I had a horrible experience with IJL. I worked with a variety of "matchmakers" who were "certified…read morelife coaches." All engaged in argumentative and rude behavior. They made it very clear that my opinions and expectations were meaningless. I am a professional woman in my mid 50s, very athletic and trim, youthful appearance, and an extrovert. I chose to go this route because I have a demanding but wonderful career and thought that IJL would provide access to high-quality, interesting people. When I first spoke with the assigned matchmaker, I admit that my BS detector started to ring. Her responses were very scripted and felt false. I (sadly) ignored my BS detector and proceeded. I was matched immediately--with someone who was the antithesis of my ideal date! It was if the IJL employee simply and randomly took a person off the shelf and said, "Here you go!" My date was equally unhappy--he was looking for someone who was ready to retire with significant down time, not someone working 60 hours a week. After that disaster of a date, I was matched with an individual 2 hours away. I expressed my concerns about the distance, and was told by the next matchmaker, "A 2-hour drive is worth true love." Um....ok? It was also obvious that the individual had no idea of the geography of my city. Guess what? The gentleman cancelled the date, because of the distance. Instead of the 4 guaranteed dates, I had 3...and was then told that I could have the promised 4th date if I renewed my membership. Another falsehood--freezing your membership comes with consequences, despite the advertisements. I froze my membership for 2 full months and was not given the time back as promised. IJL is based in Florida and staffed by telemarketer-type individuals whose primary objective is to enroll people into their program and make quotas. Period. There is no professionalism. I've been treated better by used car salespeople. I"ve considered going to the BBB and lodging a formal complaint, but I would rather spend my precious time engaged in better activities. Perhaps this site works better for men. I know that I did not have a positive experience. I would advise any 50+ successful, professional woman to ignore the promises and hype and put the money to better uses.Shoot, losing it in Vegas would guarantee a better time than I had dealing with IJL!

Back then it was an MG-B, and they installed this wonderful Alpine system with the component tweeters and woofers that I used to deafen myself on road trips following the Dead. Remember, you couldn't buy a car with a decent stereo back then, so having this system was amazing at that time. I had them help me with a Civic Si in the 90s, after I got out of school, and the system included a nice tube subwoofer in the back seat, which no one was using anyway. I could do most of the installation myself, but when I inevitably ran into trouble, I went back to Radio Active for their expertise. Then I got a job and a baby and a BMW M3 (4 doors) in the 2000s. The Blaupunkt that came with the car was very nice, but I needed an upgrade to be able to use an iPod. This went well beyond my knowledge, so I went back to Radio Active and another Alpine. The iPod went in the glove box and I could control it with the stereo knobs! Remember, this was more than 15 years ago, so this was all amazing technology at the time. Now, after having a minivan for the past 10 years, I have a GTI. Rather than overpaying for the stereo upgrade from VW, I'm going with the basic radio and heading to Radio Active for some professional advice.
