As a disciplined gym pro that has visited several gyms throughout major cities, i do enjoy High…read moreAltitude Truckee as a home gym for its cleanliness and variety of workout equipment. People are very athletic here and that's encouraging. Yes sometimes the men's locker room is stinky during rush hour and its okay cuz i'll go first thing in the morning and i notice they have a nightly cleaner. Overall, the ambiance is great with appropriate background music. The only issues ever have been the dauna that broke down a couple months ago but that usually is common in high volume gyms, especially when the heater is abused. This is a tourist/transient town so im sure it's not the regulars that mistreat it. The sauna was really hot yesterday especially for its large size. I love the fact that there's a water bucket and ladle to keep the experience prime. Last Sunday sucked though because apparently they closed an hour earlier than their posted schedule. It's understandable as i do know they are looking for a new manager, says the ad they posted. I believe they'll get a solid manager soon maybe one that can help with both locations as i frequent the one in Incline way more. Thats a great location as well. Hardly ever any issues. The owners do great with both and i'm excited to see who the new manger is.

Pros: - the rack room is great…read more- good selection of new equipment - gym area is clean - cheapest gym option in truckee (but that's not saying much) Cons: - equipment/sauna repairs take forever - locker rooms not very clean/well maintained - employees consistently no-show, making the 6am opening extremely unreliable - management seems to prefer being combative with customers over trivial things rather than doing what makes sense (just put a dirty towel receptacle by the exit already) - WAY overpriced, ridiculous fees, horrible guest pass options, and arbitrary restrictions on membership benefits, even though you're paying full price (and then some) for said membership - they unapologetically jump on every opportunity they can to GOUGE you with extra fees, requirements, and irrelevant timelines to initiate/cancel, etc...and they seem almost proud to do so

Great for drop ins. Several members were friendly and said hi. One coach was a bit aloof but other…read morecoaches have been very warm and welcoming. Medium size box, medium sized classes of diverse folks of all ages. Even tho I've been crossfitting for almost 20 years, still can sometimes be intimidating showing up to a new gym as I worry about the altitude etc- this gym was welcoming. I also love that they have a "sweat" class that is more HIIT vs worrying about technical skills as much. This class, and several of the morning classes, seem to be more female than male. I'd highly recommend.

Wherever I travel, my first question is: "Where's the nearest CrossFit?"…read more That's the incredible secret perk of this fitness community: You can settle down temporarily next to a CF box pretty much anywhere in the world. As a traveler, it grounds and rejuvenates you. It's an instant intro to like-minded locals. As an avid CrossFitter, it's an opportunity to accept new challenges and learn new ways from a different CF culture. For many summers, I'd come to Truckee and drop in at CrossFit Truckee Power Lab, which was an amazing space and community. When that box closed down due to COVID, it was a big loss. When I returned to Truckee this summer, I was delighted to discover that there's a new, thriving hub for CrossFit right in the heart of Truckee. Many of the same athletes I got to know years ago at CF Truckee were now working out here! The appropriately-named Dreamtown CrossFit is an exceptional box. The owners, Jason and Andrea, have clearly poured a tremendous amount of thought, resources and love into Dreamtown. It's not a big space, but it's stocked with equipment, sparkling clean, beautifully decorated, and very intelligently designed to maximize your CrossFit experience. One thing I especially loved was the smooth metal handstand push-up / wall walk wall, with specially-installed hooks to accommodate bands for modified HSPU's. I've been to dozens of boxes, and I've never seen anything like it. I am an experienced CF athlete, and I observed something quite unique about Dreamtown: It's a perfect place to drop in if you're a veteran CrossFitter, AND it's a perfect place to drop in if you're relatively new to the sport. Here's why: (1) If you're *experienced*, Dreamtown follows Tia Toomey's PRVN programming, which, at Rx, is VERY challenging - especially if you're still getting acclimated to being at 6,000 feet of elevation. (2) If you're *relatively new* to CF, you'll find that many of the regular members at Dreamtown are very fit mountain folks - skiers, bikers, hikers, yogis - and they intuitively understand how to scale movements and set up the workout in a way that works with their fitness. This frees up the excellent coaches - Jason, Alex, Devon - to give more individualized attention to athletes that need more guidance. I spent two weeks at Dreamtown, and each day it was the highlight of my summer vacation. I can't wait to be back.
