My fiancé and I have never operated a Vespa before and we decided to walk into Florence Station rental at 5pm to book a Vespa for a few hours. Lucky for us, there was one Vespa available and we were able to use it despite the shop closing at 5:30pm! Yuri (I believe this is the owner's name) was very accommodating and generally just great to work with. His English is excellent since he has a wife and child living in Hawaii, he's also visited California (my home state) multiple times. Since it was our first time on a Vespa, he made sure to get us comfortable with using the vehicle by teaching my fiancé and riding with him around the block! His instructions were fantastic. Honestly, the streets of Florence are kind of scary to drive around in, especially during rush hour traffic. Yuri gave us a route and a map that we can follow and basic traffic instructions. Luckily, my fiancé is tall and was able to operate the Vespa smoothly. A tip from me is to book a Vespa early in the day (or online). This shop is popular and vehicles may not be available. The countryside is better to be traveled early in the day when there is still light out. The shop does close at 5:30pm so any rentals late in the day will be charged "sunset pricing" but keys can still be return after the shop closes via a special "key hole" in the gate.

After a flight delay of over four hours, I arrived with my 2.5-year-old child and family, only to have my confirmed reservation illegally cancelled. The excuse? My driver's license -- which is undeniably valid in Italy under the bilateral Italy-Turkey agreement (in force until 2028) and further backed by an official diplomatic note from the international organization where I serve, confirming its validity across the EU. The desk agent refused to even look at my documents, openly ignored the legal evidence I presented, and instead treated me with hostility. When I asked for the agent's name -- something every professional should provide without hesitation -- the agent, visibly fearful, refused to disclose it and went so far as to threaten me with calling the police. If they were acting lawfully, why hide their identity? This behavior was not just a violation of law and international agreements -- it was an act of sheer arrogance, disrespect, and abuse of authority. Europcar, do you intentionally employ staff who are untrained, disrespectful, and utterly ignorant of international regulations? Or do you tolerate this kind of misconduct without consequence? To add insult to injury, I was able to rent a vehicle immediately from another company with the exact same license, without a single issue. That proves beyond any doubt that Europcar Florence acted unlawfully and shamefully. I demand to know: on what legal basis does Europcar believe it has the right to ignore international agreements and diplomatic notes, abandon families at the airport, and humiliate paying customers? My trust and loyalty to Europcar, built over years of rentals (especially in France), has been shattered. This is not customer service. This is abuse. And unless Europcar takes visible, serious disciplinary action against this type of conduct, it is clear that the company itself condones and encourages such disgraceful treatment.

In asking what this was given it never showed up during my online reservation process or in any communications from Europcar, I was rudely told I should know.. NEXT! An American license is not valid in Italy and you cannot be insured. Despite using Europcar several times in the past (mostly in Germany), I will NEVER use this company again.
