We started with Tutu Toddlers and it was a wonderful developmentally appropriate class for 2 and 3 year olds. It was a nice mix of guided play, imaginary games, and a nice introduction to the world of ballet. When she moved up to Primary Ballet the classes became more structured and focused on the art and language of ballet. My daughter really looks forward to her weekly classes and the semi-annual recital called Bravo Bash. We love Tutu School and recommend it to anyone looking for a low pressure ballet class that meets the child where they are developmentally. read more

This is a great intro to ballet for little ones 2 and up. Adults are allowed to participate and sit and watch. It's a small studio, but very cute. It's in a touristy area, but parking usually isn't a big problem if you do one of the morning classes. The teachers are very helpful and patient. The kids get to color at the end. My almost 4 y/o broke my heart and told me she didn't want to play soccer anymore and instead wanted to attend "ballerina class". I wasn't thrilled to make the transition to Dance Mom but after a search on Yelp, we signed up for several months of Tutu School. We attend the Saturday morning class and my daughter loves it. Parking is surprisingly easy and the Starbucks next door is a huge win. Miss Monica is patient, kind and actually knows how to dance. It was even her major at USF! I like this class because it's not over the top, stand in front of the mirror and be perfect. The girls get silly, learn to listen and some basic ballet stuff. Nothing serious, more play focused. My twin daughters and myself came in to do a free trial, and we absolutely love this facility. We came to the school with a warm welcoming greeting from Miss Monica. I love how the school is designed, and well clean/kept up. Miss Monica is just amazing, from how she uses all these tricks with items that kids enjoy to get the class involved in the activity. Miss Monica is amazing with using each children name when speaking to them. It's an amazing school I love that I gave tutu school a try because this is something we will keep going til my girls are ready to switch to something else. Also, miss Renee was great for filling in for miss Monica, my daughter Myla normal has difficulties with directions, but she was right under Miss Renee like my oldest daughter Maly is with miss Monica. read more

I strive to be a man's man. I love football, fast cars, beer, and movies where things explode. If I can do a few of those things at the same time, even better! However, I also have a two year old daughter, and sometimes she needs to get her girly-girl on. Enter the Tutu School. Ten Disneyland Princess Breakfasts have nothing on this place! It is a paradise of over-the-top pink colored adorableness. it would seem perfectly reasonable if a unicorn emerged from the back room to give the girls rides up and down a rainbow. You have never seen a greater celebration of little girl cuteness in your life. The class is perfectly suited to little ladies, with your standard group play things, a nice bit of exercise and a surprising amount of real ballet, all with a minimum of 50 references per class to princesses and fairies. Teacher Rachel seems to be Glinda the Good Witch's first cousin and is focused on making all of the kids feel quite special. She keeps things well paced, gets most of the kids involved and doesn't dwell when one of them isn't interested in participating. I may try to be rough and tumble on the outside, but trust me that taking my gal to ballet class at the Tutu School is a weekly highlight for both of us. You gotta problem with that!?! read more

This update is for summer camp, which I thought was not anything special. It was a five-day program from 9.00 am -2.00 pm, parents provide their own snack/lunch. According to my four-year-old, the kids watched "Barbie on TV", which I wasn't crazy about. For $365.00 I would have expected a camp T-shirt at the end of the week. I will not consider this camp again, there are too many other great ones. read more

My 2-yr-old daughter loves loves loves her dance class at TuTu School! The teachers are so charmingly imaginative & patient and hold the attention of their little tutu-ed twirlers by engaging them in creative exercises: dancing like animals, tempo & rhythm play, dancing out fairy tales. This charming early exposure to ballet and dance is just what my two preschoolers needed. My daughter blossomed from a shy clingy girl to a dancer with an affinity of Swan Lake, Copellia, and her favorite, the Nutcracker. My son learned ballet positions and the confidence to perform on stage. All of the teachers are lovely. Rachel is an exceptional asset who not only teaches but runs the administration and birthday parties. Alice is a fun filled teacher that my children adore. It's always a treat when Genevieve herself teaches the class! I don't think you could go wrong with any teacher at Tutu school. My daughter loves it so much she's twirls in SF and Larkspur. My SON loves his ballet class. Yes, you read that right, my SON loves it dearly! I discovered the Tutu Ballet school through my mommy group. I know that when I was his age (2y/o) my mother had me in dance classes. I figured I would try him in the classes as when ever he hears music at home he bops his little head and does a little dance that looks like the chicken dance. he loves it. when he isn't running around and hopping (ie leaping) over the "mud puddles" in class, he is smiling and laughing. Genevieve is amazing. her patience with children astounds me, taking on eight to ten 2-3 year olds in a class with ease. her ways of teaching the classes are creative (saying hello and goodbye to toes when pointing and flexing your feet, painting rainbows when stretching side to side etc) and easy for children to understand. each week ends with a ballet story that involves the kids dancing little sections freely. This week also included Genevieve's picture as she preformed in a professional production of Cinderella. My son is not the only boy in the classes, and i encourage all parents thinking about enrolling their sons to do so! it's culture! and as a former professional dancer myself, I will tell you that Genevieve's school is the best place in the bay area to bring your budding Odette's and Nutcracker Princes! My daughter used to go here when we lived in San Francisco. Teacher Genevieve is so wonderful and nicest teacher, and I was so amazed by how she gently teaches children. Very good instruction and encourages them to use their imagination. I really like the part that they talk about ballet story and they try to do the same scene using their imagination. I miss this school for my daughter. We moved out from San Francisco. I hope one day they will open the brach in east bay. read more

I can't say enough good things about this ballet school and its director and teachers. My three-year-old loves Miss Genevieve and Miss Laura. At least for three-year olds, ballet is taught in a way that is probably less rigid than other schools, but I think most appropriate for this age group. Formal dance steps are learned in a playful age-appropriate manner. I appreciate the openness of the director to feedback. This school already gets an "A" from me, and Genevieve continues to work toward offering an A++ school for young dancers. read more

Our daughter's 3rd birthday party at Tutu School was amazing! I don't know who had more fun, the parents or the kids ( well, maybe the kids!). Miss Rachel and Miss Katie did a fantastic job leading a gaggle of ten 2-3 years old for 2 hours straight of fun including tiara/crown making, coloring, a fun-filled ballet lesson and personalized birthday girl story time. After all that we commenced to the cupcake and punch picnic (which BTW, the cupcakes were to die for!)! To top it all off, the kids loved the goodie bags full of sparkly and fun prizes and each left with a huge smile on their faces- especially the birthday girl! We really appreciated all the little touches from the personalized sign on the table to the special attention given to each and every little guest. My daughter and I love this place. Genevieve is a great teacher. Her ideas for teaching ballet to 3 year olds are spot on; making shapes with your bodies, dancing like different animals, and stretching like you're painting a rainbow. She focuses on the fun of ballet, and dance in general, and introduces the concept of dance as storytelling, which is very smart, and, I believe, quite unique. My daughter Charlotte, 3.5 years, has been going to Tutuschool for the past semester. It is a fantastic environment, very cute, clean and warm, run by two great professional ballet dancers, Miss Genevieve and Miss Rachel, who decided that teaching ballet could be fun while maintaining high standards in the level of teaching. They are leading a class of 10 pre-schoolers with great calm and provide attention to each kid. I am so sorry we will lose them as we are relocating. I love the Tutu School on Bay St! The staff is amazing, the décor simply precious and the organization including their website efficient. Specifically, we just hosted our daughter's 3rd birthday here and everything went as planned, even exceeding my expectations. For 17 toddlers, the 2 dance teachers (Miss Lu and Miss Florrie, both amazing!) kept their attention and helped with crafts, dancing, and distributing cupcakes and party favors. And the best part of it all, completely turnkey operation. They provided everything! HIGHLY recommend hosting a party here and attending classes! read more

We discovered Tutu School while searching online for a place to hold our daughter's 4th birthday party. Upon contacting the school, we learned that it wasn't even open yet, and ours would be the very first event to be held there. Realizing we were taking a bit of a risk of the space not being finished on time, we booked it. Well, the director of the school, Genevieve, called us a couple weeks before the event to tell us it wouldn't be ready in time. She was completely apologetic and offered to hold the party at an alternative location (a yoga studio in a different neighborhood). Having already sent out the invitations, we were not thrilled about changing the location, but Genevieve was so sweet and charming and easy to work with that we decided to move forward. How lucky for us that we did! The party was absolutely fabulous. She had turned a basic yoga studio into a 4-year-old's dreamland. The place was beautifully and tastefully decorated... perfectly satisfying to both the adults and the kids. Every detail had been considered. The director herself taught the class (in full ballerina costume, I might add), and the kids were completely in love with her. I have never seen a group of little girls listen so intently or follow instructions so well. Amazing! I can't comment on the actual Tutu School space since I haven't seen it yet, but given our positive experience with the party, I immediately signed my daughter up for classes, which start next week. My daughter Emma loves Tutu school. She started with Toddler B class and now she is in Exploring Ballet A class. She absolutely loves Miss Genevieve. She is very encouraging and pays attentions to everyone in the class very well. The class encourages them to use their imagination and express it freely. Other teachers are great as well. The class also has story time and coloring time at the end and it is very sweet when they are pretending to be dancing all these famous ballet stories. read more

My 3 year old daughter has been going to Tutu School for almost a year now. She (and I) enjoy our Saturday mornings with Miss Rachel. She really keeps the children focused & engaged for a full hour! My daughter has so much fun in this class --from the dressing up in her leotard and tutu (of course), to the warm up exercises, stories, and dancing! It's just perfect and magical for little girls! Tutu school is a fabulous spot for young children to experience ballet in a fun environment filled with magic and joy. Genevieve knows exactly how to balance fun with formal dancing steps,how to use the children's imagination and on top of all that my two daughters respected her greatly and will talk highly of her at home! The decor is a ballerina's paradise and in an excellent location. Parking garages are plenty but I have always found street parking. As a Mother I could not be happier to have found this school! My daughter loved her ballet classes here. The teachers are incredibly supportive and patient with a class full of 2-3 year olds. She didn't learn much in terms of real ballet movements but she had a lot of fun trying to. The room is a bit small but so adorable. The lessons were fun for the parents to watch too. Ballet heaven for my 3 year old. She loves her teacher Miss Alice. On a couple of make-up class occasions she had Miss Rachel, who was just as wonderful. They make it a completely magical experience for these little girls....and for me, too as I wish I was 3 all over again :) It's as beautifully girly as you can imagine with the most wonderful ambience.
