It's a perfect mix of professionalism, kindness, and hospitality, along with a true respect and adherence to traditional tattooing values. They still take walk ins regularly, even though most of the artists book out the majority of their schedules in advance. They have artists that cover every style of tattooing, but specialize in bold, American Traditional and Japanese tattooing that will last for a lifetime. If you're looking for a shop in the area, just go to True West, and you'll keep coming back.

We had the best experience at this shop. My long time friend came into town for a girls trip. Her husband and I surprised her with a tattoo appointment to get something she's wanted for a while. I was able to get an appointment the next day after being in contact with the shop. Matty did my tattoo. He was very upbeat and he was sympathetic with me wanting my pups paw prints on my calf. Couldn't have asked for a better artist. Shop is clean and has an older type vibe. Loved it. I highly recommend this shop. And I want to thank Matty for doing an awesome job. read more

I can't say enough good things about True West Tattoo and especially about Lisa! My partner and I came in for a last-minute walk-in, and Lisa was so accommodating. This was my very first tattoo, and I was honestly really nervous, but Lisa made the whole experience so much easier. She was kind, compassionate, and patient with me, which I truly appreciated. On top of that, her line work is incredible--I feel so grateful that she's the one who did my very first tattoo. The shop itself is also amazing. I've been to other tattoo shops where the vibes felt off, but True West was the total opposite--friendly, professional, and welcoming from the moment we walked in. I left not only loving my tattoo but also feeling like I had such a positive first-time experience. Avoid this pretentious place at all costs! I got a small tattoo and it got totally infected and burned for weeks. I tried talking to them about it and they were super rude and dismissive. Please do yourself a favor and get your taboo somewhere else! read more

Had a few hours to burn in San Luis, and sought out a clean shop with a solid portfolio online. Found these guys and stopped in. I liked the work by Luis that I saw, and his skills fit what I was looking for. I was happy to have him work on a peice for me. I've been tattooed by a lot of people and the crew at True west are true professionals and top notch artists, Eric is working on my back currently and is doing an amazing job, he hires only the best crew to work in the shop. No ones books are ever closed they will do what ever they can to fit you in as soon as possible, walk ins are always welcome, they can do most any style you're looking for, from American traditional to Japanese, to black and grey they have you covered. Did a lot of research for local tattoo shops and found the artist from True West to have a lot of truly amazing work from what i saw on social media. I chose Lisa to do a piece on my forearm that had a lot of personal meaning, and she knocked it out of the park! Crisp lines, bold color, and just overall perfection in my opinion. Everyone at the shop was friendly and welcoming....especially the owner Eric, who had us all cracking up as he tattooed another guy. Highly recommend the shop and Lisa! read more

I went in for a consultation and Chris took a good amount of time to speak to me about all of my questions, gave an estimate, and was super chill which helped calm my nerves. I scheduled an appointment for a couple days later. I was nervous but he put me at ease during the consultation as well as during the entire process. This is by far the nicest shop on the Central Coast! While Eric tattoos me personally, I have seen the other artist work and there is not one tattoo style that cannot be accomplished at this shop. The shop itself is upstairs, but from the moment you open the door downstairs to walk up, you are seeing hand painted signs that lead you to the entrance of the shop. Once you get in the shop the counter tops are wood that are burned with the shop name and stained and there is art EVERYWHERE! Not just tattoo flash but art. Visually, it a site to take in. The stations are nice. They are not super close to each others and they are all clean and uniform (pardon my OCD). I will, for sure, be back here. Great Addition to the Community. Just remember: Good tattoos are not cheap, and cheap tattoos are not good! read more

Eric Jones has been co-owner of Port City Tattoo, Costa Mesa, since 2014. Beginning his career in 1997, Eric has travelled the world, working in different parts of the US and Europe. It took a bit to get an appointment because she's that awesome and yes, that busy. So, plan ahead. Think about your activity and the weather. I was traveling in December and knew I didn't want to focus on new brow care while traveling. Summer wasn't good me for either because ....sun! I arrived on time and Michelle was waiting in the shop. A nice shop she shares with her husband who's also a local tattoo artist. Soon to be in her own new joint though... I've heard. First off is paperwork. It's fast, legal eagle stuff. She takes some time to explain the process. Then it's lie down and left the drawing begin. She drew out a shape she felt matched my face shape etc. She will show you so you can say yay or nay. I said yay. Then it's down to business. First a topical pain cream so you don't feel much. She goes over each brow three times with color. I did not see the tool used but it lays color onto brows, and into the skin. These are my layman's terms! It was pain free for me (except for the plucking part, which I find funny). You can hear skin pulling or scratching as she moves along. I felt very little pain during the process and even later in the day just a little pain was present. The end result was soooo worth the time and investment in myself. I go back soon for my 6 week touch up. People definitely noticed the change and many are asking for her information. He decided he wanted to draw it on, rather than using the flash, so it would fit the spot we were putting it in better. From start to finish it took a little over an hour. Woods was so nice and professional. The other two guys there were helping other customers as they came in. Also super nice and helpful. The shop is beautiful, with tons of natural lighting. This is by far one of the best shops I've been to in the many years I've been getting tattooed. 100% plan on making my way from the bay to get another tattoo from the guys here again.

I understand everyone makes mistakes but she shouldn't have let me walk out seeing how crooked it was. First, she toned it to smurf blue, offered to wash it out, apologized that she didn't understand what I wanted because she mixed my wishes up with all of her other new clients and offered to book an appt to fix it three days later if I paid her. Not surprisingly she then tried to change the time, the day and ultimately cancelled on me because she was sick and told me if I wanted to book a new appt, because she was no longer saying she was fixing it, now it was my poor communication, it would cost me 350 dollars. I have heard other people say bait and switch and that is exactly what I felt.

She was very kind, professional, and you could tell right away that she has been in the game along time! I wanted star dust behind my ear. I showed her 2 photos and she got to work right away. Within 10 minutes she had my simple design sketched up and ready to go. Her work was fast, clean, and pretty much perfect. My tattoo turned out better than I could have ever dreamed! Eric was very professional and the shop was beyond my expectation. Fantastic art everywhere and a willingness to work with the client on any design large or small. I was also pleasantly surprised with the fundraiser they are doing February 14-17th for Stand Strong-Women's Shelter.
