We started with a very yummy chili with cornbread followed by the best pork belly we have had with a yummy almond butter sauce (lord!!) and then finished it off with perfectly cooked flatiron steaks with yummy cowboy butter! Oh and Chef even brought us some crispy cilantro rice that was also just a masterpiece of flavors. I don't know how many times I stopped during our meal to exclaim "this is SO GOOD" ....but it was many. That was the food- the people and service were as if not more impressive. Taz, the innkeeper who served us was incredibly kind and friendly and even brought us a complimentary champagne toast, which was so nice and appreciated! Again Rosa was hilarious and so sweet to us and then we met Shannon who brought us our desserts at the end of our meal and also made us feel like old friends. The front desk girls were so sweet, welcoming, and ready to take care of whatever we needed and the Innkeeper/GM, Taz, wow! She seems to do it all and does it with such grace and kindness and pays attention to every guest - no matter how busy. We enjoyed speaking with her and learning the history of this little tucked away find. And what a find! What a location! Magnificent views and so peaceful, yet so many things you can do - especially nothing at all! Exploring was so much fun! They have an age limit of 13 years so keep that in mind if you have kiddos but what an escape and needed respite for us. They make fresh baked cookies in the morning - so delicious. Service overall was impeccable and we felt well cared for. Even better than warming up by the gorgeous fire and having our cocktails hand delivered was the food. The Chef most definitely has talent and the quail was perfection - also such creative presentation of his dishes! Who knew 5-star quality dining was waiting for us in such a perfectly remote location. It is so gorgeous up here as the weather turns cooler but we will definitely have to come back in the summer to take advantage of the water activities. We met beautiful people during our stay and if the fact couples make it a point to keep coming back years later doesn't speak to you about how special this place is, maybe the fact that you will witness hospitality at its finest and truly hard-working human beings who not only serve up an amazing experience but true kindness. There were a total of 14 of us and we had plenty of room for everyone. The "Gathering Room" was huge and let us spread out to relax, talk separately, watch tv and even take a nap. The Dining area was perfect! We had enough room to use one table as a food/buffet area! My Dad wanted to rent somewhere that all the small families could come together from all over the south east. He's 85 and wanted to make sure we all got together at least one more time before he's not able to travel anymore. I'm so glad I found the Blue Boar Inn to give him his wish! I mentioned this to the clerk and she said 'Well, you can't have that room'. She gave no explanation for the change and why I was not notified of the change, so I asked for the manager. That person was unavailable for the two day stay. The room I was given is much smaller, there was only one bed, it was more expensive than the room I booked, it is noisy and the air conditioning was malfunctioning. I booked a room in the Lodge and check in was super far where the Lodge was. You have to drive all the way down to the front. Follow the signs!! It was alittle confusing at first. The Lodge room is like a hotel so that's why I picked it. I did not want a cabin or mini house in the area as they offer other kinds of rooms. The room was nice. It's a tiny outdated with the a/c but that's okay. There were ton of small tiny bugs in the room and also the lounge area on the first floor. There are no microwaves inside the room but there is a refrigerator. There is a tiny microwave on the first floor lounge area. Room service is alittle lacking as they don't make the bedsheets. This place can work on their house keeping and cleanliness of the lobby area. They keep their front doors and all doors open so it doesn't not have the best security. So definitely keep your room doors locked. There is a restaurant called Hazel's which I did not try but will next time I stay here. I can't wait to come back again!

It had a full kitchen with stove, oven microwave refrigerator, and sink. The AC was fantastic! The furniture was extremely comfortable, including the bed. Great shower and warm/hot water. There are hills and curves throughout the entire property. We were able to see Lightning bugs every night and it was a calm and relaxing stay. There is parking for trailers near the general store. We brought our motorcycle on a trailer. We parked the car and motorcycle at the cabin and the trailer at the parking next to the general store. We went to Quill's Cantina and enjoyed their food. They have souvenirs, coffee, and a Christmas store next to Quill's Cantina. We never made it to Hazel's restaurant. The pool was closed during our stay, unfortunately but there was a playground area available. You could also rent golf carts if you wanted to. We were minutes away from the Fontana Dam and the Marina. They have a gas station near the General Store too! This is a good place to stay and relax. There are motorcycle enthusiasts and car enthusiasts due to the roads in the area. 30 minutes to Robbinsville (nearest town) and 40 minutes to Bryson City.

The bed was pretty comfy and I liked they had pillows labeled as firm and soft on the pillow cases so you could easily find your preference. If you opt out of daily cleanings/towel changes/sheet changes, you get a point bonus which we opted to do since we were only there a couple nights. The only downfall was noise carried a bit through the door and walls. I could hear kids running around in the hall and TVs on a couple of times, but it was never enough to prevent me from falling asleep or wake me too early so not a big deal. They have complimentary breakfast, but I'm a late sleeper and not a big breakfast eater so I never checked out the offerings. Coffee was available in the room. Overall, we had a good stay here at a good price and I'd book this hotel again when visiting the area.
