I'm back and forth to Brady quite often. This weekend, the usual big brand hotels were sold out, so I tried the Trucountry Inn. This will be my go-to hotel in Brady from now on. Texas kitsch in terms of room names, but well appointed and a friendly, local staff. The hotel is kept in its original state/theme, especially the large bar downstairs and is a good fit for a more rural county seat. Comfy, cheap, easy and easy to miss if you're not looking. Well worth the stay if you're in Brady for the night. read more

I booked this hotel after seeing the pics and reading the reviews. I feel obligated to share our experience which was the worst I've had with a hotel. My sisters and I, in our 70s and 80 s , went to see the country festival going on . First, when we arrived, you don't have a reception area, you go to the bar. Ok, there they informed me the suite iI reserved had someone else in it but they'd put us in another one. Ok, the room was filthy. We should have left right then but the town was crowded and we figured we'd tough it out. They informed me the credit card on file was declined . I had been issued a new card which I explained and told them I'd be down to pay it. Went back down, with a housekeeper on staff and no one was around to pay. She said just catch them later . Fine. Went down again later, still no one around . They woke us up at 12:20 am to demand cash payment. This was the bar tender from downstairs. My sister informed them we'd pay first thing in the morning as we were all trying to sleep despite the very loud partying going on. The noise level was sonic boom. Next morning had to go next door to a bakery to pay . Still have not seen any hotel staff. Only bar tenders. Late that night we found the mouse droppings on the window sill. Too late to pack up and leave . Yes, should have left that first day but we feared we couldn't get a room elsewhere . Aside from that, there's only one very small mirror above the bathroom sink that you stand on a wooden block to see into it, beds are not too comfortable, first one to shower gets the hot water, and fridge isn't too cold. Definitely will never stay there again and only recommend it to partying young people who do not care about cleanliness or quiet. Oh, and smoke detectors were disconnected . Not sure how this place passed inspection. read more

This is a great little place we found to stay overnight. We were traveling through and decided to get a room and found the TruCounty Inn, and I'm glad we stayed the night. The rooms are all "themed", we were suppose to stay in the "Wild Bill & Calamity Jane" suite, but we're upgraded to the "Marilyn Monroe" suite! The hotel has a bar and pool tables and there are plenty of places to walk around the town square to eat, if you do not want to eat on the hotel. read more

Walked in and asked people working there how to get a room for the night. The waitress started yelling at some guy in the kitchen who never came out. Don't bother trying to stay here as the service is non-existent. You can't even check in. The office is locked. It's not staffed at 9PM. read more

This was by far one of the worst experiences I have had with a hotel. It was a one night stay with my wife and two small children while visiting family and friends in Brady. I arrived at approximately 8 PM and there is no separate area to check in so I had to go to the crowded bar area where it took several minutes to get anyone's attention. Once I told them I was there to check in, I did not receive any kind of real response, but several minutes later another gentleman came up to the bar with a phone and looked up my reservation. The process lacked any kind of professionalism in either dress or etiquette. Dressed in an untucked tshirt that did not identify himself with the hotel, he used vulgar language the entire time he was showing me to the room. Not directly towards me, but cussing at the dog that was walking with him and making multiple inappropriate comments; at one point asking me if I had an STD. The electrical in the room did not work properly so none of the appliances in the kitchenette worked. The bed's mattress was extremely old and uncomfortable. They had a portable heater in the bedroom that was unsafe, especially if you have small children. The hotel was hosting a party downstairs and was blaring live music until midnight and then the bar music was playing until 2 am. It was so loud you could not enjoy the TV, if it worked (it did not). I had to stay up with my 2 yr old who was frightened by all the noise, including all the drunks that were leaving after the party. There was no one downstairs the next morning to speak with and I have received no response to emails. Really unfortunate because my family is from the area and this place has a ton of potential if it were more professionally maintained and managed. read more

This place is unique and wonderful. I found it during a walkabout break on a Midland to Austin work road trip. A hotel in the 1920s, grocery store in the the 1960s, currently restored as a beautiful hotel with a very cool bar. Many historic elements remain. I can't wait to come back for a couples date with my bride (relax, shoot pool, repeat) and for a family weekend with the kiddos to enjoy all of the hill country attractions in the area. A variety of room types and a 2nd floor upstairs terrace for guests. Come and stay here before all of Austin finds out about it! read more

We reserved a room at this hotel many weeks ago and I talked to the owner/manager at least 3 times about our reservation - the last time about 2 weeks ago. After flying across the country and then driving 2+ hours to get there, we were told upon our arrival that the room was " unavailable" without any explanation. This is a small town and we had to find whatever accommodation we could. We were looking forward to staying there but when you can't rely on the reservation, it's not okay to be left stranded in the early evening! Well i have been staying at this hotel for the past week waiting on my apartment and i can honestly say, i love this hotel. The history is great and every room has its own theme and its own story. We booked last minute for a stay due to our daughter being in a basketball tournament in Brady. I called for a late check and mentioned the tournament. When we got to our room(originally a one bed suite, we planned for out daughter to sleep on the floor) the owner had moved a bed into the room. This was the sweetest and most considerate thing she could have done. My daughter got a great night sleep all because of her caring about her customers. We will definitely staying here again. read more

This place is a joke! Booked here thinking it was going to be a nice stay. Pictures looked welcoming and reviews were ok. Except when we showed up and entered the hotel it was so hot in the hotel the lady at the front desk had no idea what she was doing. Couldn't check us in and had to call the owner of the place. So while trying getting ahold of the owner she took us into our room. Told me to come back down after 10 min. So she could check us in. Walked into our room and it was probably 100+ degrees in there. Knowing the room was going to have guests and didnt even have the A/c turned on. Of course it was just one small window unit! Ugghh. So generally it's going to take a while to cool down. Room was not at all what pictures looked like. Dirty dishes, bathroom had left over shampoo and body soap in it! So we unpack and we decide to go back downstairs to deal with checking in and when we tried to lock our door we could not! We go downstairs and let the lady know we can not lock our door and she says ok, I have to call another lady to come check us in and find out how to lock the door!! We ended up waiting over 30 min for noone to show! She then calls owner back, and owner is going step by step with her how to get us checked in. We booked this hotel online and had already booked the room for a set price, then owner tells us he have to pay more! We ended up having to negotiate just to stay. Worst experience with hotel service I have ever had! If you have kids(which I do) do not stay here! read more
