The only thing that makes it interesting is the Donald Ross design. From the very beginning, our group of 12 was not impressed at all. There are no directional signs to parking or bag drop. When you walk up to the Club House you are immediately confused on where to go. There will be carts parked in the front and a big sign that says 'Cart Return'. There was no one there to answer questions or greet us. The two guys in the club house would win the prize for dour personality and sour disposition. The course is poorly maintained and unimpressive. There are few signs along the course that will designate the next tee boxes. Poorly maintained fairways and worse tee boxes. The only reason we played this course was that it's in the Top 100 Golf Digest ranking and a Donald Ross Design. The ladies in the Club House Restaurant and Bar must be new. They had no idea of what questions to ask. The first being are you starting or ending your round? After all it is a golf course. They had an attitude with our group of 12 and kept asking if we wanted a table. Someone in our group said 'we are all here to play golf and have a tee time in 20 minutes so we are on the clock. Her response was 'well I guess you could have said this was a to go order'. It was clear there was little training and these ladies were not happy. They certainly added no value to our experience. They made multiple errors on our orders and we were all frustrated and ready to get out of there as soon as possible. Skip this location as there are so many better options in the area.

To paraphrase Dire Straits, "He'll do everything for you..." He's a good teacher. An expert in repair and on equipment. He remembers customer names. He goes the extra mile. Example? Two of my iron shafts snapped recently beneath their grips. Happened about two months apart. They had rusted. For the second repair, Kevin contacted the manufacturer, got the new shaft, and repaired it without charge. Now....who's going to do that for you at a chain store? Great place. They'll take good care of you and make you feel at home.

A lot of interesting holes, some housing along the course but never intruding with big setbacks and plenty of holes routed through woodlands and no houses. Felt like a good country club course. I would recommend the course to any mid to better player. I played it about 6,700 yards or so and that was a challenge. Tips would be tough if you're not 300 off the tee regularly.

Like most all of DR's designs there are a lot of bunkers. You'll be challenged by the green side bunkers that will create a challenge for you. Not that many fairway bunkers but a few that will get your attention. You won't come back to the Clubhouse on the Turn but you will find the 'Half-Way House' which will be a welcome pause for food and beverage. There were mixed reviews of the course from our group of 12 but everyone acknowledged it was a good experience since it was a DR Design. The one problem we all agreed on was the many permanent Cart Path Only holes.

But my girlfriend and I caught a weird vibe from the workers. It was Robert and another guy wearing an Irish golf cap unsure of his name. But I first picked out the club I was going to buy and it had an old timey leather golf grip, like something Bobby Jones would've used. I was wanting another MCC grip that matched all my other clubs to be put on the wedge. They both gave me a scuffled look like they didn't want to do that. They were persistent that this was a $50 golf grip and that I should keep it. It is not what I wanted and they were not very fond of me changing the grip. Robert eventually let me do it, but was very judgmental about it. I then wanted to see the different options available of grips and politely asked if I could walk to where the grips were. He gave me a pretty stern No. I understood, but overall was a weird interaction. Got my club and it was good work, But the workers interaction with me rubbed off the wrong way. They had us stay at the Residence Inn , with a ton of restaurants and bars nearby, several were walking distance as well. The hotel was perfect and fitted our needs perfectly. The first course was Legacy and it was gorgeous and a pleasure to play for our first round. We then had Seven Lakes and Anderson Creek to round out or three day get away. Anderson Creek is a good choice for those who plan to head back north on their last day. Its about 1 hr north of Pinehurst area.
