We went to Teotihuacán which was about a 45 minute drive. During the drive, Leo gave us a quick history lesson about the pyramids and the different gods. It's a quick prep to the tour once you get to the sites. (Just a friendly reminder, wear sunblock! I forgot and my shoulders are still burning haha). After the tour, which you will learn SO much, Leo took us to a small shop where you learn more about tools that were used back in the day, a quick mezcal tasting, then shopping. Lastly, we dropped by and had a meal at one of the little restaurants nearby. Our second tour with Leo was to Coyoacán, Frida's Casa Azul, and Xochimilco. This was so fun! Tickets to the Frida museum aren't included, but Leo will still give you some history about Frida and her life (would hate to ruin it for you, but she had a very sad life and Diego ain't shit lmao). After the museum, Leo picked us up and we headed to the embarcadero to get on our trajinera. This was the best part! Leo comes prepared to make it a good time! He has a great speaker and you can DJ what you want to listen to, but is also respectful if you want to hire some of the musicians that pull up. All in all, if you can, book all tours with Leo! You will not be disappointed! He's very professional, accommodating, great sense of humor, knowledgeable, and his English is great. Anna was working the afternoon in front of the Burger King store, on Tuesday June 2, 2026 (I think it was on the Calzada de Guadalupe). Anna was so attentive, patient with my not so good spanish (which I am working on for when I return to Mexico!), professional, and so very kind. She helped us, and explained the Turibus routes. We both used google translate to communicate. Anna was one of the most friendliest people we met on our entire trip. We were on the Turibus the next day and did the Historical and Palanco Cirsuit. We wanted to do the Basilica Circuit to see if Anna was working to thank her again for all her help. Turibus is so fortunate to have an amazing and kind person as Anna in their company. Give this lady a prize and a raise for her amazing service!!! THANK YOU ANNA!!!! Now for the tour itself. We did the tour in Mexico City June 3, 2026. Great to see Mexico City, especially if you don't have a lot of time. We bought our tickets for 400 MX pesos each, at the stand in the Historical Centre for a one day pass. They give you headphones and a map. Don't forget to bring water, snacks, a small towel, hat, and go to the bathroom before you go, because one circuit can take almost 2 hours. We did the Historical and Palanco circuit. The only thing was sometimes the descriptions of the area would cut off mid sentence, leaving you wondering what the rest of the story was. Depending on where you sit sometimes the connection to the audio on bus did not work. But no worries we just changed seats. Buses were clean. The day we went was hot, so if you are wearing shorts the seats on the top can get hot! But just give it some time to cool down. Bring a towel or sheet to cover the hot seat and you are good to go! Overall, super fun tour to get to see the city. We did not have enough time to do all four circuits in one day, so maybe consider buying a 48 hour pass. Also note tours end at 7 pm. And depending where you are you could be dropped off mid circuit. So plan your time accordingly. This was explained very well by Anna (see above). She was amazing!!! Also note is you are not fluent in Mexican spanish, which has some differences from other spanish dialects, bring your phone to translate or do some research on the tours before you go. We ended up getting our tickets and bracelets to get us on and off the bus. We decided to do the red line (Centro Historico) and yellow line (Polanco) within the allotted time. I liked the red line since it had plenty of stops and nice photo opps. The yellow line also had some nice stops on it, but the action seemed to be with the red line. The staff at the stop we were at, Monumento a la Independencia (Angel) made sure we went to the proper location for the bus. Seeing our limited Spanish speaking abilities, they were able to explain this in English. That was nice of them to do, ensuring that we all were in the right spots. Timing was listed as every 10 to 15 minutes for the frequency of buses, which was correct (aside from unpredictable traffic). Announcements were made for the approximate length of the tour, with extra time needing to be taken to account for traffic. I liked that they had the option of which language to give background information at each stop, but I would've wanted more detail and in depth explanations. They provided headphones with 10 options for language, volume control, and USB/USB-C plugs. Just be careful if you ride on the top and when it's hot out, because it gets pretty warm and you may run the risk of your phone overheating. When we were on the yellow line, the driver gave some extra tidbits of information, but seemed that he only explained in Spanish. Note: if you're on the top part of the bus/open air area, make sure to be careful since it is full of trees and you could easily get smacked by leaves or branches if you're not careful. We stopped during part of the red line route to grab a bite to eat, and when we were attempting to get on the green line transfer, were informed that due to our time (about 5:30pm) we would only make it for one of the stops, since the closing time for the bus tour is 7pm (open 9am). All in all good value if you want to see the city in limited time and for a good overview of the sights.

I emailed the blogger, Alice, if she operates any food tours in Puebla. She responded back to the e-mail saying she can organize a 4-hour tour of the city including the best Pueblan foods. I could have done the trip alone, but to ensure I get more of the time I was there, I decided it was a good idea to hire a local guide. I took an Estrella Roja bus from the Mexico City at 7:20 am to Puebla arriving at around 10 am. I took an Uber to the cathedral and met my guide Alejandra at 10:30 am. It was just me and the guide so it was great that I was able to modify the tour as I wished. She asked if I was hungry and I told her that I didn't have breakfast yet so she took me to a stand to try a melote and pelona -- two Pueblan foods I've never heard of before! We then headed to Rosary Chapel, a place that blew me away. Photos of the chapel do not capture how beautiful this place looks in person. A sight to see while you are in Puebla for sure. My guide, Alejandra, gave me talk of the history of the chapel and pointed out things that I wouldn't have noticed on my own. We then walked over to get a sample of the local sweets and also she took me to the back to view a talavera workshop where I learned more about the process of making this local handcrafted ceramic work of art. We then walked over to look at a "parian," a local market. After a walk through the market, she took me to try totopo and a chalupa con mole. After that tasting, we ate again. She took me to try tacos arabes. My first time trying this as well and it was exciting to try. Alejandra mentioned that the al pastor tacos were great as well, so I wanted to sample that next. Next, we visited Biblioteca Palafoxiana, a UNESCO World Heritage site where Alejandra talked about the library and its history. Next were my favorite cemitas, something I am always seeking out in Los Angeles. I had so many delicious things to eat, but this was probably my most favorite! To end the trip, Alejandra took me to try "pasita" which was another local drink I've never heard of before. It was a family owned bar established in 1916. The bar didn't have set hours, so we were lucky that it was opened when we arrived. To end the tour she took me to the most colorful street to take a photo. I don't know if I could have found this on my own. If you want to see the best of Puebla, I highly recommended taking a tour with Soy Poblana. I felt that so much was packed into my short visit to Puebla. I also got to taste the best of the city from a local's perspective. My local guide was born and raised in Puebla and knows all the local spots for great Pueblan food. Sure, I could have done this trip on my own, but the experience would not be the same as having a local show you around.

She was paired with a car and driver. She asked me what I would like to do and what I wanted to see. I asked her to show me around the local area because it was my first visit. Veronica was super attentive and wanted to know if I prefer to walk or ride in the car, do I need water etc. She was extremely knowledgable about the area and showed me many interesting places near to my hotel. Due to Covid we were restricted from visiting Museums of the inside of most buildings but I got a wonderful overview of the area and know exactly where I would like to visit again if I return to Mexico City. We were fortunate to have Alan (English guide) and Alex (Spanish guide), and our driver was Francisco. Alan was an excellent guide; his emphatic and impassioned presentation style was filled with a great many historical and informational items, and both his accent and annunciation made it very easy to follow. Although I recommend this tour, there were a few drawbacks as well. First, I wish we had not bought the lunch to be included. Although the restaurant itself was a very nice space, and included entertainment, the ($31-$33) buffet was lackluster at best. Yes, plenty of choices, plenty of food, but none of it exceptional, or really very good either (street vendor food would have been better). The challenge, however, is that there is NOT another place to buy food (the bus takes you to their; the tour's, partner restaurant so that it is the only place to eat. Some of the other menu items were likely tastier than the buffet. Adjoining the restaurant (behind it) is an area where you "learn" about obsidian, types of tequila & Mezcal, silver, and local hand-crafts. The "presentations" are fun (enough), but yes, this is a stop where they hope you will buy items. For many, this is an opportunity to buy souvenirs, but my wife and I found that this greatly cut into the time we would have much rather spent exploring Teotihuacan. Overall the pacing of the Tour was well planned out. Traffic in/around Mexico City is NOTHING like you have ever experienced before, so it's nearly impossible for the Tour to always go 100% as planned. My advice is to bring patience, things for comfort (bottled water, sun screen, rain jacket, etc.), as it was a 10 hour (yes TEN HOUR) Excursion. We were in good hands with Amigo Tours with this one, but the next day (also with Amigo), we had a very different and not as good Tour elsewhere. Out of five stars, I'd rate this tour at a solid 3.5.

I laughed and said…read moreI've lived for quite a while in New York and Miami, so if I can handle the NY Subway and Metrorail, I wouldn't die on the Mexico City subway. If all else fails, I'm taking kickboxing at my gym. Like any subway anywhere in the world, put your wallet in your front pocket, and slide your watch up inside your sleeve. The system is very efficient and much better than expected, especially given the hotel concierge's look of horror and verbal warning. Stations are generally everywhere you might want to go. Almost all stations I used were clean, modern and efficient. Outside of rush hour, it is a very pleasant experience. Every now and then you felt a little too alone in the station, and maybe would appreciate a few more police. By large city standards, the system was remarkably short on police personnel. Mexico City by some counts is the biggest city in the world, so expect a huge flood of people during rush hour. The subway is generally a faster option than any form of surface transportation. Large swaths of Mexico City suffer from chronic gridlock, whether you take Uber, a taxi or a bus. This makes the subway almost always the fastest, cheapest option. As an aside, we rented a Hertz for the day to get to Puebla. I highly recommend AGAINST driving yourself in Mexico City, even if on the way out of town. An unexpectedly hilarious moment was the Hertz lady explaining to us how to weasel out of the inevitable traffic ticket ("now I'm NOT telling you to do this, but..."). Bizarrely, all rental cars are plainly marked as rentals, which is like a flashing beacon to robbers and the traffic "police". Take the subway or a tour bus whenever you can.

Everything is color coded making it easier to navigate. It is so efficient. You never have to wait for a train. They are running constantly. The metro stations are clean and the busiest locations will have clothing and food vendors. There are about 21 million people living in this city. So if you ever use this train, be prepared for overly crowded trains especially during rush hours. You will be pushed. My only complain is the train needs more policing. Pick pocketing is an issue. Just guard your belongings really well. 4 stars.

Our room felt cramped and on top of that there was construction happening on the building next to where our room was and the construction went on until about 11 pm at night which was honestly quite irritating. Sadly I did not take pictures of the room, I messed up on that part but trust when I say the room was small. The view of the hotel itself is marvelous and upon arrival we were offered a complementary shot of tequila or wine (shot preferred) The breakfast was ok, hubby enjoyed his breakfast. I did not care for the hotcakes though.
