect in a gift not found until after it was given at Christmas. He referred me the the manufacture, and he was done with me. He could not have cared any less. Poor after sale service. Would not recommend. read more

I recently had my husbands surprise 50th birthday party in their party area on the second floor. Everyone is still talking about how incredibly fun that night was. Joe and all the staff are incredible and we felt very welcome and valued as a customer and a person. I highly recommend there indoor shooting facility! UPDATE: Today I took a deep breath guarded up my loins (OT thing) and went back to the store. While waiting in cue the sales floor lead, Dennis came up front and waited on me. Dennis is a very kind man with whom I have spoken several times. Seeking Dennis' help, he went to work to find me a gun from the wish list I worked up. He also went out of the way to tell the owner, the real owner, of the issue I had, and the owner placed an order of one of the guns on my list to work through the gift card - online ordering system issue. Both were very kinds, apologetic, and helpful. The gun is now ordered. Apparently, the man I mistook as the owner below is one of the business leads who works in the office; may be a better place, sorry. Dennis and the owner did everything possible to meet my needs and work to win back a customer, and indeed I believe they did. I still would not recommend anyone buying one of the Trop's gift cards. If you do know they only work (at the time of this writing) for in store items. Likewise, don't expect to be able to get a refund for the gift card funds. Trop's should also ensure prospective gift card purchasers are informed of the non-refund and in store only restrictions for gift cards before they purchase. The information is printed on the gift card purchase receipt and card, but giving information about how you can and can't use the card after purchase is too late for the customer to make a knowing decision. - - - - - - - - Initial Post: - - - - - - - - For my birthday my wife got me a gift card to buy a gun at Trop's. I like (liked) the shop the counter service has been quite good, but the gift card process is a mess. The short is that gift cards only work to buy things in stock in the store. You cannot use the gift card to make an online purchase, nor can you walk into the store and order anything with the gift card. My issue has been, anything I have been looking to buy has not been on the shelf, or it is on the web store, but the Trop's web store does not take the Trop's gift card. So, I went into the store today to refund the card for cash, with a valid receipt. They refused to refund the cash. Why did they refuse, they cite "It has always been our store policy to not refund gift cards." The point then, once they have your money, you can only buy what they have on the shelf. PS: The owner (see above update) chimed into the conversation was having with the man at the counter. He was rude. His answer was, "I have over 200 of the most popular guns, I can't imagine you can't find anything you would want." Well I guess I am wrong, what I want is not what I should want. Or I can just be a difficult customer - Well I am a difficult customer now! PSS: In the past year, I have bought three guns from Trop's. There will be none coming in the near future. I am a first time gun owner. I had a lot of anxiety and trepidation about purchasing a gun. I knew what I wanted when I went in. I signed in on the iPad and waited. Didn't take long at all. The associate was knowledgeable and very nice. The gun I wanted had a special going on and he made sure I received the one they had in store instead of having to wait for the mail in rebate. (It was missing the mag holders and holster but I have contacted Springfield as suggested by the gun store. I have been in to use the range and absolutely loved it. The personnel are wonderful. Very kind and nice. I come in at least once a week now. And I sent my son in to purchase his first handgun. read more

I've been going to Trop Gun Shop for years. This store used to be smaller and located down the road until they upgraded to the current facility. The current shop is very nice. The inventory is large and staff are very helpful and knowledgeable. Trop also has a state of the art indoor shooting range that allows for many different calibers to be fired. Various firearms are available for rental including some fully automatic options that can be used in their shooting range. Trop also offers classes on different shooting topics. Memberships can be purchased for individuals or families for an annual fee. Memberships include a list of perks including use of the range and discounts. Additionally, Trop has a mailing list that you can subscribe to. Weekly, you will receive emails highlighting online discounts that you do not need a membership to take advantage of. Trop Gun Shop is an "all around" experience that will have you covered for any of your shooting needs. read more

I had a very easy experience here. Took a safety course with Tim and he was very friendly and hands on. Other associates also helped point me in the direction I needed for a number of things. I've purchased four firearms from Trops; sadly my most recent visit will be my last. The staff at the gun counter were both arrogant and rude, so much so that another customer approached me to speak about it. We ended up talking about our past experiences with rude staff members during the duration of my background check. After paying for the handgun and holster, I headed towards the range and spent 15 minutes there. I then had to wait over 10 minutes for someone to return to their post in order to check out. I was told "sorry, tough luck" when I asked why I didn't receive the free half hour range discount after purchasing a firearm. I ended up walking out with a $27 range bill on top of the $500 I spent moments beforehand. I've been a customer at Trops for several years now, and a monthly visitor at the range, and it's a shame that the customer service at Trops have declined throughout the years. Trop is usually the only store I go to when I'm in this part of PA. Their prices are the best around and most of the staff is frriendly and helpful. But they do have their pros and cons. I said most of the staff is friendly and helpful. They do have a few people who act like asking their opinion is a waste of their time. And a few of the sales folks act like they don't want to be bothered with you if you're not going to buy a gun right now, today. They don't seem to realize that you might be back tomorrow or over the weekend to make a purchase. But all-in-all, the overwhelming number of experiences I've had have been very positive. I rarely ever give five stars, and four stars is a very positive rating from me. Trop deserves four stars. One thing to note: It appears they have had to spread out their inventory at the new store to fill in empty spaces. Targets are located in about three different places. They have several displays for different items right now. But I imagine they'll get their stock more organized once they receive enough inventory to fill their new, bigger store. I'm looking forward to seeing their new indoor range. It wasn't open yet last time I was there. read more

Trop is the place I typically look first when buying both ammo and a guns if I am not shopping online. It seems to me they have good prices on firearms, though a little high now that they are getting popular. The ammo prices seem to be average. They do have a large selection of firearms and a lot to look at both in guns and store inventory! Prices there have been rising and most guns you can get cheaper online, with free shipping. Plus you avoid the sales tax in most states. The inventory other than the guns is not that cheap, but it is hard to compare because not many stores have this amount of unusual inventory. Certainly they are as reasonable as Bass Pro, etc. You likely can get the same items cheaper online if you want to wait for shipping. But that is typical of any product. If they came down perhaps 20 percent across the board on the non-gun items, I would probably buy everything here and skip shopping online. Knife prices there are not cheap at all I would not recommended purchasing a knife there. Their new indoor gun range is fantastic! My wife and I have used it, but just once. It is state-of-the-art and no other indoor range in the area is as good that I know of. As of this writing it is $10 per half hour, per person, which I find reasonable. I would not want to pay more than that. You can rent a large selection of handguns to try as well! Very cool! You can also rent a party area that is like a hunters lodge, with fireplace. It is very nice for many occasions. I have found most of the staff very friendly. Some of the gun counter people seemed rush and short tempered at times, but for whatever reason many gun counter staff people seem this way. Not sure why. I'd be happy as can be to be working around gun sales, but I have a boring desk job. Perhaps there are too many new gun owners with too many questions? and this place is very crowded, especially on weekends. My wife actually hates going in this place due to the crowds and limited parking. I can take it though. Go during the week if you can. I would also like to see a larger inventory of magazines and snap caps. It's a pain to shop for them online all the time. They have a decent inventory of holsters though, but they could have a lot more. I recommend checking out Trop as it is a really cool place with a lot of unique inventory. read more

I started going to Trop when they relocated to a larger facility, and built a new indoor range. After dealing with a ton of other places, Trop is by far the best in Central PA. The staff is fantastic in the retail shop, the selection is great, and prices are spot on. When you buy a gun here they give you free range time, also if you want to shoot here, you can either rent or bring your own guns. Prices for the range are very good too. Ammo selection is wide ranged, and overall the shop is just a great place to go to. read more

The range is nice, and they have lots of inventory. However, their prices are very steep, and in some cases just unreasonable. I would consider LanCo Tactical as an alternative for your buying needs (however LanCo doesn't have the stock that Trop has). Overall I stop in now and then, but I almost always buy my products at other stores and just use Trop's range. read more

I am working in the area, and as always I have to go find the local range or gun shop. I found Trops on a Google search. It is your run of the mill shop/range, in that the prices are always higher than online sales. They have a decent selection of weapons and accessories. I like that the gunsmith does work right on the shop floor. The staff was very friendly and eager to help or sale me something. The range is very nice! I was told i coukd shoot up to .338 i. Thw range.It is only 19 yards at its max distance, but the reclaim and filtration system iare very very good! I have returned several times and will go back for the remainder of my time up here. read more

It's a shame! I've been buying from Trop for about 10 years and always thought it was the best. However, everything changes. Trop was my 1 stop shop for all supplies and guns. Since they moved into their new location customer service, selection and price took a big hit. Their inventory has dwindled since they 1st opened and their sales help is more rude and ignorant each time I go there (which isn't much anymore). Can't tell you how many times in the last 2 years I've gone there to buy and walked out empty handed. Pretty much giving up on them! When I logged on to the Trop website this morning, I was very surprised to see some less-than-positive reviews about the quality of service a few customers said they experienced while visiting the Trop Gun Shop in Elizabethtown PA. I have had nothing less than excellent service from the folks at Trop since I first walked into their store a couple of weeks ago. As a first time gun buyer - I was looking for a store with a wide selection of handguns, highly experienced personnel, and (hopefully) an indoor shooting range where I could try out some of the guns I was interested in. Trop had all of this, and more! Everyone I spoke to at both the sales counter and indoor range were extremely professional, knowledgeable and courteous. In fact, I was so pleased with my initial experience that I returned several times over the past week to shoot a number of guns I was interested in, as well as to get the informed input and perspective from Trop's highly knowledgeable and experienced staff (At one point I think I may have inadvertently set a record for the most guns rented, and rounds shot, by a "first time" buyer within a 24 Hr. period!). And while it's true that you may have to exercise a little patience during peak hours when the staff at Trop can be quite busy - the bottom line is that Trop is a 1st CLASS OPERATION that has treated me with the utmost courtesy, professionalism and respect! I have also learned more from the folks at Trop in the past couple of weeks than I could have ever expected! They definitely live up to their motto......"Equip. Educate. Empower & Enhance"! I have absolutely NO HESITATION IN RECOMMENDING TROP to anyone interested in purchasing and/or learning about firearms from a group of folks that really know their stuff! read more

The reviews for Trop have a common theme, lack of customer service and it continues with their online ordering process as well. It's not like ordering from Amazon, there's no follow up after the order is placed unless it's initiated by the customer. From what I can tell, it's just a Trop employee taking orders from online customers and ordering from distributors and/ or other gun shops, then marking up the merchandise to cover their costs. It has nothing to do with what Trop inventories. Credit card is charged immediately when the order is placed, not when it ships, as is normal with most vendors. Order was placed 12/24/16 (stated item was inventoried online), still wasn't received by 01/03/17 and I'm still waiting ..............! Notified late 01/04/16 the item was available for pick up. Got it on the morning of 01/05/16, everything went well at the store. read more
