I planned a trip to Fort Laramie and was looking for places to stay in the area. So glad I found this one. I was a little apprehensive at first because it wasn't in the town of Laramie. I couldn't have been more pleased with my stay at Twisters! Guernsey is a no traffic light town. Very peaceful and quiet. There is also so much to do in the area, besides Fort Laramie! Guernsey State Park is a MUST see! It's not far at all from Twisters. Probably about a 5 minute drive. The room I stayed in was cozy. It had everything I needed, cozy bed, and own bathroom (HUGE) with shower. The room rate was very reasonable as well. I was impressed when walking into the room. They provide some complimentary water bottles and some fresh baked goods (cookie and brownie) from the restaurant/bakery directly downstairs. It's those little gestures that mean a lot! One of the owners will communicate with you prior to your arrival. A code will be provided for the back door to the lodging area. It's located on the second floor. You will need to walk up a black metal staircase at the rear of the building to access the lodging floor. Another note is that it was quiet. I slept well and dozed off at a reasonable hour with no loud partying or people making noise. I loved that there was a lounge area right outside the room I stayed in. There were two cozy chairs with pillows and a table to rest your coffee on while reading a book. I used this area to map out the day's adventures while drinking my morning coffee. Also, the restaurant downstairs serves breakfast. Twisters will give you breakfast coupons for a free entree. Any extras that you order are additional charges. The entree and beverage are free. This goes with your stay, of course. Also, their meals are big! If you order the pancakes, plan on skipping lunch! I highly recommend the breakfast burrito! The owners are very friendly. It should be noted, the lodging (hotel) and restaurant are the same business. Don't forget to grab some goodies from the bakery before you depart. They provide wonderful options from cookies to sweetbreads. Loved that they have a bakery with homemade sweets. I highly recommend this place! I plan on returning for 4th of July weekend. I want to get back to Devil's Tower and marvel at the cosmos at night. Looking forward to returning! read more

What a great little gem in the heart of Wyoming! It's not big, only about 10 tables, but it's loaded with great food and terrific homestyle service. This is the kind of old fashioned diner that used to make America great and you'll love it! The burgers are handmade big & juicy, packed with flavor. And the Rueben is as good as you'll find in a NY deli. The decor is very clean and homey, and they have fresh homemade sweets and desserts to enjoy or to go. Good place for a newby in town to go and get something tasty to kick back and eat while taking a break from unpacking.. Food cooked just right and cinnamon rolls big enough goes 2 people to share! This place is a gem the locals are happy to eat at which speaks volumes. I ate here both of my mornings in Guernsey and the prices are as great as the food! The coffee here is also delicious. Stopped in for lunch today based on recommendations from a couple of locals. I ordered the "Grown up grilled cheese," a grilled cheese supposedly made with brisket. What I got was a grilled cheese with a couple blobs of fat and gristle. It was not even close to being good. In addition, I ordered a side of seasoned fries ($4 extra) and got sweet potato fries instead. We weren't asked how the food was when we paid. They did have a little cabinet just inside the door with some good looking deserts but I wasn't going to tempt fate at that point. $15 for a fatty sandwich and wrong fries seemed a bit excessive to me. This place only received one star because 0 stars isn't an option. Party of three arrived at 1130. We ordered simple items (2 salads, 1 order of nachos). We waited for over an hour for the food. In that time we saw several people who arrived after us get their food, pay, and leave. When we asked if our food would be out soon we were lied to. Instead of owning the fact they forgot about us they made up a story about to go orders being placed right before our order. They definitely did have to go orders, but the people who arrived after us seemed to be getting their orders in a timely fashion so their explanation seemed more like a lie. Anyway, after a 1 hour 45 min we finally got our order. We switched it to a to go order as we really needed to get back to work. We drove back to work, opened our to go boxes, and found that only one of the salads received salad dressing. I suppose that is on us for not double checking the order before we left. So if you have a fetish for waiting a long time for food (starvation edging?) this is definitely your spot. For the rest of us I'd recommend trying other local restaurants instead. read more

I come up here for drill weekends and prior to discovering this diamond in the rough I was seriously eating only dining facility food. The interior is cozy, rustic log cabin feeling...literally. I love it. Western decor surrounds the tables. The menu is short and sweet. Tonight I had the brisket with potatoes and beans. Brisket was savory, nice smokey flavor and moist. The potatoes reminded me of a home cooked meal, the bread roll was freshly baked. Everything is made from scratch here, and it shows. They have a nice little coffee menu as well but I have yet to try anything from it. Perhaps next drill weekend. The staff is super friendly and knows most of its patrons by name. Would have given this place 5 stars because it is a clean cafe. Great interior with a rustic look. The food it very good and the homemade pies are fabulous. We stopped in for lunch after visiting some of the historic Oregon Trail sites in the morning. All 3 of us had a great lunch. Food was delicious and served fast. I had the crispy chicken sandwich and it was fantastic. Thick and tender with the crispy surface. Wish we had the time and appetite to try their pies too. We history buffs enjoyed the hometown atmosphere and the history pages in the bathroom used as wall paper. Neat idea! The waitress was very good and everyone was very friendly. They were also serving a few groups of visiting National Guards troops and all of them were enjoying their meals and were treated with great respect as they should be. Marie took us to see all the historic sites....Oregon Trail Ruts, Register Rock and Fort Laramie. She had tried to eat here one time but it was closed. We feel lucky that it was open today. We were welcomed as soon as we walked in and had drinks on the table as we sat down. Sandwiches were fresh and large. I went in with seven other people after doing some training at Camp Guernsey. I was there before years ago, so we thought we would relive some delights...here's what happened. We were able to find seats that were freshly cleared by other customers. They were quick enough to clear the mess and wipe the tables. That was the other girl, then, we got her - our waitress. Rude, rude, rude, rude, rude, rude. I'm not sure if she thought she was being funny, but she wasn't, not even a little. I asked as a simple question like 'do you serve beer here'? The response, 'do you see beer here'... I asked if the brisket was made here - another rude, stupid response. Wow. That was pretty much the service for the other seven as well. But there's more. It took a while for food to come out. When it did it was about five minute increments, so nobody really got to each together. Then one of the orders didn't come out, my buddy tried flagging the rude waitress down, but she was too busy trying to flirt with another table. Finally he got the attention of the waitress and asked if his food was coming out. Boom - a rude response, something to the effect of, 'how am I supposed to know you didn't get it'. Wow. More rudeness on top of rudeness. This was one of about five times where I didn't leave any sort of a tip. This place gets two stars only because the food was OK considering there are only four restaurants in the entire town. Note to owner: We were there for about a week and that was the first place we went. We will never go there again because of that rude waitress. Because there are few restaurants there we ended up going to the Lunch Box every day where they were happy and nice to us. That waitress cost you about $1,000. We'll also be sure to tell our buddies about how rude the service was. read more

We stopped here after the eclipse. Very busy but expected. We had a cheeseburger and panini. Both were well made. They apologized for losing our order. The time was so short we hadn't noticed it. Fried chicken sandwich special was average, Gringo Italian - just bad: spongy roll with ham and cheese fried in a weird smelling fat.
