Truly wish I could leave zero stars. Renting from First Troy was undoubtedly my single worst rental experience. Avoid at all costs. We were three days late notifying of out intent to vacate the unit the month before our lease ended. Management said they renewed our lease for an entire year and we would be responsible for rent and utilities for the remainder of the new lease until the unit was re-rented. I pleaded and begged for them to have mercy and was told that the best they could do was accept a single payment of $6,443 by the end of that month. We had already signed a new lease out of town for a new job and I could not pay the $6,443 in such a short amount of time. Se we were forced to continue paying rent and utilities at the unit that we were no longer living in. I continued to pay rent and utilities on the unit until I was sent a cleaning bill and statement saying that they had taken our entire security deposit as a "re-rental" fee. Around this time the "For Rent" sign was removed from our lawn and the listing was removed from the website, even before the unit had been re-rented. The cleaning fees were outrageous and included ridiculous charges such as $50 for a smudge on a kitchen cabinet and another $50 for cleaning flecks of dust from a window blind. They claimed I installed incorrect drip pans on the stove top. I sent an email with pictures showing the newly installed drip pans lying perfectly flat. I received no response. They did not return the brand new supposedly "incorrect" drip pans to me. Paying rent and utilities for two apartments with a single income proved difficult and when I was late with a payment I was sent a notice stating that they had reported me to the credit bureaus and threatened to sue if full payment was not received within 10 days. My story is hardly unique. I have read many similar reviews from other renters at other First Troy properties. Management actively has these reviews wiped and you can't even leave a review on their Facebook anymore. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. read more

First I would like to say we are a professional couple who have lived in several rental communities. We rented our townhouse from First Troy for 6 years and always paid on time. First Troy is by far the worst we have ever experienced. When we were looking at the unit we asked about sound between the townhouses. We were assured that the walls were fire walls and sound wouldn't be a problem. Not true at all. We could hear the renters next door talk/ laugh/tv. They weren't loud just normal everyday noise. They did absolutely no maintenance on the outside the entire time. In fact the renter is responsible for cleaning the outside windows and pressure washing the patio/driveway. Lawn mowing is charged in addition to monthly rent. When you leave you have to have the carpets professionally cleaned and produce the receipt. Be prepared to basically get the apartment ready for the next renter. They don't have it cleaned professionally. We cleaned our apartment thoroughly. We were charged for one window which we forgot to clean and the laundry even though I scrubbed it on my hands and knees. When you rent from them be prepared to pay an additional charge for everything. And expect nothing from them. All they are interested in is sitting back and collecting their money. We could go on and on but we hope you get the point....Just don't. Find someone else to rent from. read more

Three years I stayed at this place and while leaving got the apartment professionally cleaned including sending receipts of cleanup to their office. Paid my rent on time for 3 years. And what I got nothing short of a christmas gift, instead of returning my security deposit they sent me a bill of $1200. SHOCKED and Amazed at the charges, replacing kitchen counter tops, washing the walls, $50 for cleaning kitchen cabinets. I mean are you kidding me ? Is this a way for them to fund their maintenance ? or the fancy new office they have built for themselves ? Or just a way to harass me cos I am Asian. Completely helpless and top of that they threatened me to pay else they will report to collection agency ? I have nothing positive to say about my experience in dealing with First Troy. I have lived in a few apt complexes in my life and this was by far the worst company to work with. Save yourself future trouble and look at any other property company besides First Troy. I feel like I am being more than generous by giving them 1 star. read more

Terrible. A bunch of thieves. You will not get your deposit back no matter what. Service is terrible, though the one maintenance man is nice. I've been renting apartments all over the world for many years- my job requires moving often. Worst anywhere- and I've lived in New York... They only care about how much money they make. We left our apartment immaculate- I have photos and video, but still had to take them to court to get my deposit back. Then they tried to charge me 10X what they paid for a replacement Walmart set of window blinds. Do yourself a favor- run, don't walk, away from these crooked criminals. Rented their Seidel Pkwy location. The apartment was nice, however much of the staff, not so much. It was very spacious. The neighborhood, mostly other apartments, had many loud parties late into the night throughout the summer. Trash from those parties always seemed to end up on our patio. Late in the summer there was an officer involved shooting with a crazed pit bull. They outsourced the emergency repair line to a separate company, which caused us to go without a stove to feed our children through the holidays. The church across the street is extremely busy on Sundays, making traffic on the street slightly chaotic. During the school year, mornings and afternoons, high school students would race through the neighborhood. I didn't feel it was safe for our children. The last and worse issue we had was specifically with the lessor. They only seemed to care about getting the next months rent and not truly about the tenants. That was most evident when the apartment looked better and cleaner when we moved out than when we moved in, and we still lost a large portion of our security deposit. They told us that the charges were for them to clean items that were spotless when we vacated the apartment. It felt like they essentially robbed us to make some more money. Overall, the apartment itself was nice, but the area and owner of the property was less than favorable. read more

well so far i have to know other two people, besides me, who have to talk to lawyer and even to go to court after ending their lease with them. asking more than 2400$, 3000$, and one one year rent are some of the cases that will may use to take you to a court after finishing your lease with them. be aware of that. if you still plan, after reading all the reviews about them, to sign the lease with them read the lease very carefully, take many pictures once you moved in and before you moved out, also don't forget to ask for walk in with them on the last day of the lease and asked them to write in paper everything they thing to be fix and offer that you will fix it for them otherwise don't be surprise from charging you 15$ for dirty ceiling an, or 47$ for the 4$ window blinder!, finally please before you leave write them a letter at least before month from the end of lease that your are leaving. read more
