As a Sainsbury's cafe the food is great - I'm maybe biased as I think Sainsbury's are the best UK supermarket and I love their food. There's a full range of hot main meals, children's menu, scones, cakes, coffees and drinks on offer. Even better there are great vegetarian options and each meals calorie content is displayed clearly on the menu. The coffee's good, staff are helpful and it's a great place to rest weary legs during shopping trips. Best place to stop in Forestside Shopping Centre for rest and refuelling. I popped in today before picking up my weekly groceries and had a delicious open top mushroom pie with mash potato, peas and gravy. Delicious. This and a bottle of water only set me back about £5 and 700 calories, plus saved me cooking a Sunday dinner. Brilliant!

Before I go further my advisor is correct. The coffee is fairly priced and tastes really wonderful. The complex flavour notes in this coffee puts the chain Costa and Starbucks of this world into the shadows and the portion sizes are generous too. Now there's a Facebook connection here. I don't have Fbook. I'm not on Fbook, if that's the right term. I'm sure it has uses but I'll never be on it willingly. I won't voluntarily become a product for Mr Sorryburg to utilise and profit from. His recent appearance at the US senate was emetic; he was more Teflon and evasive than the dishonest politicians questioning him. We truly are in a post truth age. Anyway the Fbook connection was free shortbread on Mondays with any two coffees, according to one of my enthusiastic companions. So we were given a hearty welcome and we ordered 4 coffees including my flat white and we sat down. The friendly lady said she'd bring the coffees to us. While I was standing at the counter I'd noticed that these shortbreads were the size of side plates. It took a little while for the coffees to arrive, and we had begun to be impatient as we were surrounded by people enjoying their coffee and food. When the coffees arrived I was delighted at the generous portions. Now you know the way you feel there's something amiss but you aren't quite sure what it is? Well after a minute one of our group said 'no shortbread'. The penny dropped. So our enthusiastic human Fbook product rechecked the situation and repeated the deal aloud - free shortbread with any two coffees on a Monday. So evidence in hand our companion left for the counter to return with two mega shortbread. These were as good and buttery and crumbly and tasty as I'd been told. But, isn't there always a but; the deal was a Monday evening deal and it was about 2pm! Oops. Always read the small print. Anyway the uber lovely staff saw the funny side and provided two giant shortbreads free with a smile. Now that's the right way to run a business; the art of retail: selling goods that don't come back to customers who do. We hope to return.

But Springteens appears to be making its living charging me more than the cost of a small car for what could only be described as a very average steak! If I pay close to £20 for a steak in an 'American style diner' I want Buddy Holly dug up and singing songs in the booth next to me. On top of the disappointing food, they haven't really even made a fair attempt to kit out the restaurant in the fashion of an American Diner. It looks like a public hall hosting a bad play version of Happy Days. Save yourself some time and a lot of money; go to one of the 6/7 restaurants on the same road. I'm not saying they are all better; but they can't be worse!

I have heard some rumbling of some of the southern stores going into administration and I've also read about a few of their branches being closed because they failed health and safety inspections. O'Briens idea of a sandwich is to throw a flimsy piece of ham between barely there low quality white squishy bread, lob on a bit of coleslaw and then throw some hunky dorys on the side. There is such a great choice of other sandwich shops in Belfast, I fail to see why anyone would opt for sub-par food in O'Briens.

It was a bit later in the evening, and Patrick expertly advised me to have a ciabatta instead of the demi baguette I had initially chose (an issue of freshness). I found that to be very refreshing, that this guy actually cared for about our dining experience. I'm not a sandwich having kind of guy usually, but the service was first class and the food was quite good too, I may call again. If I do, it will be thanks to Patrick and the staff!

The staff are attentive yet there is also a casual laid back feeling to SubUrban Café which makes it the perfect setting for a relaxing breakfast. The baristas made an excellent flat white - not an easy skill. With outside seating I can the SubUrban Cafe this becoming a hot spot in the summer months.

They offer all other usual breakfast options you would expect, is close to several shops if you want to gets some bits and bobs and there is a bank machine literally attached to the café which is handy...! As a resident of Ballyholme and dog-walker I also like how they usually have two dog bowls of water out the front of the shop as the area is heaving with fellow walkers due to its proximity to the beach... Soup was cauliflower and black truffle. We were a bit unsure so the waiter gave us a taster to see if we liked it. It was absolutely gorgeous! Every course was cooked to perfection and thoroughly enjoyed!! The staff were very nice and not at all pushy - the perfect hosts! We will definitely be back to treat ourselves again!

I opted for their north west Atlantic cold water prawns on white bread with rocket and mild South African Peppadew piquantè peppers. So I'll just deviate here a moment: there are factory made products that are world-class like Colman's English mustard. M&S cashew butter. Any sardines tinned in Portugal. John West tinned sockeye red salmon. Mars bars. So it is with peppadew fruit. The mild variety is sweet because sugar is added in the pickling process. I find it's mild heat of around 1200 SHU on the Scoville scale just perfect. Heck I can even make a sweet & sour sauce from the pickled liquid with some added sugar. Peppadew also have a hot pepper. It is. So back to this diner. I was disappointed at the miserable amounts of prawns, rocket and Peppadew. It's a pity as the sandwich could and should have been great and not many of these diners offer these delicious prawns. The cappuccino was a generous portion and tasty. Staff friendly.

The food is a little pricey if you are just looking for a casual snack with prices ranging around £8/9. With is always a bit to much, particularly for a sandwich! The food is very nice though, and if you have the money then by all means go and enjoy what they have to offer! If you're not after any nosh and just fancy a drink I would recommend just going to the Duke of York a few metres away.
