I cannot recommend this company enough! They were hands down the best moving company I've ever dealt with. From the representative that called to schedule to Bryan and Will who were our movers. They were the fastest to respond to our moving request. They had no problems with switching our moving date because our closing date on our home changed. When I called with follow up questions, Carly was extremely reassuring and gave me peace of mind that they would be able to handle our move! Bryan and Will showed up and were ready to work. This is a long overdue review. We've moved a lot - even across the country, but this was one of the worst moves even though it was local. This was a big move with valuable furniture and art. The loading went OK since we had already packed everything except for the furniture and art. All the boxes we packed were labeled by room and contents. The damage was discovered after the move. If the Forman chosen for the job is not good your move will be expensive, difficult and there will be damage. The guys they sent worked hard but not smart because the Forman was inexperienced. He did not focus on priorities that would make the move smoother, He was in CYA mode the entire time. He pointed out minor flaws in a few pieces of furniture that we already knew about and acknowledged. The irony of all this CYA is that these movers or rather their forman deliberately hid damage that they caused. * They damaged the wall in the stairwell of the destination we moved into by gouging the drywall and chipping the paint. And said nothing. * They chipped the glass of an expensive dining room table top. And said nothing. * They spilled Gatorade on the carpet in one of the bedrooms, covered it up with boxes. And said Nothing. * At the destination they dropped boxes that were clearly marked by room just about anywhere and everywhere. We found boxes marked "Kitchen pots and Pans" in the garage. * They left Art sitting in the hot sun * We had specifically asked that the beds be unloaded and set up in the bedrooms as one of the first things upon arriving at the destination, to determine what other furniture would fit. This was repeatedly ignored. Instead they dragged their feet but kept asking where certain pieces of furniture were to go. The move ended up being much more expensive by 30%. Take this is a caution. Maybe if you're a student and you have inexpensive stuff - things like this will not bother you. But if you have things you care about. Maybe you can hire a company that can do better. We just completed an interstate move from Virginia to Delaware with 2 Men & a Truck in Charlottesville. From the first phone conversation I had with Carly, to Nyk and Hunter unloading our belongs in Delaware our experience was TOP NOTCH! Carly and Nyk completed our estimate. They were on time, thorough, and professional. Nyk (who ended up being our driver and loader) was able to offer wonderful input on packing certain items and how they would be loaded with care for our move. TLDR: The Charlottesville Two Men and a Truck service will steal your belongings. I recently used two men and a truck in Charlottesville for a move. At the beginning of the move everything was going smoothly. My two movers were Jesse and Logan. They seemed kind; they introduced themselves and stated that they were new. I was concerned about this but gave them the benefit of the doubt. They did stop for about 30 minutes to take pictures of inventory on the truck. It is unclear if I was charged for this time. They stated that they were unsure if I would be. At the end of the day it seemed that I was, given that they arrived at 11:30 and the move lasted until 4:15 (I was charged for 4.75 hours). This is an extra 100 dollars given the 200 dollars per hour cost. Upon arriving to the destination, it became apparent that these were, indeed, new workers. They were dragging cushions across the wall in the stairwell, and scratched the wall in the stairwell in multiple areas with other pieces of furniture. They did try to get the scratch out with a 'Magic Eraser' sponge, but it ended up just taking the paint off the wall. They did file a damage report for this and that is fine, I figured we could get it repaired after without problem. We have used Two men and a Truck before for other moves (in other states) and there has been no issue with coverage of damages. The workers then spent approximately 1 hour attempting to take apart our bed frame. We have never had this issue before with other Two Men and a Truck services, despite having had the same bed frame in the past. In total, the bed frame alone added approximately 2 hours of work to what should have been a very quick move (with prior Two Men and a Truck providers in other states). They also scratched the walls of the stairwell again with the bed frame. These are all problematic things with a moving service. Ultimately, we settled up. I still included a tip, despite all the damages. I also provided them water bottles throughout the day whenever they needed it. I thought it was all over. As I go to sit down for the night it becomes apparent: THEY STOLE MY NINTENDO SWITCH. I contact the office and it soon becomes apparent that they are not going to do anything. I implore you to not use a service with movers who WILL STEAL FROM YOU. Furthermore, they work with a repair service which seems to be contracted by them. When he was evaluating the damages he stated he would not provide a quote and he would repair the damage himself. Furthermore, the insurance they provide requires a 100 dollar deductible in order to have services rendered, despite not providing a quote. DO NOT USE THESE MOVERS. read more

We moved from the West Coast to Charlottesville into an apartment complex. We talked with Jeff informing him our belongings would be arriving in a 28-foot ABF trailer that would be parked a short walk from stairs. We also informed him a six-person team packed the trailer for us in about 4 hours at our home. When the Two Men and a Truck team arrived at our complex in Charlottesville, there were only 3 movers. They did not have a four-wheel dolly or a ladder. They used our ladder. To avoid the stairs, they unloaded the ABF trailer into their Two Men and a Truck truck, drove it around to the front of the apartment, then unloaded. It took twice as long, we were charged 2 1/2 times the quoted price and it took twice as long as it should have. Terrible and irresponsible of company management. Beware! read more

This company is secretly discriminatory in their hiring process. I'm a member of a not so small minority of people, but I was more than qualified for the job, I had a great interview, passed a drug test and even signed new hire paperwork. I was open about a victimless charge I received in 2010, was told it wasn't a big deal because there was no victim, it had nothing to do with theft, it wouldnt be an issue. I was told that after they received the background check I would hear from them. After three weeks of silence, I called and they rudely told me to look at my email. I've worked for 3 other moving companies since 2010 and my employers and customers have nothing but great things to say about me, but Two men and a truck wish to punish me for something I've already been punished for. read more

On the day of the move, the movers came right on time. They were very courteous and energetic. We lived in a 3-floor townhouse and moving furniture from the top two floors was not easy. Part of the job was OK but most was not. Note: 1-I had to go to the new location to show where to put the remainder of stuff they followed me there after they said they finished. I went back after they left and found piles of stuff they just left behind and had to rent a UHaul to take the rest later that week 2- They start charging when they leave the office? Why is it my business where their office is or how fast or slow they arrive at my place? 3- I pointed out hat I had 3 pieces of furniture (in addition to paintings) that were very valuable and to take special care of them. We recently moved from Charlottesville, VA to the Newport News, VA area. The estimate process went smoothly, and we appreciated Jeff coming out to look at the size of our move to give the most accurate estimate. The three young men who arrived on our moving day were prompt, kind, and worked quickly to load our things around our four young kids and dog. After they delivered our belongings at our new home we did notice some cracks in the frame of one of our bunk beds, several missing assembly screws/bolts, etc. from the bunk and loft beds, and two handles on a dresser broken. Dave and Rachel worked with us on the best rates and sent a great team of movers to handle our delicate antiques up 3 flights of stairs... without a scratch! Both moves were large and challenging with our homes exceeding 4,000 sq feet and navigating tight corners. Our second move required storing our entire house for 9 months... Dave found our climate-controlled and secured storage needs at a great price which relieved a huge burden from us so we could focus on our house hunting. On moving day, the crew was energetic, professional, and caring. They stayed until every piece of furniture was in the right room and in the right spot. The temperature was high but there were no complaints from the men. After working with Dave, Rachel, and their crew for both of our moves (one was long distance), I couldn't imagine working with a different moving company. Going though a divorce, I used 2 Guys and a Truck last November and didn't do any comparison due to the chaos. I called them back for a second move. "Mistakes" were found on the # of men per hour on the estimate...and then I was told I needed valuation coverage. Disappointing service and far, far more expensive than expected. First, I asked them to move our portable (but large, heavy) generator, but when I made that request, I wasn't told that I had to drain it of gas. And, on moving day, I didn't have time to do so, so it was left behind. So, I have to go through considerable bother now to retrieve it. I think 2Men&Truck should compensate me for this expense. Second, the team completely ignored two pieces of furniture on the list, so I had to make an effort to go back and get them. Again, compensation? Third, the team that came, while earnestly nice and reasonably professional guys, they were clearly a group who were assembled at the last minute who'd never worked together. Their norms of interpersonal communication were being invented on the spot, so when they'd get to a bottleneck situation, like a wide piece of furniture in narrow, steep staircase, they'd take way too long to discuss the way forward. I was paying by the hour ($275 for team of 3) so that meant every 15 minute session of discussion and trial & error on a staircase would cost me $68.75. I've seen pros who could communicate non-verbally get through more difficult passages in 10 seconds, so these many delays were excruciating. And, not just because they probably cost me $750-$1000 more than I should have paid but because the whole moving day went into the evening because of their frequent delays. Furthermore, the inefficiency and wasted time meant we were all so tired by late in the day that everyone was moving even slower -- which meant I was paying for even more time on the clock! Now that I've sat down to write this review, I'm feeling prompted to perhaps contact them and ask them to go take care of my generator, mentioned above, to compensate for overcharging me for a job not very well-done. So, my advice is: avoid 2 Men & Truck and indeed any company who you pay by the hour unless you know you're getting their crack team! read more

They've been great with their service and their pricing, and we even had some more stuff delivered for them to keep with the rest of our stuff (no extra fees). Where to start, under estimated, both in hours and weight, and storage. In the storage unit found crushed boxes, broken stuff, golf bags upside down ( as though thrown in ), and the worst organized stacking I have ever seen. ( I used to work in stocking things ). I do have pictures of it all. And the biggest problem is the company does not care. They will say sorry and all the right stuff but will not compensate the damages done or the very unprofessionally done work. Very very disappointed and over charged for such a job. The 2 men that showed up were very nice and personable. But they did not work together which caused great damage to my flooring. The men recognized the damage and wrote it up accepting responsibility. The supervisor did not contact me so I called them. It took 3 days to receive a call back. The supervisor said they would not cover the damages due to me purchasing the lower level insurance package. I did not purchase the higher one because they were only moving 1 bedroom set. I explained the damages would not have occurred if the men worked together as a team. Each worker attempted to carry heavy pieces up my steps themselves (despite 1 worker offering help to the other). Since the furniture was pretty heavy the worker slid the furniture across the floor in the hall to eliminate having to carry the entire way. If they had worked together the furniture would never have touched to floor to begin with. The supervisor would not accept my complaint as valid and preventable. He offered to send a $50 check. That would not cover the damages in the least. To top it off, I have not received that check and it has been over a month. They will not return my emails nor phone calls. I would think twice before using this company! read more

We recently used Two Men and Truck to move from Charlottesville to Durham, NC. I want to begin by saying that our movers Mike and Arvay were spectacular and worked extremely hard despite their coworker not showing up so it was just the two of them. Our issue was with the company Two Men and Truck. We moved out on Saturday, October 21st and were set to close on our house on 10/26. There was some damage done to our house that we were moving out of which Mike did a great job of noting and writing up a work order for. This damage needed to be fixed prior to closing on our house, but we were never contacted and had to call the "manager on call" multiple times to get in touch with anyone. We were told by the "manager on call" that Two Men and a Truck would not come and fix any of the damage that was done to our house and offered us $250, hoping we would just accept and they wouldn't have to do anything. $250 didn't even cover the cost of the insurance, let alone the damage, and if the damage wasn't fixed before closing, we, the customer, would've had to pay the buyers of the house for the damage that occurred to our house. Finally after much arguing, the "manager on call" offered to refund the insurance cost, but this did nothing to help with fixing the damage. We still had to drive over 7 hours round trip to go and fix the damage ourselves. On top of not fixing the damage and trying to not compensate us properly for the damage, all of our belongings did not get transported because the estimator, who guaranteed everything would fit, was wrong. This again required us to rent a cargo van for over $200 (plus gas for a 7 hour round trip) to travel back to Virginia and collect the remainder of our belongings before the closing of the house. Again, our movers were wonderful and would hire them again, but not if they worked for Two Men and Truck. This company did nothing to ensure their customer was satisfied and instead argued with us and created so much added stress and cost to a process that was supposed to be simple. read more

We had two movers get our stuff from Charlottesville to the Philadelphia area. The two people they sent were super nice, moved our stuff quickly and professionally, and didn't cause any bit of damage to the walls or floors of either apartment, including some narrow staircases. We did have one small knick in an end table, but it was nothing that couldn't be fixed easily. If that's all the damage that comes out of an interstate move, I'll take it. read more

Before you hire Two Men and a Truck in Charlottesville, VA, please read this about our experience using them. We hired Two Men and a Truck form Charlottesville on August 5, 2017 to move some of our heavier household items approximately 75 miles. During the initial telephone call to set up the move, the office contact assured me that their crews were professional and would protect our furniture and houses during the move. Since this move was greater than 30 miles, we were charged by weight and mileage. Therefore, there was no need to rush to get everything quickly loaded and unloaded as the clock was not a factor in the cost. The three-man crew arrived on time the morning of the move and surveyed the items to be moved. I stressed to them that I didn't want any damage to the items of the houses during the move and they should take their time. The driver of the truck appeared to be the leader and inspected our dining room table and pointed out every little blemish to my wife. The crew then started to load our stuff on their truck. During the loading, I had to again ask them to be careful, go slowly and not bang the furniture into the door jambs. When we arrived at the new house, the driver asked if the office had told me about payment being required before unloading. They had not. After payment, the crew acted like they were under tremendous time pressure and quickly started to unload. Again, I asked them to be careful and not bang things into the walls and door jambs. As the dresser was brought in, we saw several white scuffs on its base. When we called the movers attention to this, two of them told us that these were there before the move. They were not, and upon returning to the origin house, we found damage to the bedroom door jamb where the dresser had been rubbed up against it. The crew banged the refrigerator into the door jamb of the new house despite my asking if they had sufficient room for it to pass. While moving a refrigerator-sized safe, the crew dropped it from a hand-truck onto the gravel damaging it. They had not strapped the safe to the hand-truck...unbelievable! The crowning blow was discovered when we returned to the original house and found a 14" snag in our carpet upstairs. Apparently, they had dragged a bookcase across the carpet and snagged it without saying a word. The damaged carpet will cost almost as much as the cost of the move to replace, as it can't be fixed. Two Men and a Tuck said that the 'Basic/Standard Liability Coverage' insurance that they recommended and provided for free, and which we accepted, limited their liability for wall and floor damage to $50. Had we purchased the 'Full Liability Coverage' for $350 the wall and floor limit would have increased to $250. After much discussion, we ultimately accepted the best compensation we could get from them for all the damages which was far below the actual costs to repair/replace. We are still repairing door jambs and have to spend $1260 to get our carpet replaced. The total cost of the move is about twice their fee. While I thought I was hiring caring, well-trained professional movers, I was in fact getting essentially three guys and a truck. I could have gotten a better move by renting my own truck and hiring three folks off the street to help me. I would have been time and money ahead if I had done so. Think carefully before hiring Two Men and a Truck. You might get the same things we got. read more
