Philip who runs this bike garage (it can't really be classed as a shop), is such a character. If you can get past his surly manor you'll fall in love with a true gent who cares about the world and the people who ride their bikes on it. Last night I was cycling along when out of nowhere my back wheel slipped from under me and I fell off. Looking at my bike I realise I had a totally flat tyre and had to walk all the way to my destination - I was in a total grump about that! On my way I pass Halfords and another little bike shop on Stoke Newington Church Street, both closed. I was filled with fear. This might mean I'd have to get the bus to work tomorrow. This is not good. Luckily I stroll pass a brightly coloured bike chained up to a church which says "Love Bikes - open for bike repairs". It's the first time a church has ever really spoken to me. I hear angels. I stroll on down and Philip invites me in. I explain that this happened to the front tyre a week back and Lock 7 had to replace the whole thing. "Oh no no no, that'll be expensive. And by the looks of it, you probably don't need to do that. We can patch it up. Give me 10 minutes." So off I stroll and 10 minutes later I return to a fixed tyre. Apparently, there was no need to replace it, they patched it up perfectly for a fiver. On top of that he said I could leave a donation. A DONATION to fix my bike! Wow! Now I think I was squizzed by Lock 7, they did a quick fix that made them the most amount of money rather than actually looking to see what the problem was. Not here though, Philip, also cleaned my chain and gave her a little bit of a fiddle and she now rides like a dream. Philip is my go-to bike man. Here is the kind of business that needs Yelp, a place where a real person's experiences sell the service services. This chap is fabulous. Also, if you are caught out late at night, as I was, Philip is open still hanging out at his shop and he's more than happy to help. He also sells bikes, but nothing stolen so he has a special place in my heart.

Since the day I bought it, I've had problems with the wheel constantly touching the frame, the gears which never worked. They promise customers they replace with new parts but it was clearly not the case with my gear system. About once a month I returned to the store to get my bike fixed (which they always did for no charge), until the day I was riding my bike on Kingsland road and the handle bars snapped. This was one year after I had bought the bike. The bars entered the wheel while I was in motion, and catapulted me to the ground - I got into a bad accident resulting in spending a full day at the hospital getting x-rays to see if I had any fractures. The worst part is, the bike owner takes no responsibility in any of the accident, claiming it was my fault that the handle bars snapped. I've had bikes my whole life, never have I had one with such cheap quality components . Since the accident I brought the bike back to him so he could examine the defaults, and till this day he's been unwilling to return my bike to me, nor has he offered to replace with a new one or refund the amount I paid for. Bikers beware, if you buy a bike from here, don't be surprised if you are left with a faulty bike. Or get ripped off buying a new one. I've since spoken to bikers and bike stores in the area, who have told me these guys have no idea what they're doing.

It needed a new cassette - they used a second hand one - tried to charge me full price - and the 'new' one doesn't have the correct gear ratios. Brakes are poorly adjusted - I've just redone them myself. The 'repairs' carried out were just what I mentioned when I dropped the bike off, I do not feel that any other checks were carried out. Such a shame - they used to be a great shop you could trust.

Stuart is a very knowledgable bike technician, who doesn't make non-bike-geniuses like myself feel like idiots. Crucially his prices are also quite reasonable and he doesn't exploit your lack of knowledge on bikes by conning you in a repair you don't need. He will sometimes tell you, Nah you don't need that in his opinion. I've been to Stuart now quite a few times. He has been able to sort out all sorts: gears, wheels, handlebars, regular maintenance. He does it all. Stuart's open hours really are his competitive advantage over the 100s of other bike shops just in east london alone. I even wish Stuart would expand his business and hold bike maintenance workshops and courses!

I went to A&S with the impression that they were a nice, friendly company and of course knowledgable on how to service a bike such as mine. I am no bike expert and this was used against me when I questioned the work they had supposedly done on the bike later. I spent seventy pounds and stated if it would cost more I'd be happy to pay this as I my aim was for it to be a safe ride, nothing difficult. After they had spent 'time' on the bike, I took it out for a ride. It was in terrible condition still and actually in a worse state than when I originally took it in. The pedals wouldn't pedal at all, and it was actually impossible to ride. I took it back and explained, but the mechanic told me he could see no problems with it. He also stated how much he didn't like old bikes and that I 'should have bought a mountain bike'. After an incredibly irritating talk, I left feeling unsatisfied and seventy pounds lighter. I took the bike to Isambards Cycles. They couldn't see that the mechanic at A&S had actually done anything apart from change the tyres (big whoop). After getting my bike serviced at Isambards really well, for a very small amount comparatively, I feel like A&S totally ripped me off. I would never recommend their service. Go to Isambards Cycles. They are personal, friendly, efficient and non patronising, unlike A&S.

The line waiting at the bus stop gasped as I dragged myself panting on to the curb. Tinker has also been a little flat recently. Her tyres that is. I have to pump them up most days. So all in all, Tinker is feeling a little sorry for herself. That was, until I wheeled her into Fullcity. Who, with open arms greeted her like a long lost friend. Squeeze her tyres, pinged her cables and generally made her feel like the prettiest bike on the block. I love Fullcity for this reason. They want to spend time on your bike and they want to teach you and show you how you can help your bike too.There is always a gang of couriers willing to pipe-up with opinions and suggestions. By the looks of it, Tinker will be losing her gear and I'm getting her some new inner tubes. With labour and parts, the tyres will cost £11. Billy bargain.

I rang these guys to ask when I could bring my bike in to get the rear disc brake fixed, and any idea how much it would cost. I was told they couldnt book me in for a week. After 2 mins and 30 seconds on the phone (I checked), the guy told me could I please get off the phone as he had had 3 customers leave whilst he had been on the phone. 2 minutes and 30 seconds! I wish I had said, you've just lost a fourth and hung up, but you only think of these things after the event. Have subsequently heard similar stories of bad customer service there from mates. Maybe they do a good job and that's why there was a weeks wait for a disc brake pad, but i'm not going to put up with that sort of chat. If you're so busy, hire someone new to serve customers if the phone rings Ended up going to micycle in Islington, who had my brake fixed the following day, and were super friendly with it. read more

They identified a number of problems with my current bike, and helped me prioritise which I should pay them to address, which I could fix myself and which weren't worth me sorting given that I was about to get a new bike. Very honest, and much appreciated as a woman who is often bamboozled by unnecessary bike jargon. They even tried to help me with parts for the new bike! I've returned several times, and Mark has offered me on-the-spot advice and quick fixes. I have now bought an expensive road bike and have absolutely no hesitation in taking it to Stratton Cycle. This is the first time I can say that after trying MANY bike shops in the area. The store front is very unassuming, but the service offered is second to none - I'd highly recommend for low to high end bikes!

Being the rider if the bike I thought only I knew!!! The price for the basic service is well priced and does what it says on the tin. They have a range of services available which cover different aspects. They assured me if it needed further work they would contact me before undertaking the work. The shop has a good range of bikes, children's, teens and adults. They also stick the usual array of cycling clothing. The real plus side to this shop is its location just a 30sec walk from Norwood junction station so if you commute to work via Norwood junction it is way to drop off and collect your bike. The only downside was they lost my number so I had to go back to the shop to see if my bike was ready, which it was so no biggy!! So all in all they do provide a quality service (minor hick up aside) and I shall be using them again in the near future that I am sure of. I would have given them 4 stars but they did misplace my number ;) So if you are in the area or thinking about getting a bike/servicing your existing ride hop off the train and give them a go.

The roads around Liverpool Street aren't the best and can be pretty rough on a bike especially when suspension pretty much doesn't exist. I've blown two tires trying to beat traffic and each time I've called around to the bike shops. This one has been the only one that has managed to find 5 minutes to squeeze me in immediately and get me on my way rather than telling me to leave my bike for a day or two while they continue with the routine maintenance. It's much appreciated as I hate having to give up my bike for something as routine as a quick tire repair. I should learn how to do this myself, but for a tenner for labour, I'd rather just pass the job on to these friendly folks.

Why say things when I am ordering and completely say something else. I called the head office and I am told it will take roughly 7-8 weeks and the w-6 weeks may not be weeks it could be business days (that bits interesting) and whilst I was on the call it "got disconnected" (strange). I would definitely avoid buying things from cycle surgery. Not surprised now as I looked at other review forums. #learnfrommymistakes.

The staff here are passionate about cycling as a sport and probably have been since the day they first sat on a tricycle. As well as having a huge range of mountain, racing and all kinds of bikes, they are immensely knowledgeable and good at repair jobs. On the downside, it is often quite difficult to get served you really do have to fight for their attention. Be prepared for a bit of cockney banter and you can even haggle down the price on occasions. This is nothing like shopping at Evans Bike Superstore, but so much more of a personal and interesting experience.

Right now I have the Suspension in for a Full-Service and with the help I received and the knowledge Bromley has displayed in the field of Mountain Bikes it was a easy choice to send the Suspension to them and let them handle the service. Personally I think it is a great little shop, but then I do cycle round in ripped shorts and 3 year old trainers - on a bike that only gets washed by the rain. Their target market is firmly families and leisure cyclists, which is not surprising given the local area, but they do stock some serious kit too. I've used them in the past for quite a few repairs, and they have always been helpful, cheap, and fast. UPDATE***** Thought I'd update my review to let people know that Sidcup Cycles has a Saturday morning ride starting at 8.30 split into different levels of ability (something to suit everyone). I went out with them and they are fantastically friendly, even to the point that one of the guys came back for me when I got lost. I'd highly recommend both the shop and the ride - i'll be back !

Outstanding customer service (eg personalised text messages updating you on progress of your service), excellent quality of workmanship, customer-friendly opening hours, and keen pricing. I called round 3 other places (both independents and chains) and their pricing was the most competitive. They have various tiers of service available and once they see the bike recommend which you need (not necessarily the most expensive they recommended a more basic one for mine). They also offer as standard a free follow-up check to ensure everything is still working smoothly, 4 6 weeks after every service, which I believe is unique among bike workshops (at least I've never seen it anywhere else anyway). They also really know what they are doing on the technical side the mechanic Troy said he has been doing this for 15 years. A proper old-school independent bicycle workshop the place is owner-managed and you get the feeling that they really care about you as a customer. Would not hesitate to recommend them.

They ponce around as if they know more than Lance Armstrong or Chris Hoy put together. Peer disdainfully at your ride if it's not worth more than 4000 pounds. Actually, they would probably still frown upon a 8000 pound bike, because the front brake lever or some other component is not made out of carbon! So it would be okay then if the staff treated you with friendly honest service. They should all go on a trip to America and see the meaning of customer service! I'm off to wiggle my saddle elsewhere.
