I have always had great experiences here , except for today. I had went to another nearby tropical since I was coming home from work & wanted 2 quesadillas , since I skipped my breakfast & was pretty hungry , I get there & they say , their machine for quesadillas is broken, I was really craving the 3 Cheese quesadilla, & was curious to try the sausage one, so I decided to order them online! so they would be ready by the time I got the my next tropical smoothie cafe , I get there & I see my order obviously happy!!! & I noticed they didn't put any chips & one girl said , it's breakfast items & I was confused because I ordered a lunch & a breakfast item, then this other lady who looked like a manager (I hope that isn't the case otherwise she needs to go to training) , she came & said that's what you ordered in a rude tone, I told her it was a mistake but i ordered 3 cheese quesadilla & the sausage one ! to try it , & she said she can't do anything about it since i order d it like that & said if i was to become aware of the mistake before they already made it , she could've done something about it , how would i have known? i also came 4 min into the store before the time said my food was going to be ready anyways, They coat the same price & i was driving , how was i able to know it was placed incorrectly or there was a mistake , very upsetting because I wanted that quesadilla that i even went to a different tropical cafe just to get it , but they did not want to help:( very disappointed in that lady with glasses and really extreme lipstick read more

I ordered via mobile order for a high school tennis team that was playing a tournament at Paul VI nearby. There were 15 students and 3 coaches so it was a large order -- 15 smoothies and 18 sandwiches. The store was busy and still the team worked hard to get our order ready ASAP. It was actually ready 10 minutes earlier than estimated in our app and everything was correct. They packed everything for me in 3 separate boxes - 1 with the sandwiches and sides individually packed and 2 boxes with the smoothies that were packed in bags with ice which kept them cold at the courts (even when it was 90 degrees outside) until the players got to enjoy them. It was so well done and so easy for me to transport back to the tennis courts. I would definitely mobile order for a team again if we are back in this location! read more

I said "it was supposed to me curbside" girl rolls eyes ... and two people say "If you want it brought out just call the store! I then responded (and I was irritated) "it doesn't say that in the app" they ask you for make and model of car) ... girl responds with the equivalent of "Whatever ....." On the evening of 9/30, I went to Tropical Smoothie Cafe in South Riding , VA and tried their new Strawberry Chia Lemonade Smoothie. After an unusually long wait, I received my drink and took it to my car. I tasted it and realized it was very sour and unbearable to drink. I returned to the store, shared my dislike of the drink, and asked if I could have it replaced. The cashier advised that would cost $6.35 for my selected replacement drink. I questioned the additional cost, especially after my feedback, and asked to speak with the manager. The manager came and offered to replace my drink for 1/2 the cost, which was still not acceptable. Then, the manager said she would add natural sugar and coconut to help offset the sour taste, free of cost. I accepted this offer, but thought this was poor customer service and unsanitary of the cafe to take my drink and re-blend it up. Now, I have a watery smoothie, with a more tolerable taste, and after effects of a heartburn. In summary, the customer service experience I received needs improvement. I highly recommend better training of its management and staff to handle and resolve customer's dissatisfaction. As long as the replacement smoothie request was of equal or lesser value, it should have been replaced free of charge. read more

Customer service sucks! But what's new you can't get good customer service nearly anywhere now a days. You have like 4-5 people working and an empty store, not one person working there greeted me. Only when I stood there for a while waiting to put in my order. With 4 ppl working shouldn't at least one person just be assigned to cash register?? Especially in an empty store? This is my go to place for smoothies. I love their smoothies. Always so cold and flavorful. Not too sweet and just the right amount of sugar. The staff here is friendly and seems to work hard. Sometimes I feel they are a bit understaffed. Parking is a bit of a pain in this shopping center sometimes. Sometimes it is easier to park in the back and walk around rather than waiting for a spot in the front. read more

Coffee smoothie and the banana almond smoothies are good ones. I wish they could do breakfast sandwiches but they don't have them on the menu. This place is brand new, which is why I didn't give it the 3 stars that I wanted to - I get that they're still working out the kinks. I went in and the register was broken and I bet I would have been waiting there forever had I not paid in exact change. Smoothie was good, but extremely thick. Had to let it thaw out for about 15 mins before I could actually try it. Staff at the register was friendly..... everyone else in the back (a bunch of high schoolers) literally just stared at me the entire time I was there. Hope management will run a tight ship here.. I greatly value good customer service and seeing as businesses can never seem to stay up and running in that shopping center, they'll need it. Pretty inconsistent. I ventured out of my usual Island Green smoothie and tried the new Watermelon Mojito flavor. The first one was so delicious. I finished it and thought about going back for another one. Then, embarrassingly enough, I got another one the next day, and then another today. The second one was not blended thoroughly and was pretty flavorless. Today's was obviously missing the mint. So disappointed since the first one was absolutely killer! I will say, the order ahead feature is super handy, and my drink has been ready every time. In regards to food, it is also hit or miss. I enjoy the Buffalo Chicken wrap, but sometimes its loaded with too much buffalo sauce, and other times it's cold. I'm a local and frequent customer but something has changed over the last few months. The vibe is off, no smiling faces, just busy, the online orders steadily flowing at 1:55 this warm afternoon. There is an older lady on the register and making smoothies while 5 teenagers are working feverishly I'm the background. The cashier lady communicated that she'd be with me momentarily and I was patient for 6 minutes. I placed my order and handed her a $20. I held my hand out for the change and she places it on the counter and scurries over to address the piled up orders. I thought "oh, this is how you treat customer!" Not even hand the $ to me so I watched her handle the register and hand the change to the following customers. What gives? Is it because I don't look her/them? Had I not readied my mouth for a sunrise sunset I would have asked for a refund. I found her to have bad energy, rudeness and unpleasant. This will probably be my last smoothie. Bad experience again. This time, its the food--Stomach cramps with the island green smoothie with less turbinado. I would avoid here. My thing is If they deliver the order to you, how can you watch them make it? You have to trust that they made your order up to par--A lot of teenagers. I didn't see any ppe on the employees or manager when looking through the front door from my car--no masks. Too late to cancel because I have already made the online order at my job. The service is always inconsistent at this particular TSC location. Part of the problem appears to be a significant turnover in staff, particularly when all of them look like they aren't even old enough to drive yet! The owner is inconsistently there, and when she is, she's never friendly or apologetic for what is sometimes, terrible service in her restaurant. I'm allergic to avocados and have been served avocados at this particular TSC more times than I have fingers on my hands, even when I specify that I'm allergic. The owner literally sat there and watched one of these encounters (she was sitting on a bar stool conversing with someone) between myself and the cashier, without so much as apologizing or offering a refund. Unacceptable! As other reviewers have noted, they are beginning to get a little greedy with their upcharges. For instance, why does it cost more to have vegetarian chicken than real chicken? Shouldn't that be a simple 1 for 1 substitution? Also, if my husband and I want to split a smoothie and ask for an extra cup, it costs money to do this. Literally anything and everything that deviates from the way it's listed on the menu costs money, but if you use the app, it doesn't. What kind of business model is this? The only reason we tend to come here is that we get coupons through the mail, from time to time. I recently wrote a bad review due to poor quality of my Sunrise Sunset Smoothie being icey and terrible and I literally go to this location every day. I was so pleasantly surprised today. I doordashed my regular smoothie and actually thought they made it wrong because the smoothie was so smooth and perfect tasting. No ice, no fruit chunks. It literally was blended so well. I went into the store in person at 7:30pm or so just to see if it would be the same perfection as earlier. They made my Sunrise Sunset Smoothie and it was once again the perfect smoothie as earlier. It was a younger man who made it. Sadly the employees do not have name tags or I would put his name. But I never noticed him working there until today and I'm very very impressed with his work ethic. The cashier lady was a bit rude and got my other smoothie wrong and remade it. When she made the other one it was the usual not blended well and icey. It is a Monday and at 7:30pm that man in the restaurant was the best worker and best smoothie maker I have ever experienced so please pass this along and let him know he is doing the most amazing job making such amazing smoothies I have ever tried at this chain restaurant. read more

We've frequented this smoothie place a dozen times over the last few years and I don't know why we keep going back. The service is continually terrible. No one is rude but they are so inefficient and have no concept of how to treat customers. It's usually young kids (late teens/early twenties) with no supervision and it's just poor service. It takes longer than it says for online orders and there can be 3 people in there but only one working on orders. I really like the smoothies but the frustration i feel every time I leave isn't worth it. I am determined to find a different smoothie place in this same area. read more

They are good. Just that. Good. Not fabulous or phenomenal. Just good. My biggest issue is the smoothie size. Sometimes I want something smaller, but on the menu they only list one side. I feel wasteful throwing half of it away and I also feel like I'm wasting my own money. Maybe there's secret smaller sizes I don't know about? I came one morning with my husband and ordered the coffee smoothie and a wrap. The wrap was a bit on the small size, but I guess I didn't really need something huge. If you are looking for a big, regular, sit down breakfast this isn't really the place. It didn't come with any sides and it was served wrapped up like a fast food place. I asked for hot sauce and they gave me a side of sriracha which was nice. The coffee smoothie made me RACE. I normally drink one cup of hot coffee and one iced coffee a day but this one single smoothie was obviously PACKED because I was SPEEDING around after drinking that. I like it for an occasional treat (I've had the strawberry smoothie and that's okay too) and the location is great but for me they're just a bit too big. I do want to go back and try the fish tacos. This particular TSC has some work to do. First, when we came in, there was trash all over the floor, right next to the garbage can. Not a great first impression. The rest of the place was pretty clean. When we gave our order, the cashier put the wrong sandwich even though my husband clarified twice what he wanted. They took an adequate amount of time to bring the order out. But we had to ask again for my orange. The guy comes out with multiple oranges and tells me to pick one. Even before COVID- the service here has always been bad. Curbside pickup is a mess and every single worker here has been rude to me. Seems that they're understaffed. I love Trop Smoothie but this almost isn't worth it. Today I had the worst experience- I called the store when I arrived after making my curbside pick up order (as it says in the sign up front). The lady who answered the phone was extremely rude and condescending and hung up on me mid sentence. She then brought my smoothie out to me and refused to come to the driver's side to hand it to me. My passenger side window doesn't go down and I tried to tell her that. She was visibly extremely irritated and rolled her eyes at me many times. Tropical Smoothie has more than just smoothies. While it has a good selection of smoothies, it also has a good selection of food. Some might consider it a fast food place, but it really isn't very fast. Time from ordering to receipt of food is longer than the typical fast food place - which can get quite long when the place is crowded. I guess it reflects that the food is made to order. I and my family like the wraps. Kids love the smoothies, especially. Everything we've had has been good. My biggest problem is that I drink the smoothies too fast and get a brain freeze ;o. read more

I've only been here for the smoothies, haven't really had much of a want for the food though they do sound appealing and smell amazing from what I've seen from other customers. The smoothies themselves are thick but is not to the point where you'd have to wait for it to thaw. This was the worst customer service I've ever experienced....went in today during lunch. There was one person in front of me ordering...The girl w the gross black septum nose ring was taking the customers order and was very rude to the old lady trying to order. Then she went to the back while I waited at the counter to order...FINALLY someone comes up to me and asks me what I want and as I'm saying what I want the girl with the nose ring came back and yelled at the girl that I was ordering from saying she can't take my order because they are too busy. I always hesitate to stop at this location. The smoothies never taste right. Today my daughter wanted a smoothie so we placed an order online since we were in the area. We were greeted by the owner who seemed annoyed she had another customer. The smoothies did not have one bit of strawberries in them. We basically received a banana smoothie with huge chunks of bananas coming up in the straw. Today was my last encounter with this tropical smoothie. My family and I frequent this place almost weekly and I agree with the complaints about the decline in the customer service. I do frequent this place in the morning. The smoothies are good however my complaints are not from the food at all, it is with one of the managers. I brought my family here for a fresh smoothie and some wraps. They forgot to make one of the items that I ordered for my 2 year old daughter. It was a cheese quesadilla which I believe for the kids is only a dollar. My wife waited at the front counter to get the item for about 10 minutes. After that she asked the manager about the item and they brought us the quesadilla. After that the manager walked to our table and told us that she didn't charge us for the item and that I needed to pay for it. Trust me, a dollar is no big deal but I feel it was their mistake and the manager had a bad attitude. This was not good customer service. I wont be taking my family here after her bad attitude. My husband and I come to this café at least once a month sometimes once a week and we order the same drink, totally green a bit modified. They have made it at least 20-25 times now with no problem. Until today, we waited 30 minutes for our smoothies, they messed it up the first try and the second try (wrong consistency). We were tired of waiting so we just asked for our money back, so the young lady working called her manager cause she didn't know how to process a refund; hands the phone to my husband, they apparently don't give refunds, and they will have to call us back to refund our drinks. The manager told us they couldn't make it they don't know how, and my husband explained that we go all there all the time and that they have made this same drink over 20 times. I spoke to the gentlemen who was attempting to make these smoothies as to what the problem was, he just stared back at me, a blank stare, and then it became apparent to my husband and I that this young man is stoned out of his mind, that was probably why they weren't able to make the drink. Nevertheless the fact that he was "high" combined with me asking what the problem was led him to freeze up, he was unable to communicate with me at all. It was very strange. So we are back home, no refund, no smoothie. Also noteworthy, the young man also messed up the 3 orders before us right when we got there and had to redo them. To top it off, while we were waiting people that ordered after us were getting their drinks. Regardless, unless we get an explanation as to why this happened no drinks no refund with a 30 minute wait we will not be going back. Say not to drugs. Train your staff to handle all situations by themselves. Perhaps the management changed or perhaps they got a new stuff either way, beware. read more
