A large black & white sign with "Cozy kitchen bistro & catering" above large open windows and a door, but looking in it just seems like a small and brightly lit white and red-colored hallway. Opened, walked in, and a dark staircase into the basement appears. It's just a few steps, but walking down there's a quite small dining room that appear in front of my eyes. A few dark wooden tables (approximately seven or so) of different sizes lined on both sides of the long milled room with the bar in the far end and the closed-off kitchen behind the bar. I was immediately struck by how quirky and utterly charming the place appeared! Me and my dad were seated at a table and given the menu. And no, holding the menu in our hands wasn't quite an option. Instead, a large black board of at least 1.5 meters in height was put next to our table that featured the menu. I love stuff like that! The number of choices are quite few, approximately three each of starters, mains, and desserts, and I also prefer that than an insane amount of dishes. Make a few and make them perfect is a recipe for success in my book. For starter I opted for a plate of charcuteries and I was served olives, aioli, smoked ham, chili sausages, salami, baby spinach, parma and more. Delicious. My main was a serving of tenderloin steak, roasted Idaho-potatoes, bearnaise, sauteed root vegetables and red wine jus. Simple straight-up pub-food that satisfies pretty much everyone set for a good piece of meat. My dad had the red wine braised beef cheeks with cheddar mash and ragu of mushrooms. My beef was cooked to perfection, but my dad was absolutely floored by how good his beef cheeks were. I had a taste and I'm inclined to agree (though they're never able to beat Rolfs Kök beef cheek staple in this regard). I definitely didn't "need" a dessert as the servings are on the quite generous side, but I couldn't stay away from a trio of raspberry with a warm cup of cappuccino to round of a quite satisfying meal. In all, the food is excellent and the attention to detail is more than adequate along with a quirky and modern dining-room. Maybe not the best serving staff, but my guess is that she was fairly new on the job and I won't let that influence my rating. I'd be more than happy to come back, as the experience was both pleasant, rewarding and well-tasting. Three strong(!) stars.

It feels like a small neighborhood gem that emphasizes the particular marine lifestyle. It's modern yet warm and inviting, contemporary design yet personal. The white tiled open kitchen and bar is set in perfect contrast to the dining area that has that good balance of number of tables. I often find that many restaurants have too many tables for their capacity, but this felt just right. The dining area overlooks the harbour through large floor to ceiling windows, and even though it's late winter/early spring, this particular evening overlooking the harbour covered in thick mist was somewhat haunting and absolutely gorgeous. I began my meal with a lobster soup served with scallop dumplings, acidified papaya, and squid mayo. To this the recommended wine Walnut Block Collectables, a Marlborough from New Zealand. The combination of the food and wine absolutely floored me. The soup was rich and salty with so much ocean flavor, together with the tender and soft dumplings and the slightly sweet wine was an absolute homerun! For main I had a white wine poached turbot served with fried dark rye bread, acidified schallots, kale, and Brandade (a specific type of potato mixture). In the glass was a Chardonnay, Bourgogne Couvent des Jacobins, from 2015. Sometimes, a Chardonnay can be a bit too sweet and oily on the palate, but this was more acidic without the oily component and a great pairing with the quite meaty and rich turbot. It was another great dish and truly tasty, though it didn't blow my mind like the starter dish had done. For dessert I opted for a white chocolate mousse with lemon sorbet accompanied by a caffe latte that rounded of the meal quite nicely. All in all, I must say that this place impressed me. From the beautiful decor and dining area, attentive and friendly staff (actually, our waiter was extraordinary!), great quality of food with excellent wine pairings, this place is an absolute winner in my book. Also, I'm rarely able to stay away from meat when going to a restaurant, but when a place is specifically oriented towards fish and practically situated on the water, one has to throw food caution to the wind and I'm glad I did; because this place is all about fish, and they definitely treat the produce like the gem it is. Had the turbot on one occasion and the "plateau" shellfish medley on the second occasion. Both featured very fresh and well prepared seafood, excellent wine, and good service. Dessert, a creme brûlée was also very tasty. The rest of my extended family also really enjoyed their meals. Highly recommended when in my hometown.

Wooden walls and quite dark (that unfortunately due to the lack of cloth makes the dining area a bit loud/echoing), the interior rather breathes of history and genuineness than the modern approach, a little bit like stepping back in time restaurant-wise, and that doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing. On the contrary, Michelangelos primary focus is genuine cooking with big and bold flavors without the fancy shenanigans. This latest outing was with my father, his partner Maggan, myself and our youngest son Isak. We were quickly seated and attended to and started going over the menus. All of decided on Gamberoni al piccanti for starter - fried scampi in garlic, chili and parsley with salad. The scampi was perfectly cooked, translucent in the middle and still moist with nice hint of chili and garlic. The salad though was sorely lacking any kind of finesse or skill. I know Italian salads and I love them both for their simplicity and amazing flavors. But a few green leaves with sloppy chopped tomatoes and large bits of raw red onion doesn't fool anyone, in particular not me. I had the house white wine on the glass for the starter it was very bland without any structure or complexity. I really prefer a more sweet wine, perhaps a Riesling, that is a perfect match to delicate seafood. But no, this didn't work. For main course all of us once again decided on the same dish, their honey glazed lamb roast beef with roasted potatoes, red wine jus, and sautéed vegetables. We also ordered an Italian bottle of red wine (can't remember what it was) but the wine was good. Though the food was the highlight! Succulent and tender roast beef, beautiful vegetables, crispy potatoes. The only minor flaw was that the red wine jus was too sweet, I like the sauce to have more bite and thus complement both the vegetables and the meat better. But I'm getting nitpicky here, the food is good and I'll be more than happy to come back and taste another little piece of Italy.
