Edited a minute ago New Upon entering the establishment, the security guard took our IDs and he was holding a high-alcohol content beer, Hayburner, in one hand, and holding our ID's with the other. He seemed angry when my brother asked if our ID's had to be scanned, and really seemed to snap at my brother, but we shrugged it off and he scanned them and we went on with our night. Throughout the night, the security guard continued drinking these Hayburners. My brother and I were enjoying our evening, had not once had any issue with another patron or the bar, and we were in mid-conversation about piano, when I felt the guard standing behind me. He was just standing behind me, staring my brother down. It was a scary feeling. My brother, who has worked in the industry for 20 years, asked if everything was okay. The security guard approached my brother and started pushing him saying "Everything is okay with me is everything okay with you??" And my brother was walking backwards trying to de-escalate this seemingly intoxicated security guard. That's when I watched him grab my brother by both shoulders and push him backwards across the entire length of the bar, knocking him into people and objects, eventually pushing him out of the door. He even grabbed another guy and shoved him so hard against the wall that that guys beer went flying and he had purple and blue bruises from his grab. I desperately tried for the other woman security guard to understand he had just been assaulted and had done nothing wrong. She seemed to nod like she had seen this before, but wasn't going to do anything about it. My sister and I were astounded at the actions of this man. That's when he shoved me, a mid thirties woman not even half his size. Even after we were walking away from the bar, this security guard stood outside yelling towards us that he, direct quote, was going to "break our f***ng necks". This is negligence on the bar's behalf, for allowing an intoxicated security guard to a$$ault patrons. We immediately filed a police report, and they requested the video footage from the bar. The bar refused to provide any of the footage. Usually, bars who have nothing to hide are quick to comply- which was very telling in this case. We were never once asked to leave. We were just blind-sighted. I immediately called the bar after the incident and one of the owners, Amanda, who was tending the bar and witnessed the entire thing, cheerfully answered the phone. She had served my brother with no issue. I let her know her security guard had just assaulted us, and she said "ok?" And nothing further. This place does not give a rip about anyone's safety, especially not women's. It has been weeks and I'm still recovering from the pain of this night. Beware for your safety, women. I did what I could, but their actions will likely result in someone getting seriously hurt. read more

Be careful here, fam. Security can be unpredictable and dangerous. I was visiting from LA and out for karaoke with my family when a guard came over mid-conversation, pushed my sister aside, attacked my brother, dragged him outside, and threatened to break their necks. It was terrifying. I could've lost my brother, and we didn't even know why. For your own safety, don't fight back if confronted like this, report it instead. Paper trails save lives. Really disappointed with how rude the security guard was to us. We had been hearing about this place for a while and were excited to check it out. We walked in, grabbed some drinks, and walked over to the pool table that noone was using. The cover was on the table and there was food and drinks sitting on top of it. We asked a bunch of people that were standing around it if the food/drinks were there's and everyone said no so we moved it to the counter that was right next to the pool table, paid to play and started playing. We took one shot on the table & the security guard came in yelling at us to leave. We were so confused as to why they were so mad, didn't understand what we did wrong and were asking them why. They just kept saying over and over again that we took the cover off the table so we need to leave. But we didn't understand why we were getting kicked out. Eventually they told us that the pool table and darts close at 11pm and you're no longer allowed to play them after that time and they compared what we did to coming into their bar and messing with the thermostat. I apologized to them saying we had no idea and that it was our first time there and that we thought the cover was just on to protect the table when it wasn't in use since people had food and drinks on it. They continued to yell at us to leave and when asking why we had to leave they said because we didn't ask to play pool and that if we had asked they would have told us no. If the security guard had come up to us and just let us know that the pool table had closed at 11 we would have apologized and stopped playing immediately because we had no idea since it was our first time there. But being yelled at and kicked out of a bar for playing pool that advertises having a pool table on Google was just so wild to us. There were no signs saying it closed at 11 and it just never even occured to us that there would be a time that a pool table would close because we've never experienced that at a bar before. We tried to reason with the security person asking why we had to leave and if we could stay if we stopped playing pool but they told us we disrespected them so we needed to leave. They then threatened to call the cops on us if we didn't leave. So we walked in, spent money on drinks that we didn't drink, spent money on pool that we didn't get to play, got yelled at and kicked out all while just trying to have a good time. Twenty six was actually a really good time. We were walking by and just wanted a drink and didn't know it a gay bar. But that didn't stop us from having good conversations and getting our drink on. The people there was super friendly and talkative. It looked closed. You can't really peak in and see the vibe. You just have to open the door and see if it's open. There's a back patio and we saw someone walk out so that's why we stopped by. Inside is dark with splashes of color here and there. It's very much a nightclub / dancing bar vibe. There's a small area to dance and there's a handful of barstools maybe 20 for people to sit and sip. The back wall with all the alcohol was super interesting. It was filled with affirmations, quotes, sayings, and funny things in several different languages. The bartender we talked with on this Sunday afternoon is also a part time owner. He was super chipper and we bought him a drink. Service like that always makes an experience better. The bathrooms is one entrance. A few stalls and a few urinals. The sinks are shared. Turn the corner slow because you'll run into someone. The opening isn't that big. Same goes for entrance to the back patio. The patio was still being developed I believe. It was pretty bare. A few tables and chairs. Nothing too spectacular. But nice to be able to chat with people with the breeze and if you smoke, to light up back there. Came on a calm day. No idea how it's like during a hectic time. But I had fun here. read more

The first time I went to The Twenty Six...I almost didn't. This was April of 2024, and I was in town for a job interview. With all those formalities dispensed with, I had one night to myself, and there she was resplendent in that characteristic cyberpunk pink, dauntless neon in the window inviting the girls, gays and theys. My misgivings of not being hot enough, young enough, chic enough were all made redundant once I entered. The inside of the establishment is dynamic: walls bestrewn with provocative queer art, the air reverberant with music. Everyone-- from patrons to bartenders-- was incredibly convivial and welcoming. It was a good night, let me tell you! I did eventually move to Buffalo and have lived here for about 5 months now. Existential questions about career stuff, whether or not this is my forever city keep me up at night...but I digress...I've been to The Twenty Six many times since then, and have gotten to know a good number of the staff who always take the time to say hello, shoot the shit a bit...it means the world to this Gemini. Gay bars, in my opinion, are a sanctuary where the quotidian cruelties and low-simmering animuses of the world do not exist. Here, we can be infinite. The Twenty Six is one such sanctuary, and I hope that Buffalonians cherish it. read more
