My mother suggested I try out this avenue after continual migraines persisted. I would have preferred a Shiatsu massage or even a hot stones massages but it was to be acupuncture. Being a pin cushion wasn't as painful as you would think and Jean was kind and caring with the treatment, which cost £25. She also said that any follow up session would be a further £15 each. It's a strange and interesting process shrouded in history, we'll see what comes of it.

The first meeting with Stuart was spent talking through the symptoms and doing some initial analysis, I was surprised that during the first few treatments work was done everywhere but where the pain was, but Stuart clearly explains why and I soon started to see improvements in my mobility. After only a handful of treatments I am now back to full fitness and actually feel stronger as a result of the treatment, the stretches Stuart suggested and the knowledge shared on how the body is interlinked has been invaluable. I hope to not have to return, but would in a heartbeat and would also recommend these guys to family & friends.

Although it is much more popular on the Continent and in the States, Chiropractic is being seen more and more as a dependable alternative to conventional medicine and not so much as a complementary treatment. Especially if you find a great chiropractor who offers herbal remedies and nutritional advice as well as a reliable form of Chiropractic, which Anne French does. I have to say I was dubious when I was recommended this place. Anne practices Applied Kinesiology, a chiropractic diagnostic method using your muscle strength to determination subsequent therapy. It feels strange to have these strength experiments performed on your body part, but I cannot deny the results after being treated by her. I felt immediate relief. She also does a great job and making you feel relaxed. Sadly I haven't been back for more treatments, which is recommended as one treatment alone won't fix the problem, but this is just because of a lack of money. That being said, it's only £32 a treatment! The practice also offers Yoga, Pilates and Massage at equally competitive prices, so check out their website.

An osteopathic clinic run by the lovely and experienced Gerry Carter, I came across this place by…read morechance. I was complaining about my on-going niggling back pain just as I stumbled upon Back in Brighton. I saw it as a sign of fate and went in and booked my first appointment. And I'm glad I did. The first appointment consists of a consultation covering your aches and pains, how and when it started, and what triggers it. Gerry then assigns you a series of treatments suited to your problem (mine being very minor it was a relatively short healing process), and then proceeds with the first osteopathic treatment. I must admit I was a bit taken aback by how intense osteopathy is - the deep tissue massage isn't the kind you get at your local spa, and the 'popping' of the vertebrae - all I can say is be prepared! However, not every treatment is the same, and it does get better over time. Gerry was extremely friendly, and did everything to make me feel comfortable. He also clearly knows his stuff, and gave me plenty of advice on how to improve my posture etc in order to keep the pain at bay. His clinic is beyond clean and comfortable, and if you're lucky you'll get to meet the cutest (and well behaved) little pup, who, if my memory serves me correctly, is called Spanky! After around 6 sessions my back was fixed, and I haven't experienced any pain since, and if I do I'll be heading straight back to him. Yes, he is a little more expensive than his local competitors, however your back is not something you want to take risks with, and Gerry was worth every penny.

I can't even begin to explain how awful it was... and after about 24 hours of torture, I desperately searched for an acupuncturist. Since the only review for this place was written by someone who obviously knew nothing about acupuncture (WTF does chiropractic have to do with Chinese medicine?!) and didn't even use their services, I didn't let it deter me. Thank goodness for that! The woman running the place (I did not get her name) was very loud, and I wasn't positive she understood what I was trying to explain. It nearly caused me to leave, but I'm so, so glad I didn't. I have a lot of experience receiving acupuncture, and I know when someone knows what they're doing. And, to make a long story short, my pain was completely gone after that one session and ***has not returned***! It is a few weeks later now, and I have not had a single spasm! I cannot believe how effective this session was. She is a miracle worker! Even my very talented acupuncturist back home was impressed. If you have back pain especially, do not hesitate coming here. I would have paid triple what I did for this service. She is an amazing healer and comes with my highest recommendation.

They don't offer any actual Chiropractor work but the owner reeled off a list of other treatments that they seemed to think were all appropriate to my pains. I personally couldn't see how Acupuncture or Herbal Medicine would do any good. Seeing as though I was there though I did pick up some Green Tea, which medicinal values have calmed down even the most irate of my housemates at times

As I have visited the campus Health Centre at least once a week for the past couple of months, I feel I am in a perfect position to be reviewing their services! What can I say? The waiting room is nothing special...white plastic garden furniture isn't exactly the height of comfort and whilst I'm not normally one to comment on waiting room furnishings, the wait in this surgery can be long, so naturally, one begins to look around. In fact its a great place for people watching! This is an extremely busy place- it services many students as well as staff and faculty of the university. The staff are all lovely (except for one woman who is unfailingly rude) but they do tend to overrun quite seriously- I have at times, waited 45 minutes beyond my appointment time. I guess this is probably okay if you're a first year student with limited obligations (lets be honest!) but as a member of staff, I feel a bit guilty about popping off for over an hour just to pick up a prescription! That said, the benefit of appointments overrunning is that the staff really take their time with you- I have never been rushed out and have always been given the opportunity to discuss multiple issues- they'll give you as much time as you need. For this reason I'm giving four stars- because caring, professional staff who take a genuine interest in your health is what a doctors surgery should be all about! One star off for uncomfy plastic chairs.

The staff are really friendly and there're loads of experienced nurses on hand to deal with your typical student dramas - they are particularly trained in areas like sexual health for example. The service is a bit slow as they run morning drop ins, which most people attend instead of booked appointments. Further to that, you'll see a nurse first who'll decide whether your problem merits needing to see a doctor. This is very annoying when you know it does, and means waiting twice, even if you have pre-booked your appointment with a doctor. That's my only qualm with the place though - the nurses are all really well-trained, warm and helpful.
