We had to leave due to parking situation ( street parking on Yonge was max 90 mins) but we could co longer. We should come back. Twister is located on the near the south west corner of Finch and Yonge on the west side. Hey it's been years since me and my gang of karaoke goers have been to a place together. We've been to quite a few, so many that I've lost count because either we ended our evening at a place like this or we've been multiple places in the different Koreatowns. Because it's been a while so much had a chance to change I suppose. Technology just gets better and better I guess and when it applies to Karaoke this place is pretty much up to date. In a Covid world this place has done things to change and adapt considering close quarters and private rooms involving singing were shut down for a period in the greater Toronto area. Microphones have disposable covers that are removed and thrown away by the people using them before handed back to the staff. Vaccination documentation and IDs are checked upon entry as well as signing up contact info. Like the Mandalorians say, "This is the way". This place was very busy. We were lucky to get a room, others that came in shortly after us were told they were full (for a group their size) but that if they left their contact info they'd be told when an opening would happen. We moved into a 3 couch room and were told we've be moved to a smaller room maybe 15 minutes later. That happened and you know what? It was not an inconvenience. Them making room for a larger party to keep business going is just great management of resources. The room we moved to was cozy and made sense for our group. 2 couches here and a smaller room but the same setup. Their console for picking songs is a kiosk type stand but at seating level. This console is the future which is today. This is how karaoke has to be these days. The console is basically a big touch screen tablet system. This system of course has language selection, full search capability into their system and even has options to search online like on YouTube for karaoke versions of songs. This option basically opens up the most obscure or newest music publicly available. So to choices are there and the place is better than decent. I have to say I really liked their system because it basically puts the nail in the coffin for the old paper book systems which are horribly disorganized and archaic for searching. While the soundproofing isn't perfect (we could hear another room's songs and singing) they were drowned out by our own room when we had a song and could only hear them when we had no song playing. read more

This has been my go-to Karaoke spot for the last 8 years, but after the horrible experience I had last night, I will never be going here again. Firstly, when my friends and I showed up, the owners told me that I couldn't bring my water bottle into the room. I offered to let the owner check inside my water bottle if they were worried about me having alcohol in it, but they just rudely dismissed me and insisted that I could not bring the bottle in. Then I asked if they provided free water, and they said no, and that I must pay for water bottles. Secondly, when there was around 1 minute left until our session ended, one of the owners (the one wearing glasses) came into our room and nicely asked us if we were going to extend our session. We told him that we were on our last song and that we would leave the room right after. 2 minutes later, the other owner barged into our room and aggressively asked us if we were going to extend our session. We told him no, so he then proceeded to rudely rush us out of the room, while saying that we were "way over the time limit". Quite an over-exaggeration, considering that it was only 11:03 pm at that moment, and we had reserved a room for 3 hours from 8-11pm. Thirdly, when we were leaving the establishment, one of my friends lined up to pay for our session while my other friends went to wait outside, as the inside entrance area was very small and crowded. As my friends were leaving, the same aggressive owner from before started harassing my friends and I, saying that we hadn't paid yet, even though one of my friends was clearly lined up and waiting to pay. In summary, if you are reading this review and looking for a karaoke bar in the area, I strongly recommend you DO NOT come here. There are many other karaoke spots nearby that won't have rude and aggressive owners & staff ruining your experience that you paid a lot of money for. P.S. To the Twister karaoke management : clearly you guys are more focused on responding to google reviews and gaslighting your customers than on improving your customer service, so I look forward to your response and how you try to justify this one read more

My friends and I are huge kpop fans, so we went here for some kpop karaoke. They have a really good selection of Korean songs and the man and woman running the place are very nice as well. I would definitely recommend this spot if you're looking to sing kpop songs. read more

It's a little dingey, not pretty nor modern nor renovated inside. It's just a bunch of old sofas. And that disco light inside is beyond annoying. BUTTTT, their karaoke machine is actually dece! They have an okay selection of English songs. The lifesaver is that you can just search up Youtube videos to play to compliment their limited playlists. Price is fine! Not expensive at all. Service was fine, we didn't experience any issues when we came. Def recommend if you're bored in the area, but as it's kinda ugly inside I wouldn't organize a get together to be held here. read more

Can't I leave a zero star? Beware of this place. Owner is rude! No compassion. We were parking at the back during snowstorm and since it was only a 2wd car; he commented saying we wouldve been able to park easier had we owned a better car. Closed the door on us and walked away. Since we had friends already waiting inside, he learned that we had a big group. He tried to change his demeanor but we, a group of 15, decided to go to the next door karaoke. Not sure why there are many high ratings, but when I went today the place didn't live up to the expectation. The place is quite old, the rooms definitely needs some renovation. The song selecting process totally surprised me...you order from books!!! Like what century is this, that you still need to remember the name of the song you want and flip though pages of songs to find the code. With big signs both facing Yonge Street and in the back toward the parking lot, if you're looking for this place, you will find it. I came here for Canada Day and was happy to find that my party of 4 did not have to wait for a room. The whole place feels more like a house where some people decided to wall off specific rooms than a dedicated karaoke lounge, so if a dark, club-like atmosphere with the strobe lights is what you're looking for, this is not it. Also we felt pretty squished in the room that we got. The best thing about Twister Karaoke is the ability to find and cue things from YouTube. Say goodbye to restrictive song menus and not being able to find the song you really want to sing! They could really improve upon the sound system and the TV display. It was very jarring to have a subwoofer suddenly turn on mid-song. For some songs that could only be found on YouTube, the lyrics were impossible to read as they were on a white background. All in all, this is a decent, budget karaoke place with private rooms and located in a convenient location. read more

I came here with a few friends since a few of them told me they were regulars here and it was a great karaoke bar. I've read a few reviews here that said the owners are very rude and all but I didn't really experience that, in fact only one person showed us to the room and that was it. Anyways, looking around at the decor, this place did seem very dirty and old. Parts of the room were dusty, etc. The karaoke interface was very easy to use though. You can find a large selection of songs and even search on YouTube of karaoke videos that aren't in their system. This place is a lot of fun - the music is up to date, the more recent videos are just the lyrics but some of the older songs come can come with super awesome awkward and cheesy videos from the 80's. There's English, Chinese, Korean and I think Japanese songs so their collection is extensive. However, they don't have Robin Sparkle's "Let's Go To the Mall", which was a disappointment. Oh well... You book private karaoke rooms so it's not like the Gladstone where you just sing in front of everyone in the bar/restaurant. You can order booze at the front desk (beers, liquors, pop, water etc) and if you're getting hungry, there's instant noodles (!!). Service was attentive and friendly. They had a couple of guys come around to clear our bottles every once and a while. There's Green P parking in the back and you can enter through their back entrance. So it was up to me to find and book a karaoke place in the Yonge and Finch area, and Twister pops up consistently as one of the best. I eventually decided to go with this one because another yelper friend had rave reviews there and it was literally 5 seconds away from where we were going to eat (Nak Won). Making a reservation was REALLY easy so two starts just for that!!! I was having fear of some rude Asian people who would be exasperated by the millions of questions I would have. At first, I called the number and no one picked up. Seconds later, a man called back with perfect English (not that it matters) and told me I could have a room booked for 9, 10 people. Easy Pesasy! Fast forward to Friday night, and a group of us left the restaurant at 9:05 and I got a call - they are en pointe! I told them we were right outside. The rooms are clean, no smell, and not grimy. You get an explanation of how the room and technology works and it's easy: you pop in your number (music choice) and you can actually input many in one go so you can sing in a continuous run. Not sure how one can order drinks, but I had to go back up to reception to place my booze - but I didn't mind. They have your signature Canadian Beers, shots, shoju, and wine. Nothing fancy, but it does the job. For a group of 10, each hour was $50 which was a really good price in my book. You are responsible for your own time. The four star rating is on the price and song selections. They have different size rooms and the prices are pretty decent when you split the cost among the people. It's normally under $20 each person for a few good hours of singing some good ole ballads. they have soju and beer (personal like for soju) and lots of different instant noodles and snacks for purchase. This place reminds me of the norebangs (Korean singing rooms) and comes with fond memories. The rooms could probably use a little bit of upgrading but you're not really in there to admire the decor. The songs are regularly updated and Twister is pretty good of the having the new and fun stuff. They also have songs from in different languages. The location is pretty great, off the yonge line at Finch station, close to 24 hour Korean pork bone soup restaurants and they have a Korean food cart stationed close to their front door. One of my favorite choices for karaoke in the city, compared to Bar+ Twister is a definite winner :) read more

This place has an ok atmosphere and a decent song selection, but has almost no food and a limited drink selection. There are several small rooms for private parties with couches, a table, and a tv. The situation would be ok for me normally because I'm just there to sing, but the staff were very rude and deceitful. I booked a room a week in advance for a party and was quoted a price, but when I went to pay, I was surprised to find that I was being charged more than $100 more than what they had told me on the phone. When I confronted them they got very angry and started yelling at me, saying that they have bills to pay. I am more than happy to pay for a service, but I expect to pay what I've been promised. Also, unlike what is currently posted here, they actually do not take credit. Surprise! And it really was when I was told I had to pay more than twice what they had told me I would be paying. Again, keeping in mind that I called ahead to book... This information would have been nice to have. The staff are unprofessional, immature, and just all around unpleasant people to interact with in a professional setting. I expect more from people more than twice my age and I am embarrassed for them. I would go back as a guest, but this establishment will not get another penny from me ever. It's really a shame, because if the staff had been honest, or at least semi pleasant, there are worse karaoke places. Definitely one of my favourite karaoke places. Great selection but some selections are quite off from the original so we ended up skipping some of our chosen songs. Staff: They are pretty nice. The old man is very very sweet and is very helpful. They are always available to answer questions. The man offered to give a a refresher on how to use the remote so we appreciated that. I do wish the controllers were a little more English friendly but the staff has marked them with English labels to help. Room: We were in the larger room (number 5). It is by far the most comfy room they have and is very clean. It could use a little more sound proofing because we can hear the neighbouring room on certain occasions. Songs: They have an excellent song selection and it is up to date especially for English songs. You can search through their books by title or artist. You can also search their catalogue on the screen was well. They have two systems one has more English and the other has more Asian songs. The Asian system has a lot more flexibility when it comes to tempo and pitch and usually have better quality songs than their English song system. Make sure you ask them to set both up and ask for a tutorial on both if they are new to you. Great option especially if you want more English songs. You will have to call if you want their rates since it varies but if you go earlier they sometimes they have happy hour specials. read more

I've been going to Twister for almost 10 years now and it's my first choice in Kareoke space. They have a VERY GOOD and Extensive collection of old and new English songs. And up to date Chinese songs too, but all Kareoke places have that. They also have other languages like Tagalog and Korean and Japanese. But their English songs collection of the most recent songs (even if it's just lyrics) have been better than most. Granted, that it's not the most cheap (but cheapest among all the yonge/finch spots in the area, i checked once) and does not compare to the fobbier places uptown where they have happy hour. Still, at around $20 and hr and if you have around 4-5 people or more, you're still paying $20 for a good night out, and is affordable. It just takes a lot of convincing for my Chinese song only singing friends to go there on an afternoon when other places have 5 hr happy hour plus 2 free drinks for only $8 a person. I think we only went there once. But it's still my first choice. And if you're choosing between Yonge Kareoke (ghetto-est place on earth) and Twister, go to Twister. It's family owned, friendly and you will ahve a good time. read more

Updated Review: It's been a while since I last came to twister, but this time went with a different group of friends and the experience wasnt so good. Person did a demo of how to use the machine but then afterwards my friend was still unsure and simply wanted to ask for more clarity on how to use it since she wanted to save time because of the timer on machine, it was her first time there and It was her birthday and this person sounded quite rude and didnt appear to want to help her. We left and all decided not to support that type of service. We all felt horrible and it was not a good experience, there were other ones nearby and so we went to SHOUT karaoke instead around the corner. 100x much better! Service should be worked on when some first time customers may want a bit of extra assistance, it shouldn't be too much. Old Review: Fun times! Good memories were made here .. My review is late; however, it's still worth saying that I wouldn't recommend this place at all. The reviews below are quite telling. The staff are quite rude and unprofessional when it comes to customer service. They are not transparent about their pricing and it most likely because they know what they are doing is unethical. First time my friends and I went, everything was fine. Second time we went, we were overcharged significantly. We asked for an itemized receipt to see the charges and they refused to give it to us because they knew we were aware of being charged incorrectly. When we asked about it, one of the male staff members became verbally aggressive. They likely overcharged us because we had a bottle from outside with us the second time we were there. Even so, we did buy alcohol from the establishment while we were there. If we were not allowed outside bottles, they should have asked us to remove the bottle or leave. Instead they took the bottle (which WE paid for and was OUR property) and then proceeded to overcharge us and to this day we don't know why. Unprofessional and not a good way to do business. The walls are covered in stuff and signage is not clear. Consumer Affairs Canada should take a look at these reviews and ultimately the business to see if this business in violation of ethical business practices, especially when it comes to confiscation of others property and charging for services without transparency. read more

I am not a singer by any means! I have known this for years, however, this has never stooped my from singing out load. I enjoy to sing and I do it because it makes me happy. I came here with some friends to sing Korean love songs and ballads, even though not one of us actually speak Korean. There are some songs that have just been translated into Korean from Spanish to I figured that we could guess what they are saying and sing along. Everyone else probably thought we were all crazy! Who doesn't like to belt out their favorite boy band song every once in a while!?? No one that's who! Well Twister is a great place to belt out your favorite tunes, old and new. Twister is located a little South of Finch station, on the West side of Yonge Street. They have the best selection of English pop, rock and oldies I've ever been to. Their song selection system takes some getting used to, it's not as easy as pressing a few buttons (they have Chinese and Korean and maybe some other asian songs too), so pay attention to when the employee explains how to use the system. You can search by song title or artist, male/female/band. The great thing about Twister is that all the rooms are private, so you can invite a bunch of shy people out and just sing your heart out all night. The room prices depend on the size (i.e. number of people), I'm not sure the exact cost, but usually when I go, it's not more than $20 a person. They have a phone in every room. This is used to call over employees if you are having trouble with the system or sound, or if you want to order drinks. They do have alcohol there (HELLO, it's karaoke), as well as pop and such. I'm not sure about the food issue, whether you can bring your own food or order food in, I've never tried. I guess it's not really an efficient use of time if you are all just sitting and eating. Twister makes reservations, so if you have a special event you want to host there (like a bachlorette), just call ahead. read more

They don't allow drinks inside the rooms which I understand but this man snatched our boba out of our hands and placed it at the bottom of the staircase. The audacity. The stars are for the really great service we got from the Mr rather than the Mrs (she was VERY rude) and for their updated English song selection. Unfortunately, they do not have vocals, just the lyrics on screen but that didn't stop is from having a good time. We just had to try a little harder. A lot of the older songs we were looking for were missing. It disappointed a great number of people since newer songs don't have the same singing abilities as the 90s for example. Their systems are outdated. Having trouble understanding why there are so many high praises for this place when there are so many new and improved locations. Another downside is that there is absolutely NO rate shown ANYWHERE. We were a party of 3 who took a single local beer (we just wanted to sing) and stayed for 3 hours and it came up to $78.00. We only went here because it was on our way home and we didn't want to go out of our way to find a karaoke place but as it turns out, this will probably be the last time we go here. read more

I usually go to karaoke with my friends at the karaoke place beside twister, which is Yonge Karaoke, so we decided to try out a different place. As soon as we walked in the staff at the counter greeted us and seemed pretty friendly. He also answered all of our questions confidently. Again, no problem with any of this. The problem is... Once you go into your room to start, you choose from two huge books. One where it's organized by artist and another by song. The selection was very large, yes. It did take a LOT of time to choose, though. It's just a little old fashion and very time consuming as you have to look at each code and input it into the machine. Not only that, I realized a lot of the karaoke versions of the songs were taken off from youtube and will most likely have background vocals. This was a huge turnoff for me. On top of that, every time we sang, the sound that came out was always really pitchy and there were times when the microphone in our room would not work. And lastly, there was no place where the the remaining time was displayed so when the machine shut down, we believed it was just another one of those pretty frequent moments where the system froze. I had a lot of fun visiting TWISTER recently. I found this place online when searching for Toronto's best Karaoke spots and it came up in numerous searches. I think what makes it great are the owners, who are super sweet, and the variety of music available. The tracks are current, and there are a lot of classics too. Great technology for a karaoke machine, almost any song you can think of is there. But I don't like the fact that the owners keep watching everything we're doing in the small little window at the door. My shoes were off but i was just sitting in a crouching position and a lady opened the door and pulled my legs down and told me to calm down. I wasn't jumping, yelling, or doing anything wrong. Another time a man walked in and put the volume down and said someone complained but the rooms are soundproof? This was all in the span of 15 minutes in our 1 hour time. The karaoke next door always adds extra time and we pay the same amount. Never coming back, felt like we were being watched. "Business is Business" The tradition here is to yell at the unhappy customers as they walk out the door dismayed. I went here for my Birthday party this past June and the owner and the older woman who run this place were SO RUDE to my friends and I. If they don't redeem themselves and find their faults, they will go out of business because of their negativity!!! Karma! What happened was, my friend suggested this place, and he doesn't live in North York like I do. I was worried because I remembered going to one of the Yonge and Finch karaoke places and had a bad experience in 2007 for my 15th Birthday party so I was hesitant to go. (Little did I remember it was Twister Karaoke that gave me the bad experience!) You would think it's so long ago that it wouldn't matter which place you'd go to since things change...not this place. We walked in and the man had our room reserved for our time slot. It was a spacious place and we had no hesitation. Until we got into the room, the man explained how to use the machines briefly and demanded to check our bags. He checked my friends' bag, slung it over his shoulder and was about to head upstairs WITH HER BAG! She didn't even have a choice to take it back and leave if she wanted to...this man had her possessions! My friend asked to have her bag back but he said he had to keep it upstairs. She understood but was a little upset because her wallet was in it. We proceeded to play one song which was an outdated Chinese song that wouldn't stop - the controller seemed to be broken. My friend was a pro at karaoke and couldn't figure out how to use the manual or clicker. We were there for under two minutes and decided to leave. The vibe wasn't right. We went upstairs and decided to ask the guy if we could have another room or to explain how to use the controller again. The guy had a short temper and we decided to leave. The woman said we couldn't leave until we payed full price for the room! We all demanded we would not come back as the machine was broken and we refused their service but they still demanded money, "BUSINESS IS BUSINESS!!!" The old woman shouted at us behind the counter. We weren't going to pay full price at being in that establishment for 3 minutes. This is a dirty business if you ask me! We shook our heads to leave, but my friend still had her bag behind the counter with all her money and cards in it. My friend demanded for her bag back before we left. This part was shocking... The woman TOOK my friend's backpack and shook it in front of her face and in front of all of us and shouted "ITS THE ALCOHOL...YEAH!!! ITS THE ALCOHOL RIGHT!? You can't have alcohol so that's why you're leaving!" ...No...we are leaving because the machine is busted, the man took my friends' bag rudely and there is too much negativity to have fun there. Why would we pay for that? As I left I yelled that they were unprofessional, and ruined my Birthday! (they didn't.. ;)... but it was unnecessarily stressful for all of us!) FLASHBACK to June 2007: I turned 15, and decided to have my birthday party with a bunch of my 14 year old friends at Twister Karaoke. My Dad paid for a room and dropped us all off after we had cake at my house. We had a fun time singing and playing in the room...the only downfall was the soft drinks, snacks and water. At that age I wasn't aware that we weren't allowed to have our own drinks in the room. My friends had brought snacks, candy and drinks into the party room and I recall that we left and got yelled at because we didn't know and weren't allowed to have them or something of that sort. It was so long ago that I can't remember but I do remember how bad it felt to be yelled at on my birthday in front of my friends. All I remember was huffing and puffing getting angry defending my friends from these angry human beings who run Twister Karaoke... I remember screaming at the lady "My DAD PAID FOR THIS ROOM SO WE CAN HAVE A GOOD TIME! ITS MY BIRTHDAY!" And I was a 15 year old kid! ....and there I was standing 10 years later defending my college friends on my Birthday of the same horrible experience... Avoid this place if you don't want to get stressed out. These people will obviously have karma get them for the hurt they caused to others. I don't know how its legal to take people's belongings against their will and shame them in front of other patrons. People should have an option to exit, or have their things taken, not fight for their things and have to pay money to leave the building. That is wrong on so many levels. With a right to leave, they should be able to have their things back and exit without harm. I wasn't going to forget about this because it happened TWICE within 10 YEARS! Something should change about the drinking rules, because if its a karaoke place, it should have a full bar and serve a full menu of food. Otherwise, people will naturally bring their own food. I've been to many karaoke places in the GTA. The rooms at twister are extremely small. I went with a group of 12 and we were all dying of heat because of how small the room was and we were in what they considered the larger size rooms. Even with the fan on, it was still incredibly suffocating. I went back another day with a group of 4 people and the man gave us a large room again because he said the smaller ones were all full. However, I found that the room was just right for a group of four. There was room to move and dance and have fun. Do not come here if you are thinking of coming with a large group! However, the thing that made me come back was their music system. Their machine allows you to choose music from YouTube. This allows you to literally have almost all the songs in the world to sing along to at your disposal. Although there are vocals and it's not karaoke style if you choose lyric videos from YouTube, I find choosing songs and that you know will be available is so good. I am not sure that other karaoke places do this. read more

I like this place because it is right at Yonge and Finch, close enough to some near-legendary Korean restaurants. Also another great thing is that unlike many other karaoke places, Twister constantly keeps their song catalog updated. Many of the newest popular songs are available. Possibly my favorite karaoke spot downtown! read more

The place reminds me of hanging out at a cottage, in a good way. The microphones are good, speakers are fine, and lots of music.
