Loaded baked potato at Bernheim's ColorFest
    Emily H.

True North Catering knows how to make delicious food. I got to try it again most recently at Bernheim Forest's ColorFest. True North was set up in a booth with its business BFF, Baked. (Be sure to look up Baked as well -- amazing sweets and treats!) And from True North, I got a loaded baked potato, which came with shredded chicken, barbecue sauce and sour cream on top. And this thing was LOADED! It was more than enough for a meal. My husband had to help me finish it. I loved the fact that this came with protein on top of the potato -- something more people should do. In many ways, True North is super creative. Chef Carlie seems to specialize in Southern specialties, but she can do high-end as well as more casual, including boxed lunches. True North should not be overlooked -- whether you come across it at a festival or need something more extensive for an event.

Are you looking for a safe way to have food at a private group gathering? Check out True North Catering & I guarantee your guests will adore it! I had the pleasure of experiencing one of their charcuterie boxes during a socially distant small event at Trouble Bar with the Bourbon Women Association. The boxes included several small cheese portions, fruits, crackers, spreads & a bourbon ball. The pairings were interesting, tasty, & perfectly portioned. This is a short review because it's straight to the point...they will make your gathering fantastic!

Carlie won the Best Appetizer at the 12th Annual Desserts First event on February 28!

Carlie is an exceptional young chef who entered the Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana Desserts First event in the appetizer category and WON!! We have since had her do some catering for us and will continue to throw business her way.

Accidentally took the pic after the cup of pimento cheese had been moved

My friend ordered a charcuterie box from here for a girls' night out and it was wonderful! Everyone loved it and it was so lovely to look at, too. I really appreciate how they put a little bit of a different spin on their box by adding in things like the pimento cheese and a homemade dessert (rotating weekly) in each box. Our dessert was an oatmeal cream pie and it was great. I just really liked the assortment of items in this box and how each item seemed to complement the flavors of the other items in the box. Would definitely order again!

Long review- I wanted to do something special for my mother. She loves watching cooking shows, but has trouble walking and isn't the most adventurous eater. We've been to all the nice restaurants in Lexington that aren't too "weird". During my search for someplace new, I stubbled on the BlueHen Chefs' Yelp page. I was a little hesitant to talk to them, but scheduled a call anyway. They are fantastic! Soooo, easy to talk to and they LISTENED to what I wanted. The whole list of what my mom doesn't like, lol, and the bucket list dishes she wanted to try. They sent me a sample menu that looked good and I tweaked it a bit and added more courses. The result was a once in a lifetime meal for Mother's Day. Every dish was better than the one before it! I travel a lot and have tried many, many different things. I was blown away by how good everything was. We had a very eclectic menu that I thought would be challenging, but they had no problem. I can say that their crab cakes were better than I've had in Baltimore, their lobster risotto was better than Gordon Ramsey Steak, and their key lime pie was better than in the Florida Keys! The portion sizes were just right, too. Overall, I couldn't be any happier that I took the first step and talked to them. I can't express enough how good the food was and how comfortable they are to have in your home. They made my mother feel like a queen for a day. P.S. They bring a TON of things with them, all very organized. It's impressive. After the meal they clean up and leave your kitchen spotless. You also get all the leftovers and remaining ingredients. Have containers ready.

For anyone in search of a catering company for any event please do NOT hire Comfort Eats & More…read morebased out of Louisville. They catered our wedding in October and it was AWFUL. The quality was atrocious, meat was overcooked and barely edible and they outright ignored food allergies they specifically agreed to take precautions for (and it was even in our contract). I have waited to share my experience because I was trying to find a resolution with the business but they have ignored all attempts to make this right and even ignored the Better Business Bureau's attempts to mediate. For anyone interested, I will post more details below: We hired Kendell Sheppard, chef and owner of Comfort Eats & More to cater our wedding on 10/16/2023. We paid for a serviced buffet for 75 people. We also had a clause added to our contract stating he would prepare a separate meal without garlic for my (the bride's) father with a garlic allergy and a separate meal for our groomsman who has several deadly allergies. For our groomsman we specifically added the allergens he was allergic to and asked that the meal be prepared in a separate space with separate utensils to ensure no cross-contamination. We not only spoke with Kendell about these concerns at our initial food tasting but also ensured it was added to the contract. Kendell assured us verbally, through the contact, and via email that he would take full precautions. However, on our wedding day, Kendell not only neglected to have a separate plate at all for our groomsman but actually served him food blatantly containing one of the specified allergens (a salad with a bourbon glaze- when we specified his wheat allergy) and he only realized his mistake when our groomsman pressed him for details on the contents of the salad before agreeing to eat it. Kendell, by his own admission, said it would be safer for our groomsman to not eat the food because he had not taken precautions and could not ensure it was safe for him to eat despite our contractual agreement. Additionally, he provided my father with only a partial meal prepared without garlic leaving out half of the options from the buffet. Lastly, the meat options that were served to the rest of the guests were horribly overcooked, tough, and dry. Which led most of our guest unable to eat the meal we paid for them to have. Kendell not only severely endangered the life of our groomsman by ignoring our contractual agreement but also underserved my father at his daughter's wedding and served poor quality food to the rest of the guests. We emailed Kendell following our wedding on 10/21/23 to express our concerns and the breach of contract and that we expected a refund. When we had not received a response we sent a follow up email on 10/27/23 stating that if we did not receive a reply by 11/01/23 that we would be submitting a formal complaint to the BBB. Kendell responded that day stating the maximum refund he could offer was a "15% managers compensation refund" and if this was not satisfactory that we could "explore mediation as an option" and to let him know our thoughts. We responded on 11/01/23 stating that we felt the disregard for safety in addition to the poor quality of the service delivered was worth more than the 15% he offered and would accept a minimum of a 50% refund. Kendell has not responded as of 11/15/23 and ignored all attempts by the Better Business Bureau to mediate this situation. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY.

We were very pleased to have been seated at the bar, I do not think it would have been as an immersive an experience if we had we been at a table where you could not see the chef as he prepared our 4 course meal. Upon arrival you are seated and given a cocktail menu (not included in the cost of the meal). My hubby had a very strong bourbon and water and I had a cream, liquor, vodka drink that was very tasty, similar to a White Russian. At around 6 pm chef Todd began by telling us his history and passion for cooking inspired by his grandmothers as he prepared our appetizers. I am a bit fuzzy on the details of the ingredients of all the dishes since I fell later that evening, broke my hip and shoulder and spent the next 6 days in the hospital but I'll do my best, keeping in mind all 4 courses were expectional. Appetizer was a baked pear with goat cheese and a crostini with cranberry goat cheese, walnuts and honey drizzle. Second course was a bean soup and corn bread. Main course was pot roast, carrots, potatoes and mushrooms. Mine was super tender and very flavorful. Mu husbands portion had a lot of fat but what he could eat was tasty. And for dessert he served bananas foster bread pudding. We were given a sample of the bread pudding upon arrival to whet our appetites and it sure did. The whole experience was first class; food, service, cocktails, interaction with the chef, owner and wait staff, atmosphere was just plain fun, entertaining and satisfying. We were there about 2 hours. Street parking, comfortable setting and a unique dinning experience. I highly recommend for a special occasion.
