It's hard to miss this bright blue shop with the colorful Rubik's Cube out front as you drive through mostly brown Panhandle Texas. Rather than take the chance of dozing off, I stopped in here for a caffeine hit. The shop is mostly meals and I felt a little out of place ordering a latte. I think my "New York" might have shown too much as it tends to do when I'm a little tired. The coffees and meals are prepared and served to order, so some patience is warranted. They have wifi and comfy seating, so my 15 minute wait was perfectly okay to surf the web and figure out where I was headed to next. As for the coffee, it was good. SEE THAT OVERSIZED RUBIX CUBE? DON'T PASS IT UP!! This coffee shop (and more!) offers the quintessential roadtrip experience. Remember, you chose to drive instead of fly specifically so you could see and experience places like this. The coffee was a little pricey ($5.40 for a medium iced coffee, although they might have accidentally served me a small), but DELICIOUS. I mean, the best iced coffee I've had in a LONG time - maybe ever. Now that I've tasted it, I would have paid double! We didn't purchase any food, but we did walk out with an unexpected souvenir... don't leave without checking out the knife collection in the adjacent room. The owners are friendly, quirky, and make great conversation. We set off on our trip a little depressed over the current state of things (are we living in CRAZY TOWN?), but the half hour we spent with these folks on the first day of the trek lifted our spirits and (at least temporarily) restored our hope in America. This place as it's essentially a shiny rainbow in the middle of a ghost town. It has a bright rainbow cube, pretty patio lights, and a large sign advertising my favorite thing: coffee. Its across the street from both a broken down, empty store front and a random funeral service. This is after miles and miles of just Texas landscape. I kind of felt like Hansel and Gretel when they discover the candy house in the woods. We walked in and a kindly woman took our coffee orders (they offer hot and iced options of the usuals: lattes, espresso, macchiato, etc.) We ordered two of the house specials: cherry mint and chocolate cherry lattes. They were tasty but definitely heavy on the sugar. At no point did the lady ask us to get into an oven so that was nice. Walking past the tables and front counter, theres a beautiful shop full of bright art, silly tshirts, origami balls, statue gargoyles, and trump memorabilia. Wait. Next to the trump memorabilia is a large collection of knives. At that point, I realized this probably WAS a Hansel and Gretel situation so we skedaddled. read more

Stopped for a coffee while passing through the very small town of Chillicothe and was pleasantly surprised. We were just going to get it to go and ended up sticking around for 30 minutes at least. First, it is very nice inside and a comfortable stop if you've been driving all morning. Second, the coffee was very good. But the real surprise is the little homemade museum the owner has set up in there. Bits and pieces of Americana that interest him, funny sayings, and some of his own art. Outside is a giant Rubik's cube...why? 'Cause he wants to build one. This is the kind of place that you want to find on a road trip. So much corporate sameness as you cross the country, it was nice to encounter a real mom-n-pop with unique character AND a good product. Tip: they are friendly to well-behaved dogs. read more

We ended up here because there was an hour wait for food at the Huddle house due to a large party that had just arrived right before us and we needed somewhere to feed and change the baby. Don't let the exterior fool you. We walked in and it's a sunny, colorful cafe. There's a sofa and comfy chairs to relax in. Turquoise coffee is run by an older couple who are as friendly as can be. She is the chef du jour and he is the "ar-teest"/jack of all trades. We ordered breakfast, because that was the only menu given us. Two ladies arriving from after church received both the breakfast and lunch menu. We ordered biscuits, sausage and gravy, which comes with potatoes and a waffle with bacon. The food is delicious! I normally won't eat the potatoes, oftentimes it's just diced and fried with little flavor. These potatoes are fried with peppers and are seasoned perfectly. I ate ALL OF IT off my husbands plate. I also proceeded to devour my own waffle and bacon. Mom is in the kitchen and I LOVE her food. Apparently, she's best known for her muffins and sells out quickly. She'd already sold out for that day, so I didn't get to try one :( If you're not hungry, stop by for the coffee. Just trust me on this one. As we were getting ready to leave we heard the couple tell the church ladies to check-in with them, because they weren't sure if they were going to open for President's Day or not, but more than likely were going to. I get the impression that hours are not set in stone... so if they're open make sure you grab the opportunity to support this small local business! P.S. I'll put it this way if you're a person of color or a friend of one you will not be getting good service. You'll be spoken to rudely, you'll be given smaller portions and not at all attended to as you eat. We sat down and were immediately asked what we wanted to order when we started with drinks (coffee and water) he said that was his wife's job. When we asked for a simple biscuit and gravy he said it wasn't available, yet 20 minutes later a white family (pertains to this review) magically the biscuits are available yet neither the man or woman had left. And all of a sudden the man is chatty chad and the lady automatically gets the drink order. We didn't get drinks until we were leaving (thanks for the tap water btw). If this is a last resort fine it's cool outside but I wouldn't ever stop again. read more

It's a "mask free zone" and apparently they do not care about the thousands of deaths and only that their "freedom is being kill" (see pics) I would not go here again. COVID: owners are very open regarding their opinion of the virus being fake with "mask free zone" posters throughout their shop. Coffee: $14 for two "large" lattes that are a bit on the small side, but pretty tasty. Service: when we asked for the milk alternatives that were listed on the coffee menu the cashier asked "Why? Does it make you sick?" It's a little uncomfortable to have to explain lactose intolerance symptoms to a stranger in a public setting... But, the coffee was good, and if you're searching for a place that won't enforce the mask law then this may be for you. We still enjoy supporting local small businesses when able! read more
