Had an AWESOME experience over the weekend shooting the rapids down the Menominee River in the Michigan Upper Peninsula with the crew from True North Outpost. They are on the Route 2 curve near the Wisconsin/Michigan state line. Really impressive & reasonable retail & outdoor accessories as well as bike & kayak rentals. The excursion packages look amazing and the family loved the indoor rock climbing. We flew back to Iron Mountain to visit friends and family for the 4th and decided we would do some adventuring we had never done growing up around the area. One of them was rafting down Piers Gorge. We have walked the trail many times but never took the plunge through the river itself. Family members suggested we try out True North Outpost. It was well organized, instructions were given out clear and concise. Our river guide Joe Christiansen was amazing too! You could tell he was so passionate about his job, was about cleaning and maintaining the water way and very knowledgeable on everything from water levels, different pieces of the river, the wildlife that was there and everything in between. We visited in July we a team of eager 8th graders from Viroqua on a class trip. Rafting was one of the big adventures that we had planned and it was great. Our guides JOE and FREDDY were fantastic teachers and made everyone feel comfortable in every situation we paddled through. At a more recent 8th grade graduation, a number of the kids mentioned the rafting adventure as a highlight of their school year as well as their K-8 best memories. When we returned back to the Outpost, I got a ton of very useful info on mountain biking in the area from EVAN and had several great rides over the next couple of days. This place is AWESOME!!!! Every single member of the staff were AWESOME. You get there and you know you are with a group of people who LOVE what they are doing! Our guide Amy was so awesome with our crew and had such a good time. We are already planning to come back for Memorial weekend and will be requesting Amy again. This is truly such an awesome time. I could not believe how affordable the 3 hour boat ride was. True North Outpost is so cool inside. I love their merchandise and gear they sell on site. Had an absolutely epic time! Evan was super helpful in answering all of my questions pre-trip and accommodating to get my crew out on the water in October! the trees were stunning and the rapids were so fun!! Nate was a fantastic guide with loads of experience and a good sense of humour. Would definitely recommend not only a white water rafting trip, but paying a visit to their bouldering wall as well! Went here for my first trip whitewater rafting. The entire team was fantastic! My group had Ali as our guide and she was a blast! The other guides, Phee, Denver, and Luke, were just as great. All four guides were constantly cracking jokes with us whether we were in their raft or not. The guides even had Go-Pros to video our trip through the rapids. Kevin, the photographer, took some amazing photos. And we certainly can't forget Roger the fantastic bus driver! Well worth every penny and I hope to go again soon! read more

Fantastic company the guides and staff were all very friendly the rafting was really fun i love that they make it so u go thru the rapids twice they were super accommodating. My fiance and I wanted to go kayaking after the rafting they recommended a great place to eat and when we got back they took us and our kayaks out to the drop off and gave us a map and a phone number to call when we were finished it was wonderful. We purchased a white water rafting trip for our kids and grandkids as a Christmas gift because we wanted to get them not just a gift but an adventure. We decided to join them and had an awesome trip down the river. Our guides Fi, Jeff, and Zane were amazing. They were so informative about the river and the whitewater and their commentary added so much fun to our trip. Visiting from Arizona, some family recommended this company. It was my first time ever doing something like this so I was a bit nervous. The short bus ride there, the instructor/tour guide went over instructions and information that made me feel comfortable right off the bat! Once we were in the raft we went over more rules/information and instructions. That was actually fun as well! I would highly recommend the guide Joe- he was awesome!!
