I can't believe I've never reviewed this spot. It's my favorite bar in the city! The vibe is chill, but classy. If I'm dining anywhere near here I am stopping in for a pre or post meal beverage. The bartenders are friendly and engaging. I can't speak for the snacks, but there are a decent amount available. read more

My recent visit to house of charm wasn't very charming. I couldn't stop bragging about this spot to my partner. We stopped in on a random Sunday for quick drinks assuming that it wouldn't be majorly crowded. Went inside and as expected it was all of five of us in the bar. We got seated quickly grabbed a drink menu and anticipated getting hammered. Well the next thing we noticed was a small stinch that couldn't be ignored. I'm not sure if it was the plumbing or the carpet but it was hard to move past for sure. It also made me question if the couple other times i went there the smell was there and I just hadn't notice. Nonetheless, i ordered tequila and Red Bull which is easy enough and they ordered an amaretto sour. He requested that it could have a tad bit extra amaretto. The bartender asked follow up questions and essentially protested about their being additional servings added to the recipe. It was the nastiest drink i ever tasted. read more

Dive bar vibe, but the pink lights give it a fun, unique twist . My friend especially loved the aesthetic. The drinks were solid, and the bartenders were super friendly which made the whole experience feel really welcoming. They also offer small snacks and a few dishes if you're feeling hungry and a pool table in the back. Would definitely come back again. Good spot to come with friends for a drink especially if you're looking for something lowkey but still a little different from the usual downtown bars. read more

Came here on a Monday night while visiting. Great atmosphere, super welcoming, and good drinks. Place was quite busy for a Monday and had a small town, everyone knew each other vibe. I really enjoyed the late afternoon-early evening I spent at downtown's newest drinking hole. Great location, funky, fun vibe, whimsical decor, quality spirits, light snacks - just what you want in a modern day saloon. The word comes from the French salon, and it originally had the same meaning, "living room." Ideally situated, House of Charm can be a meeting place before a show in the theater district, an after work meetup for happy hour, or a stop on a downtown bar hopping adventure. There's no craft beer, no "signature cocktail", nothing on the menu you can't pronounce. There are good white, red and sparkling wine choices, top shelf vodkas, whiskys, etc. and a fun modelo pony and any shot for $4. I opted for the French Rose on offer and was not disappointed. There are snacks available; nothing more substantial than a panini. I indulged in the cheese plate - which was generous and reasonably priced at $13 (they had me at triple creme brie!). There is a showstopper among the snacks, though. The house made pate is a fantastic accompaniment for the drinks. It's a must have if you like that sort of thing. The decor is lighthearted and artsy, the bar stools comfortable (and stylish!!) and the service friendly. The music was old school country during my visit - think Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash... We had a really good time here grabbing drinks but were very disappointed in the lack of specialty cocktails, which the former place was known for and decor suggests is still the highlight. The menu consisted of very basic beer and wine and nothing special for cocktails. We probably won't be back unfortunately with nothing unique to offer. The place before it had nearly identical decor and didn't make it even though they had a much better drink selection. I sadly don't expect this place to last unless they find something unique to bring people here. read more

Big fan of this spot for a pre or post event cocktail, or happy hour! Very cozy bar stools, super cool vibe and lighting, and bartenders are always friendly and attentive. They've got 4 panini options along with snacks like nuts, chips, pretzels, and what the bartender from Philly told us was a cheese board with an incredible value for what they were charging - I want to say it was $12, but may be wrong about that. We didn't end up getting it, only because my friend doesn't like cheese (WUT). We came before a wedding and I got a glass of rosé and was very pleased with the size of the pour! My friend got a Hendricks gin and tonic and it went down easily. We split a deliciously crispy panini with salami and roasted red pepper to hold us over through the ceremony, and then headed on our way to witness the I do's. I was really surprised how nice this was inside. It is more of a cocktail lounge than a standard bar. I had a really good Manhattan. The lighting is understated. Most of the high top tables are best for two or three people. Four people are tight but there are couches available for bigger groups. We were there for DJ Trivia on Wednesday. The place really filled up for that. It got the evening off to a good start. read more

Super cool place! Very cute with the pink lighting, eclectic unexpected decor & chandeliers. Definitely a fresh combination. Being middday on a Saturday, there weren't too many other customers but it began to fill in without being crowded. I also saw a group come in and use their front area couches, who seemed to be regulars and love the place. Great menu of cocktails and super friendly bartenders. The menu was somewhat limited, which makes sense with mostly a bar setup. I tried the mug of Mac and cheese, which was delish. (Very peppery in case that isn't your thing) I saw others with the charcuterie board which looked impressive too. Will be visiting again! read more

Visited here by the suggestion of a friend. The bartender knew of the cocktail I wanted, which very few do. So, that was exciting and a relief. I like the decor and it's relatively groovy in a way. It also didn't hurt that I got a handshake when I entered the bar because of the pro-abortion shirt I had on. So, I'm on board with at least that person's politics. I took off one star because, for as few people as there were in the place, the bar was playing the music too loudly. I couldn't hear my friend after awhile, so we had to leave. read more

Thank you for re-opening a business here, offering $4 shots and checking IDs. The crowd wasn't crazy (for a Friday night) which I'm wondering what the future holds. When I asked what the vibe was the answer was: We're not trying to encourage any type of drink here, there is a big variety and if you don't know what you want - I can figure out what you like and make something for you. I have tons of fun whenever I come here. The bartenders are beyond friendly and always seem like they're in a good mood. They make really yummy cocktails and offer paninis, which are great when you have munchies/drunchies. It seems like a place where everyone is welcome - you see folks dressed up and down. This downtown spot is great if you want to have a cocktail or glass of wine, listen to great music and talk to your friends. The seating is very comfortable from cozy barstools to stuffed chairs with colorful pillows. They have crazy cool wallpaper, fine art and all sorts of interesting nicknacks to look at. Great choice of liquor and wines. lots of chandeliers hanging from the ceiling create a very hip atmosphere without the pretension. The bar menu consists of Panini's , cheese platter, olives and light snacks. Great place to come before a show or event downtown. The decor alone makes it a must see stop. We were pleasantly surprised by the many beer, mead, and cider selections offered at Crabapples. Our bartender, Katie, was helpful and well versed on the different beer and mead choices. She offered us some slices of pizza as we were hungry as well as thirsty. This is definitely a dive bar, but a great one!

Food-wise, we ordered a sampler featuring their steak sandwich with caramelized onions, house-made chips, 3 wings, and potato salad. I don't know if this will be offered in the future or if it was more for their soft opening. The steak sandwich was the standout for me. It came with a piece of strip steak that may not have been the fanciest cut, but it was flavorful and hit the spot. The chips were perfectly crunchy and dangerously addictive. I honestly could've eaten an entire bag of them. The potato salad was another pleasant surprise, creamy and flavorful without being overloaded with onions like so many versions are. If the reopening weekend is any indication, Mohawk Place is a great bar to grab a drink, and enjoy some surprisingly good food.

House of Charm has a nice vibe, with decent drinks and a cozy atmosphere. I enjoyed my time there, but the service was a bit slow and the seating felt cramped at times. Overall, it's an okay spot for a casual night out, but don't expect anything too fancy. Worth a visit if you're nearby! read more
