Great hidden gem in Tustin. We were looking for a specific plant that I called several nurseries and couldn't find one that had 4 plants that we needed at the size we needed. He had the "Hot Lips" Salvia microphylla sage we wanted plus after discussing our garden purposes, the owner gave us some ideas that we really liked and appreciated. We ended up only purchasing 2 Hot Lips plants and for the other 2 planters purchased Mexican Cigar plants or Cuphea Ignea plants. All in an effort to attract hummingbirds and butterflies. Everywhere I had called and asked for them, the average price was anywhere between $25 -$35 but each plant only ended up costing me $20 so I also saved around $20 - $30 total. read more

I hadn't been at this nursery for a couple of years. I am not an avid gardener but could tell the plants were just Ok. I returned to look for full-sun plants. I instantly noticed the difference in the health of the plants. Beautiful plants and trees. The bearded gentleman reached out instantly to help. Very knowledgeable and passionate about his plants. We were introduced to this nursery by our neighbor who has the most beautiful, exotic backyard (he has hundreds of different plants/trees). My neighbor and I came here on a Friday around 2 and were helped my Sean (his grandfather owns the nursery). Sean is super friendly, helpful and not pushy. He really does a great job in taking care of the nursery and his customers. He took care of all my needs and his customer service was excellent. I purchased 12 5-gallon ligustrum plants (to build a privacy wall), 2 15-gallon podocarpus trees and 2 15-gallon Birds of Paradise. WOW!!! I'm so glad we found Tustin Meadows Nursery. We are landscaping the back yard and needed to replace an old tangerine tree that was dying. We visited a number of nurseries and could not find what we wanted or the prices were through the roof. We visited Tustin Meadows and explained to Sean what we were doing and what we wanted in a tree (shade and no stone fruit). He shared numerous tree options with us and let us browse. We finally agreed on a standard olive which he did not have in stock. He went to the grower, sent us some pictures, which we discussed and sent him a text Monday night. Amazing Place...Welcome to the Jungle! Looked up and down and high and low and could not find the trees I was looking for. I stopped by Tustin Meadows and bumped into the proprietor Joe Grumbles. He has been running this place for over 30 years and knows his stuff! The nursery has a tiny little sign and this massive area hides behind a church. While Grumbles takes mostly orders, any of the plants and trees on the actual property are game! No prices but Grumbles wont do you wrong. He has skills and knows where every 2 million varieties of plants and trees on his property are located. I purchased two full grown trees easily worth 1k each. I had seen half the size and less pretty trees for $399. I got each one for $150 and delivery was included! I am such a fan and this Nursery definitely is as good as it gets! This is my new go to nursery! Tustin Meadows is a hidden treasure. We recently relandscaped our front yard and got most of the plants from here. Joe was wonderful to work with. He made lots of great suggestions for plants that fit into our theme. I don't think anyone can beat his prices and the plants were happy and vibrant. I was looking for a Eugenia topiary and had reconciled to spend over $350 for it at a specialty nursery and Joe had it for less than a quarter of the price!! We will be landscaping our backyard next and look forward to working with Joe again. I am recommending this nursery to all my friends!! read more

This place is really kind of randomly weird. It is located behind a church in what I would consider a residential area. There is no big sign. You pull into the dirt parking lot and go through a gate into a jungle-like setting. I have to say that they are doing their fair share to clean the air with all the plants they have on display here. I wandered around for a while looking for fruit trees, but it was hard to find anything because there is so much, and it is not arranged very well. I walked by the shack and the gentleman there asked me if I needed anything. I told him I was looking for fruit trees. He yelled to one of the workers to take me to the fruit tree area. I did not find anything that was interesting in my price range. Customer service was nonexistent. Prices are a bit on the high side. Stock is disorganized. Think I'll go elsewhere. read more

Tons of plants to look at and they're all at incredibly affordable prices. Staff is EXTREMELY friendly and helpful. It's so nice and peaceful to walk around there. I grew up around the corner and I remember coming here as a kid. Joe came out to our house once or twice to advise, and we'd go and pick things out at the nursery. I was in the neighborhood last week, and I had to see if this place was still there. To my amazement, not only is the nursery still there, but Joe is still there too! Thirty years later, and Joe is still sitting in his little shack in the middle of his suburban forest. You won't be walking up and down aisles here. Think of it as more of a nature hike. I think plants that don't sell just grow right out of their containers and become part of the place. Joe will help you find whatever you need, and order anything he doesn't have. You won't always find exactly what you want, but you can't beat the prices. This last trip, I bought some lavender for 1/3 of the price I see at Home Depot, Armstrong, etc. Go check it out... it's a fun place! read more

Looking at the reviews I was excited about this place and I called on Saturday to order a tree and they didn't have it available. Joe said he could get it in a few days and I called back on Tuesday to see if it got there and he said no it will be a few more days .. waited until Friday to call and he said hadn't had a chance yet.. I let him know I needed it for a present by Tuesday and he said yeah I will for sure have it by then. Guess what? No tree. Waste of time. Terrible service. read more

We wanted to switch our front yard from grass to a drought tolerant landscape. Spent hours and hours on the internet and talking to people at big box stores and many plant nurseries and just got more confused. Finally, stumbled on Tustin Meadows (couldn't even find it on the first try), and then learned more and got more information in 10 minutes and the best way to proceed from Mr. Grumbles than from all the hours with others and the internet. Also, his prices are very good, but his advice was priceless for us. He even drew out a quick plan on how to do it. My young daughters and I had a wonderful experience here. I brought my twin 5 year old daughters here one afternoon on a hunt to find Jasmin bushes to plant in our backyard. Joe was very kind and helpful. He had the Jasmin bushes brought out to the front for us while my little girls and I explored his enchanting gardens. At the end while I was squaring away payment with Joe he noticed my girls admiring some flowers and suggested they take them. When I offered to pay for them he said they were a gift with the promise my girls would plant them and take good care of them. They were so happy and so was I. Thank you Joe. I was trying to locate some silver carpets and star jasmines for my yard, I was surprised that the big box store near me didn't have them. So I called around different nurseries, and found Joe at Tustin Meadows Nursery. Two things that made me want to do business with Joe as we talked, first, him - his knowledge, and his helpfulness; second, his price, about 25% lower than one other nursery that has the items. Then as we tallied up the total, Joe offered free delivery to my home! I guessed my total was above a certain amount and qualified. But he didn't mention it (to push more sales) and I had never asked for it (even though it would be difficult for me to buy all that and fit them in my little hatchback), he just offered it - to my utmost delight and appreciation! That's a honest, and kindhearted business man! The next day, Joe's grandson delivered the plants as promised. I am so happy to have discovered Joe and Tustin Meadows Nursery, wish him well and hope his business will do well for a long time to come! Sean was a huge help when we needed some recommendations for trees since our landscaping designer refused to suggest anything after we rejected his initial recommendations. Later in our project, we engaged a company to execute our plan and we had to use their nursery. When our initial plant list was submitted, we got feedback about what was not available, so we modified the list and received confirmation that everything was available. So imagine our surprise, when things were delivered, to find that half the plants were not included, substitutions had been made without approval, some were provided in different sizes than we needed, and some were too unhealthy to plant. We turned to Sean again and boy, did he come though. He had the extra Coprosma Pacific Sunsets we needed and they were much fuller than what we received from our landscaping company's vendor, and although he didn't have the frasier photinia tree and the gulfstream nandinas we wanted, he found them though his contacts, sent us photos for approval, and delivered them to our house. We were very impressed with the care he took to make us happy and highly recommend the nursery. read more

When I finally decided to do some serious landscaping at my home, a neighbor suggested I check out Tustin Meadows. I had driven by the nursery for years and thought that part of Esplanade was a strange location for a nursery, but I was curious and the recommendation was spot on.This seemingly small nursery bordering Orange and N.Tustin is actually huge! I was blown away by how different this nursery is from all the others I'd ever been to. As you wander through the entrance and down the main path you eventually get to a shed like structure that serves as the office for the owner, Joe. He is the most agreeable nursery owner on this side of the Mississippi and knows everything there is to know about what will grow in the area. If you know very little about plants, he'll steer you to the plants and trees that will flourish in your garden. Since many of the best local landscape architects/contractors buy their stuff from Tustin Meadows, Joe's often busy filling orders. He has helpers if you need to get in and out quickly, but if you're not sure about what you want, it's worth the wait to talk directly to Joe. While waiting, it is a real experience wandering through the nursery's "secret garden" like paths. On my first visit (and every one thereafter), I enjoyed wandering along the paths looking at the variety of trees and plants. When I wandered back to the "office," I explained to Joe that I really didn't know what I wanted or what would grow well in my area, but that I loved jacarandas, but not the mess. Joe listened and suggested a variegated leaf blue flowering trees that I had never heard of. I trusted him and bought a bunch to act as a screen. It's now been about 10 years and the trees are mature; they bloom all year long and the variegated leaves add interest. When I told him I wanted some drought tolerant plants that he didn't have--there was no problem-- he ordered them for me. After that first encounter, I knew I'd never go anywhere else to buy my plants. He does whatever it takes to make customers happy. The plants he gets are great quality and he sells them at extremely reasonable prices. You cannot go wrong by shopping for plants at Tustin Meadows. It definitely deserves a five star rating for service as well as quality. read more

This place is a gem for ferns and plenty of other things! I've been looking for things that will do well in partial sun or shade. This place is packed with new and old stuff so theres more shade than most places. 50 years according to the owner, Mr. Grumbles. Get him talking about propagating ferns and you'll see how passionate he is about what he does. He has a great variety of beautiful healthy ferns at near wholesale prices. They delivered a giant tree fern (15 gal, $55) to me in Fullerton for no extra charge. Who does that? Awesome. read more

This place is absolutely wonderful! You get the aura of walking in to the Garden of Eden as you enter the nursery. They have a tremendous array of plants, trees, and shrubs...Rock bottom prices, too... I paid less than half of what Home Depot and Lowes were charging and I got far superior quality! It was definitely worth the 20 minute drive! The business is family owned and operated by Grandpa Joe and his very knowledgeable and polite grandson. I strongly recommend this place! This is a wonderful nursery!! The owner is the sweetest elderly man I have ever met. He truly loves what he does as he took the time to explain the different options we had for screening plants and instructed us on how to plant them.
