They then had someone on their hands who was not working for them and not banking with them and refused to do anything to remove the hard inquiry. I have to ask why do a hard inquiry at all? I wasn't applying for credit and I hadn't agreed that I would be banking with them. It was wrong of them to not make it known with me that they would be doing the hard inquiry and they need to re-evaluate their practices. They also need to work harder to try and fix their mistakes in moments like this.

Stated simply: Chelsea State Bank is a phenomenal small-town local bank (yes, yes, I know, Chelsea…read moreis a "city" now). Here is why: 1) The tellers in both of the Chelsea locations are very personable and tend to remember your face/name. It definitely has that small town feeling. 2) The fee structure is extremely lenient/minimal, and readily comprehensible (it is easy to avoid getting hit with fees). 3) CSB has far less paperwork than I've been given at other banks. Also, there was only one page of hardcore legalese. Most of it was refreshingly easy to understand (without a legal degree). I can't speak for the Dexter location (I think they have a Dexter location...), as I haven't been there (though I would expect much the same since Chelsea and Dexter are two peas in a pod). I have used both of their Chelsea locations. I prefer the downtown one because it has a more welcoming, small-bank feeling - but they are both good :) The only real downsides are that the CSB locations are only in the Chelsea/Dexter area and the "downtown" location can be a little difficult to get in and out of (very dense traffic) - not too difficult though, since the residents of the sprawling metropolis of Chelsea *cough cough* will usually be friendly about letting you in. The other Chelsea location (which is right down the street from the downtown one) is very easy to get in and out of and has plenty of parking. In summary: It is very, very hard to find honest, genuinely customer-service-oriented banks in this day and age of big-business banking. Chelsea State Bank is one such bank. I use them. I've had a number of friends who have used them. I'm sure there are horror stories out there somewhere (every place seems to have them), but I have yet to have (or hear of) an even remotely negative experience with Chelsea State Bank.
