Dr. Kelly, his PA and the TCO PT team were fantastic taking me through a bilateral total knee replacement. I'd been going to TCO for years with occasional knee issues and other unrelated injuries. My experiences with them were always very good. Great attention paid by the physicians and PAs, and a nice facility as well. Eventually I decided to get TKR in both knees so that I could put the pain and occasional mobility issues behind me. Through the use of their Excel program, everything was handled in one complete package from surgery to overnight recover to PT and all follow-ups. I am thrilled with the care and attention I received and the results were what I had hoped for. read more

As well as the surgery went and my recover is going, I cannot say I would recommend anyone to TCO / Excel for their care. The billing has been very frustrating. I was told I had to pay 7 days in advance, the amount remaining of my deductible / out of pocket expense. I paid the $4000.00 that was required out of my HAS account on 06-01-2026. The problem is this payment was never relayed to Medica. So to Medica, I still had the full amount of remaining out of pocket to meet. I am getting Medica EOBs and bills where I owe payment even though my early payment for the hip surgery brought me to within $100 of my max out of pocket. I now have the challenge of tracking all my other bills, EOBs and payments and then somehow convey those to Medica and to TCO Excel to figure how to get a refund for payments beyond my max out of pocket total. Taxes may be an issue if it cannot be refunded back into my HAS account (HSA account is tax differed). This is very frustrating. If I could go back, I would not have paid the up front money or would have gone a different route for my hip replacement and not use TCO Excel. I have hand disk replacement in my back, the early surgery on my hip, and my wife had a hip replacement. No prepayment was required for those surgeries and billing was not as confusing or required effort on my part to track my payments. read more

Appointment felt rushed and incomplete. I was previously told I needed a knee replacement by another surgeon in another state, but TCO thought that my knee didn't look that bad. I can barely walk, squat, bend, or kneel, but what do I know? I do know I'll find another surgeon who can help me, because the cortisone shot didn't do jack. read more

I had followed with Dr. Ryggi for 7 plus years with bone on bone arthritis in my knee. I received HA injections with very good results, but they stopped working. Dr. Ryggi retired so I then saw his partner, Dr. Brian O'Neill and we tried cortisone - it worked one time only. I then had total knee replacement in September as part of the Excel Program. It was an amazing experience! Staff was great, surgery went very well. I had 8 weeks of PT with Brian in Maple Grove. The first 3 weeks were tough - but then thinks improved immensely. I returned to work at 8 weeks and now 10 weeks out I feel fantastic! Absolutely no pain - I even walked 3 miles yesterday. As my daughter tells everyone, I am a new person! I had a total knee replacement done by Dr. Kelly. Their business is very efficient, clean, and professional. Immediately after the operation though, I commented that it didn't feel right. I was told that was normal. For the next 6 months on every checkup I continued to comment that it didn't feel right and was told again that was normal. On my final checkup at the 1 year mark I commented that it still hurt and it was still swollen. Dr. Kelly replied flippantly "well...it's better than it was, right?"" 6 months later I moved and saw another orthopedic surgeon. They immediately said that my operation was faulty, withdrew 60 CC of fluid buildup from my knee, and told me I needed revision surgery to correct it. I went to another orthopedic surgeon for another opinion. He took one look at my x-ray and said "Ah...a Stryker model 3. Where did you have this done?" I told him Minneapolis. He said "Twin Cities Orthopedics?" I was surprised. When I confirmed he said "I do more revisions of their work and this implant than any other." So, now just 2 years after getting my knee done I'm having it redone. For 2 years it's been swollen and painaful. The joint is loose and I can't walk long distance, swim, or do many other activities. To say I am unhappy with the results, and TCO's dismissive attitude towards my constant comments that it wasn't right, would be a severe understatement. read more

I had an absolutely horrible experience with TCO at Burnsville. They did not call in pre-op meds in a timely manner. They did not provide my primary care doc an electronic pre-op physical form, even after calling and sending two emails. They did not work with my insurance or Southdale, where their surgeon did my surgery, so the billing was all messed up. They tried to charge me hundreds of more dollars than I actually owed, and when I called their business office, they provided the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I hope this review prompts some changes and others do not have to go through the same thing. read more

After 4 weeks of accelerating knee pain, my wife heard about TCO from a friend and made me an appointment. I had tried all the usual that I figured a general practitioner would normally charge me for including "taking it easy" icing it, Ibuprofen. I upped my regimen of glucosamine, turmeric and even concentrated tart cherry juice and a couple visits to my favorite chiropractor. Dr. Fey ordered X-rays and sat down with me to explain that there was nothing structural or muscular, but that I had (normal) arthritis for a 64 year old and some inflammation in that knee. He gave me a cortisone shot and told me to continue the icing and also work on straightening and flexing the knee physical therapy stuff. My pain level went from an 8 to about a 2 that same day and this morning it's at a .5 with almost no limp. I did continue the Ibuprofen, which he recommended and I've kept up the icing, which he also said would reduce the inflammation. I can't say everyone will be as lucky with outcomes as I was, but I will say the treatment care from check in to exit was all 5-Star! BTW, When I told my wife, her response wasn't "good" but "It's too bad you wasted those 5 weeks in pain!" read more

Slipped on the last stair getting ready for work. Nasty elbow fracture. From the surgeon all the way to P.T. I was well taken care of. They made sure I wasn't in pain, at least that they could control. I have nearly full range of motion and it rarely slows me down. The stitches look bad but the scar is almost invisible now. I am having some ongoing foot pain and decided it was time to be seen. I was able to get an appointment very quickly, to my great relief and surp rise! Once there I found the office to be new and very clean. The front desk staff was welcoming and efficient. I was taken back on time and felt well cared for. Emily and Dr. Seybold are both kind. I give them 1 star for the doc who performed a total knee replacement on my right leg. If I could score TCO a negative number? That would be the rank for the surgeon who performed an "ankle fusion" on my left foot a year ago (4/18). I am currently crippled on my left side. I will have to wear a custom BOOT-type orthotic for the rest of my life-unless I have two reconstructive surgeries down the road if the BOOT doesn't help with the excruciating pain in my ankle and arch. The doctor who performed this crippling effect-so-called-ankle fusion at Burnsville TCO....a year later sent his PA in the waiting room to announce to me that I would need another fusion to "correct" the first fusion. Hmmm, nice job dude, right? Who does that? Who doesn't show up for the appointment I made to see him-NOT HIS PA?!? Dr. Ebeling, that's who! Well I took my crippled over to the orthotic dept where disaster continued to run rampant. This was on July 8, 2019 people! My leg was casted for a custom orthotic to be ordered on my behalf. However, it appears that the orthotic department had a problem reaching me by the two numbers I gave them. Ahem! A month went by! Hmm no one contacted me, but the assistant swears she left "multiple messages" for me. Wow. Okay. So I finally get the ball rolling for the order by going there in person and demanding to speak to "Corey" the orthotist. And then 2 MORE weeks go by. Still no orthotic but this time, the assistant has agreed to email me instead since the phone option wasn't successful. Guess what? I call and leave assistant a message to call me back and magically my phone is working because she actually gets a hold of me. And guess what? She has NO RECOLLECTION OR NOTE THAT SHE WAS SUPPOSED TO EMAIL ME WHEN THE BOOT ARRIVED!!! I kid you not! And may I add..it is now almost 6 weeks since I was casted for this orthotic. And the assistant just glided right into her next question of when would I like to pick it up? I am picking up my boot tomorrow 8/29. Almost 8 weeks later and originally I was told it would only take 2-3 weeks !!! If I have reconstruction on my ankle to correct Dr. Ebeling's work? I am taking my ankle to Mayo Clinic where I currently receive QUALITY medical care for my rare blood disease. read more

I have gone here in Burnsville for 5-6 years or more, I see 3 Doctors, Dr Kock for my hands, Dr. Johnson and Neil for my knees and shoulders, and I had a complete shoulder revisal in Feb. with Dr. Syminet, Great Doctors, they know you and are very informed on you and your injury's. I have had 3 surgery's in there Mn.Valley in the clinic hosp. I love it there, no long questions, you are in and out. Not like Fairview! They don't care if you bleed to death, I needed my dressing changed after the total Shoulder, and no one would do it! I had blood running down the front and the back, finally at 3 am they changed the bed and dressing! I hate it at Fairview, maybe just a bad day for them? I have never waited long for appointment! Always friendly and I love all my Doctors! the gals behind the desks are the best! Check them out! I don't get the bad reviews! Maybe they had a bad day all the time! I had a 12:50 appointment, arrived at 12:30 to fill out new patient profile, ended up leaving without seeing an MD at 1:35, as his nurse said he was still with a patient and there was another one before he could see me, so it would have been another 30 minutes at least. Ridiculous and disrespectful! To top it off, when first brought into the room, the nurse said I needed X-rays, I said I was just there for a consult regarding knee pain, she insisted so I went along. My first appointment with Dr. Joe Nemanich. Appt at 6pm, it's 6:38 pm and no one has come in to take any x-rays on my knees since the assistant Amy came in initially to evaluate what I was in for. Horrible PT CARE. I had to open the door to get any attention. 6:42pm after asking Amy what's going on why I haven't had the x-rays done she says sorry I'll get on it. 4 mins later they come and get me to take x-rays. 6:50 Dr is at the door maybe ready to give me the diagnosis. I work in the healthcare industry and have seen Dr. Langer before but not a great experience here on this side. Good diagnosis physical therapy is recommended no surgery! I was asked to have my son here by 7:45 to complete forms. We arrived promptly, completed the forms, and sat. And sat. It's now 9:15 (90 minutes since we arrived) and we still haven't seen a doctor. (We were told initially that the delay was because they were waiting for an examining room to free up, but when we were finally taken to an examining room there were at least five unoccupied rooms that we passed on our way down the hall.) read more

I was referred to a Dr. Larson who is supposedly a top surgeon for hips in Minnesota. Never did see him as he looks at MRIs first then sees patients. So I got a message on my phone from Brittany in his office that Dr. Larson cant help as I have really bad arthritis and need a hip replacement click. Well I never had my MRI gone over with me or even a hip exam. I'm a competitive athlete and this was the most horrible phone call. That information should never be left on the phone. No referral, no if you have any questions call. This is called doctoring by MRI which is a horrible as my family physician calls it. I did see some one at TRIA who did go over the MRI and did a hip exam then we did a discussion. Hip replacement if ever needed way down the line and I have the beginning stages of arthritis not "really bad arthritis" told to me by Brittany. She is not medically trained to leave these messages. How about this: "The doctor looked at your MRI and thinks that another MD would be more appropriate for your hip we will give you a referral." I did call patient advocate but she never called me back. The information she gave my clinic was more appropriate. I did talk to her but got an insincere apology. United Health Care is stepping in as this is not quality care. This isn't the first time I've gotten doctoring by MRI at TCO. Don't go to urgent care either as they didn't even give me good information about a stress fracture. My MD could have done it better. read more

I've been treated at this clinic since 2010. Two total knee replacements in 2011/12 from Dr. J. Patrick Smith. A terrific surgeon! I had drug reaction problems after my first surgery, so on the second surgery he suggested I consider a "tens unit". He gave me a phone # of the rep so I could ask questions since he had not tried this himself. The rep worked with me and delivered a sterile unit right before the surgery. Almost no pain! A wonderful option and was glad Dr. Smith referred me to the rep for questions above and beyond his experience. After an automobile accident, Dr. Koch performed two hand surgeries and worked closely with PT. Also have had two trigger fingers released using their surgery unit with no negative issues. I have no complaints with the Edina or Burnsville offices. Nurses, PT, office staff and docs. Great place. My husband also had rotator cuff surgery there with no negative issues. read more

This review is of the Burnsville location but they probably all run the same. I went there for a slight chronic pain on the left side of my neck. I can actually feel sort of a knot there and was concerned that it may be more than muscle tissue. Actually I still am. Since it is chronic I felt I needed to seek medical attention. A most disappointing experience. The doctor took 45 minutes after they did an x-ray to see me. He basically said all people degenerate and that's the problem. I am not a doctor but this is muscle tissue, not degenerative bone disease. He did a quick neurological check, decided nothing was wrong in my head and told me I could take ibuprofen. That's it. He also told me to be evaluated by a Physical Therapist, (PT) and wrote that up. So 2 hours later, I have a medical opinion that nothing can be done but taking a pill - something I could have done anyway. Profound disappointment. And this medical opinion cost me well over $400. I so wish I would have just skipped this and just went for a massage. Anyway I have never been to a PT so thought I better go since the doc certainly didn't do anything that helped. She didn't do a lot either (not that I expected a lot) except to tell me to sleep differently. She felt around, found that knot and said it was definitely there (surprise!). I thought possibly she had a device or some kind of machine etc, that might loosen up the muscle but no luck. If I'd known I would have cancelled the appointment. I did cancel the follow up appointment. This little episode with the PT cost about $260. And guess what? NOTHING HAS CHANGED. Upshot: I spend almost $700 to get no relief for a tight muscle on the side of my neck. It's still there, still painful, and very annoying. I had surgery to repair my torn labrum in my shoulder. I couldn't be happier with the job done and the results so far. The staff is mostly friendly. Do expect that your appointments will get moved around a lot to include surgery date. I was called on a Tuesday that my Friday surgery was moved to Wednesday morning. When I called back to explain that might not work, nobody called me back after I left that message. I was forced to move it to "tomorrow" or potentially get pushed out. I have also had a terrible experience having to wait up to an hour after my designated appointment time to get in to see the doctor. Overall terrible customer service and a lack of "give a s#%^" is generally seen. I'm on the fence of whether I would suggest it to you or not. Your call now... read more

I had spinal fusion and decompression surgery this fall. I could not be more pleased and grateful for the care and results from the procedure performed by Dr. Crowe. All of my appointments were on time efficient and my questions all were addressed. I had a number of additional questions leading up to the surgery an received answers via email or telephone call within a day of asking. IF you are planning a surgery here, please read this. The nurses did NOT monitor my oxygen/blood pressure (both are in room.) She left me alone in the bathroom while she went to get my ice--- I couldn't feel my leg because of my surgery (normal- but never leave a patient on narcotics and barely able to walk alone in the bathroom. After surgery, a nurse indicted her shift was over, so they brought me to my room to spend the night and I was left unattended for almost 30 minutes, not hooked up to anything and not even fully in my room- very serious safety issues here. The nurse was such in a hurry to get rid of her patients in the morning, SHE DIDN'T EVEN WHEEL ME OUT TO OUR CAR!! I could barely walk. Stay at a hospital that has access to emergency equipment should you require it. read more

This is a review on Dr. Paul Crowe. I have been a patient at TCO for many years I normally see Dr Kruse and Dr Berry and they are excellent Doctors however I wouldn't take my pet rat to see Dr Paul Crowe. He is the rudest, egotistical, non caring individual I have ever met. I saw Dr Crowe about 2 years ago for back and leg pain. After physical therapy and a MRI I consented to Decompression surgery with a fusion of L 3-4 and L 4-5 with rods and screws for stabilization. I went to Unity Hospital not knowing that he doesn't use Unity often. After the surgery he approached my family and said "boy, she must have been taking a lot of aspirin because she really bled". I never took aspirin or any blood thinners. He then left the hospital. I don't think he came back for two days. He left me bleeding and had no clue that I was hemorrhaging. I was never so sick in my life and no one seemed to know what was going on with me for 2 days. Finally someone realized that my hemoglobin was down to 5 and ordered blood for me. Dr Crowe eventually showed up and told me I could go home but the house doctor took over my care and kept me there for 2 more days. Come to find out in 2 more MRI, it doesn't appear on film that L4 was ever fused. I am now going to a pain clinic as my back and leg pain are so intense I can't walk. The pain clinic has now put a spinal cord stimulator in my back hoping to give me my life back. I have seen 2 other spine surgeons and they are extremely reluctant to operate again. One Dr went so far as to say I'm a train wreck. When I went back and saw Dr Crowe all he could say was "I can't do anything more for you". I will never refer anyone to Dr Crowe. TCO is great but I don't know how they can keep Crowe in there practice. read more

Made an appointment last week. Three times were offered to me for Monday 2/5/18. Appointment was made with Dr. Hartman. An hour later , Dr. Hartman came in. I mentioned that it had taken an hour to see him. And he said he had some elderly patients that took longer. (However, the entire office was filled with elderly patients). I said I totally understand that elderly patients can take longer time but he should account for that in his scheduling. He said, people complain about seeing PA's. I said I don't have problems seeing PA's. After I said this, Dr. Hartman unprofessional and abruptly left the room. He was going to have is PA evaluate me. He then proceeded to have the office manager speak with me. I was directed to another Dr. who finished the evaluation. read more

So this review is for Dr. Paul Crowe. I'll try to make this short and sweet. I've had back issues for a few years. I've tried everything under the sun to fix it. I finally decided to have a surgeon look at it so I could move on with my life. I ended up going to Dr. Crowe and having a Lumbar Decompression. Everything was ok up until after the surgery. Nobody came to talk to me or tell me anything. I woke up in severe pain and had to beg for something to ease the pain. Dr. Crowe stuck his head in the room and asked if I could still move my legs. Once he saw me move my legs he turned around and walked out. Then I had to beg for pain drugs to take home. I was told " we don't do that". This is 30 minutes after I woke up from surgery. I would never have let him touch me if I'd known how they treat you. It's been a month since the surgery and my back doesn't feel any better than it did before I went in. If you choose TCO I would recommend you choose a different Doctor. I get treated better and more info when I get the oil changed on my car. I would never recommend Dr. Crowe to anyone. I have had the worst problem with my bill from here, I have been doubled billed for my childs fracture care that he recieved there. When I called to complain I spoke with one of the rudest customer service represenatives that I have ever dealt with. My insurance company had also denied the charge that we were trying to bill me for but they said I still had to pay it I have filed a complaint with my insurance company after dealing with multiple rude people at this office. I will be visiting Tria from now on. If you do go here be sure to check your bill carefully and if you disagree with be sure to get your insurance company involved. read more

I saw Dr. Meyer in Woodbury and in Eagan. He was the second dr. I tried with TCO. The first visit should have clued me in and I should have ran! I had all the paperwork, my x-ray and MRI files with me. He took the pictures and said he would be back. I sat in the room for 45 minuets before he popped in and said he was waiting for paperwork from my dr back home, then left. I chased after him, but he had disappeared. A nurse saw me and got him. I handed him the ppwk, he said nothing about the wait. He gave me a prescription for OT and I was on my way. I went back for a couple follow up visits. He was insistent that I had a nerve problem although I had no signs, no numbness, no tingeing, no cold or hot sensation. The EMG was negative as was the MRI for nerve or any pinching. He said nerves are funny and don't show signs always. They didn't do any of those other tests so don't trust those that did. My fingers hurt because I had arthritis in them although there was no other signs of this except pain. After several cortizone shots in various places on my arm, wrist etc, (He treated me for carpal tunnel which I don't have) he said I was a candidate for surgery and I should make an appointment right away. He was going to reroute my nerves in my arm, all of them, and carpal tunnel release. I went home to get a different opinion and tried TRIA. The doctor there said I have severe tennis elbow which is a tendon issue and surgery on my nerves would not have done anything. She prescribed a cortizone shot in my elbow followed up with OT. I am now on the mend without cutting anything open! My fingers do not hurt, my writs does not hurt and my upper arm doesn't hurt. All that's left is my elbow. read more

If u want to feel like medical cattle this is ur place. After making me wait a half hour after my scheduled appointment I finally got inside the little tiny room. Where I had to wait another 20 mins before seeing the doctor. So when I do finally get to see the doctor I am expecting a chance to figure out what's going on with my ankle. He gives me a quick reply of its not broken, which I already knew. And that was it. And he shooed me out of the room. This place was a waste of my time, gas, and money. I want my copay back. When I think how much they'll get from my insurance company I get sick. The doctors you can get in to see ASAP are crap docs. That's why their time slots are open. If you want to see a good doctor here, you have to wait months. Only good thing about the place was that they had cute nurses. read more

This review relates primarily to TC Orthopedic's surgery center, which is located directly below their Burnsville office. They have an ownership interest in the facility, which makes the comments below relevant to their practice. My spouse recently had a fairly minor procedure at this facility. Prior to choosing MN Valley Surgery, we researched the cost of using them vs. a traditional hospital such as Fairview Ridges. We were assured their costs (facility fees) would be comparable. When the bill finally was processed, there was a large difference. To make a long story short, it cost us roughly $3K extra to use MN Valley vs. a comparable hospital. The billed facility charges for a two hour (at maximum) procedure were over $10K. This does not include anesthesia or the surgeon's fee. That is absolutely ridiculous. MN Valley is at least partially owned by Twin Cities Orthopedics. This is not something they share upfront. What that means is they have every incentive to refer you to their own facility for surgery. This ensures the highest level of profit vs. having to share it with Fairview or others. I would HIGHLY encourage anyone considering them to carefully consider an alternative. You have numerous other choices as to where you have surgical procedures performed, and costs are more competitive than you might think. Unfortunately, there is almost no transparency in health care. I saw Dr. Teynor and then Dr. David Anderson at TCO. They were awful so I went to Tria. I had 10 days to get my records from TCO but they would not let me come in and get them, even though I live only 6 blocks away. They said "we don't take walk-ins. We are way too busy for that." They made me send a written request. They emailed me, promising the records would be to Tria by the date of my appt. I was extremely disappointed when I arrived for my 4 pm appointment that day and the records and xrays had not been transferred. This is the reason insurance costs are exorbitant. Their staff and doctors are not friendly and there is no follow through. When I asked Dr. Teynor to sign a document so I could get a handicap sticker for my car, he refused. My primary physician thought that was ridiculous and he filled out the form for me. I switched to Dr. David Anderson and he scared the crap out of me, showing me the knee replacement appliance and doing nothing to assure me that such surgery would be successful. My visit at Tria was phenomenal. There were no looks of judgement like I got at TCO. Everyone was friendly and helpful. I had to call HealthPartners to make sure it would be ok for me to have new xrays taken. They approved it, thank God. I'm sure TCO would have rejected that request too, if it had been in their power.
