The duck breast was overcooked (which was disappointing), all 3 of our kids burgers were burnt/overcooked (none of them ate them and our kids will eat anything), then, we had the pork belly which was EXCELLENT! So flavorful (I would order this again), and last, the Nicoise salad which was ok. I'm glad to say that when I pointed out the overcooked burgers to our waitress she had them removed from our check. If you were looking for a traditional country pub though it's probably more on the stylish gastro end of the spectrum. That said, the food we had from starters to desserts was superb. Our group, which included a baby and a toddler, were well taken care of and we had a large table tucked away from the main dining area where we could spread out a bit. You can't travel light with young 'uns! Sunday roasts and British dishes head the menu, though the selection for all courses was pretty extensive - I opted for their oak-smoked chicken liver pâté followed by the Sunday roast platter (roast beef, roast turkey and loin of pork) and then sticky toffee and apple pudding (because dessert). Their bar stock includes cask-conditioned beers, real ales and bottles which was good to see. As a designated driver though, I was on the blackcurrant and lemonade! Service was attentive throughout and we were never made to feel rushed at any point. A super venue for a lazy Sunday lunch - will definitely return.

The gorgeous design was filled with beautiful flowers and the architecture offered dining rooms, lounge chairs and sofas as well as a well-stocked bar and a diminutive yet purposeful dancefloor. All this in a town-centre, original old wooden building. Every course of the wedding meal was exceptional. A starter of sharp goats cheese tart was surpassed by an amazing tasting selection of lamb before a stellar creme brullee topped off a set of courses that would've been amazing just for one couple, let alone served simultaneously to 100+ people. The great food didn't end there, as luxury mini mince pies were dished out with fresh tea and coffee before much dancing and casino fun led to midnight snacks of superb lamb burger sliders. Those sliders!! To top the whole night off the local wedding DJ turned out to be 'Our Billy' from Bread (TV). Thank you. We brought my aunt for lunch, there were three of…read moreus plus an ancient lurcher. My aunt is recently out of hospital, has lost one arm and had surgery on her remaining hand. She is very self-conscious and has difficulty cutting food with one partly-functioning hand, and hates fuss. She was at ease in a quiet corner and had the confidence to ask if there was any possibility of having an omelette. The chef agreed, offered a range of toppings and instead of feeling like an inconvenience, my aunt felt like a queen. Today was the first time she's had a meal, having been unable to eat more than toast recently. She had a little giggle with other diners and was amazed at the care staff gave to our old dog. We took her home, tired, happy and well-fed, to have a sleep. I cannot express how grateful I am for all the trouble and care Dana? (apologies for spelling ) Chef and your f.o.h staff took to bring her happiness. The food was terrific, and so was the beer.
