We decided to take an excursion north of the emerald coast and found this charming little lake. It is first come first serve based on the parking situation. We were fortunate to arrive there around noon and allowed in for $4 per car to go into the parking lot and then walked about 200 feet to a small beach with a few benches, a couple of tables on the beach (state park style) and also a covered picnic area. The small beach had a walkway to another area which was the jump in/dive in area of the spring fed lake. The water was cool, but definitely swimmable as there were warm currents mixed with the cold currents from the spring. Reportedly, the water is too cool for alligators which are found more at the mouth of the river feeding this area. We spent around an hour just floating around in the area. Didn't feel cold while in the water (outside temp 84 degrees). People had floaties, tubes, and even paddle boards. There were a few scuba divers as well! Bring your snorkels and other floatation equipment if you want to spend time just floating and looking a the bottom for some interesting scenery under water.

When we went, we did the boat tour as well, it was pretty cheap for an hour tour and we got to experience the beautiful nature and wildlife. Afterwards, we went swimming in the little lake area, which was extremely refreshing!

If you were turned away at Ponce de Leon Springs because it was too full, or you have a craving to…read morescuba some spring fed caves, or you want a less crowded place to swim in cool 70°F spring water, or a place to climb a tree and jump from a rope swing- this is the place for you! Free entry. Bathrooms. Small parking lot. Outdoor shower and scuba rinse station. A couple picnic tables. Nice big boardwalk around waters with signage that describes trees nearby. Deep waters with cement docks that have ladders. Some people have placed ladders on trees and hung ropes from the trees for swinging into the deeper waters if you dare. Good place for good swimmers... not much shallow area and clarity may vary based on recent storms or flooding. If you don't have good swimmers bring a life jacket or floaties to make the most of the deeper waters.

We go diving (we're locals) there weekly and we've had issues with people taking our food while we're under water (bags of chips). But if it's not during peak-season, and you're looking for a place to dive... this is fantastic. Much more clear than Vortex (too much algae in the water there... one person bounces off the bottom and vis goes to shit). Much more forgiving at Morrison. The "wash" station is really nice to rinse gear off afterwards. Can pull the car up to the gazebo and drop gear then park. short walk into the water. Great viz the overwhelming majority of the time. My normal dive go-to.

Falling Waters State Park initially felt a bit small when we arrived, but as we continued to…read moreexplore, we quickly realized it was much larger than we first assumed. Our first stop, of course, was the sinkholes and waterfall. While the waterfall itself felt a little underwhelming considering it's described as the highest waterfall in the state, the experience was still quite serene. Hearing the water drop, feeling the cool breeze from the running water, and simply pausing to take it all in made the stop worthwhile. We were a bit disappointed to find that parts of the trail system were closed off, which limited some of our planned exploration. That said, we kept walking and were able to find other trails to enjoy. We ended up wandering around for about two hours, though we know we didn't get to see everything the park has to offer. One of my favorite unexpected features was the dedicated bat habitat area, which was both interesting and unique. Overall, it's a peaceful park with more to discover than meets the eye, and a nice place to spend a couple of hours exploring nature.

Beautiful park to take a walk in. We came for a couple of hours to check it out. You pay at the…read moreentrance, bring cash. It's the honor system. You put four dollars in an envelope. Parking was easy and plentiful. The house is pretty and the trees surrounding it are really cool. You can tour the house but we did not do that since we had little kids with us. There's a small gift shop where the tours start. There's a fountain in front of the house with koi in it but the water was full of algae. It was really hard to see the fish. I felt bad for them. There's a butterfly garden on the side of the house and we did see butterflies, dragonflies, bees and even a little frog. You can walk out on a pier over the water. There are picnic areas there of you would like to bring a lunch. Some of the water areas have warnings about gators and the trails have warnings about bears. Fortunately we did not run into either.

However, we also operate a small Education Center, where visitors are able to meet our Animal Ambassadors, or wildlife species that are no longer able to be released into the wild. Our Animal Ambassadors are inside their own private enclosures, and we can not guarantee they will be visible at all times. We also do not currently have the staffing to ensure full-length tours for each visitor, but we try our best to accommodate! Otherwise, the tours can be self-guided and we are an easy going, small nature center that you can go at your own pace, but general visits are less than 35 minutes.
