Just stopped by here today as a quick little side-trip from Miramar Beach. A Bayou by the way is a…read morebody of brackish water (freshwater/salt water) mix. We went to the day-use area which features one .75 mile trail into the woods, as well as a pathway along one side of Bayou. The trail was nice, flat and full of shade. I learned a lot about the local plants. Bayou/Lake very scenic. the bathroom also was maintained and clean. A great little side trip!

The day area restrooms were closed but there was one for guests to use at the ranger station. They were also renovating the camp sites so all of the trails in the back of the park were closed. The one open trail was only .75 miles so we did a few laps and walked along the bayou for some steps. I would like to return when the trails are open and see the rest of the park.

We stayed at the campground and it was clean, and the hosts would pick up the trash at every site every morning. We liked that it had full hookups, we expected it to only have electricity and water. We didn't like that our RV campsite was very small and the position where the fence posts were located as well as the grill, that made it even harder to backup with our RV. We stayed on site 2, number 1 and 2 were the smallest ones we saw on our side. If we had known when we booked we had probable looked somewhere else. The bathrooms and showers were ver clean and nice but the building was cold.

Now, there is a developed parking area, a mile-long boardwalk with lots of places to rest, walk down to the water, swim, etc. There are signs describing flora and fauna. The park even has a Pavillion large enough for sizable gatherings and events. There is security present and it seems very family friendly. I am impressed. Niceville has grown up. I loved walking the boardwalk and memory lane simultaneously...

The water was a bit chilly in the low 60s but it was refreshing to swim in when the outside temperature hit 80s. The water was crystal clear on the day we went but I read it could be murky after the rain. It's much bigger than Ponce de Leon which is about 8 minute drive from there so you can even kayak or paddle board. I would highly recommend if you're visiting Panama City area if you need a slight change of scenery.

Beautiful park to take a walk in. We came for a couple of hours to check it out. You pay at the…read moreentrance, bring cash. It's the honor system. You put four dollars in an envelope. Parking was easy and plentiful. The house is pretty and the trees surrounding it are really cool. You can tour the house but we did not do that since we had little kids with us. There's a small gift shop where the tours start. There's a fountain in front of the house with koi in it but the water was full of algae. It was really hard to see the fish. I felt bad for them. There's a butterfly garden on the side of the house and we did see butterflies, dragonflies, bees and even a little frog. You can walk out on a pier over the water. There are picnic areas there of you would like to bring a lunch. Some of the water areas have warnings about gators and the trails have warnings about bears. Fortunately we did not run into either.

The release was at 9am and we knew we…read moreneeded to get there early but wow, the line was down the street from the main entrance on both sides, making the entrance to the booth where you pay tedious. It was $6 per carload and we found parking easily in the large lot. There were three main access points to the sand and the release was happening at the one nearest to the front gate. It was a short walk from our parking spot as we were parked just past the second access point. The set up was wonderful and sand and water temperature great! People were lined up and respectful and the turtle release was beautiful. I can see how this would be a great beach to spend the day at.

Nobody was friendly. I asked if I could just pull over to the side and try to search up a new beach to go to. They said no I have to leave the park.. I can't tell you if it's a nice beach or not because we weren't allowed in. Make sure you get a reservation good luck they said they were full on a Tuesday at 10 AM.
