When I first came to Denmark 9 years ago, I was definitely not a fan of ryebread, let alone smørrebrød. For me, these bite-sized open sandwiches fall most definitely under category of snack, not proper lunch. But of course, 9 years is a long time to change my mind, and although I would still prefer something else if I could, I would definitely not refuse an invitation to eat smørrebrød here for lunch. The menu is short, especially for lunch, but they do have lunch special that my friend got (I couldn't because it was selected by the chef and one of them had chicken on it and I don't eat poultry) so I had to go with a la carte. Mine was smoked salmon from Fanø with shrimp and egg salad. It was super delicious. My second course was fried place with capers and mayo that was also equally delicious, but the salmon was the best of the two. The fact that they have Jacobsens beer to go with the lunch menu is awesome. I love Jacobsens - especially the dark beer and the beer goes with the smørrebrød nicely. I could see that people also drop by here not to eat lunch but to have tea and sample their cakes and chocolates. They all look great and I must try it next time. Maybe I have changed my mind about smørrebrød - at least the one in Tårnet is very nice. PS: Service was perfect as well.

A free view of the city is not a bad deal! So you should do it! Well can't say it is comparable to the vor frelsers kirkes view in Christiania, but as it is for free it is very much worth it! It's perfect for budget travelers and for people who can't go up too many stairs, as there is an elevator that brings you almost to the top. I particularly liked the floor before the top with all the statues. Take a look at them, they are very interesting. The tower is in the heart of the city so it is very easy to reach. You need to go through security to get in but it is a very fast process. What might take a while is the elevator queues. You need to use two elevators to reach the view area. Generally I thought it was a well organised process. Good pictures can be taken there! It is not as narrow top as others in Copenhagen so there is lots of room for many people. The only thing that makes it harder for a good picture to be taken is the very high railing. Better for me though that I have a fear of heights! Don't go on a Monday as it is closed.

I visited Tårnet a few weeks ago, together with a friend. The visit was quite special, because we had talked to the owner in advance, and he had promised to have a cup of coffee with us, and tell us more about the restaurant. So my view is definitely colored by the great story he told, and the amazing service we got. However, each time I looked around, all other guests seemed to enjoy themselves, and everyone seemed to get great service as well - so I've decided that it's okay for me to write a review anyway. My friend and I were at Tårnet for the cakes - and not for the food. This day there were seven different ones to try, and we shared one each. All of them were good, some where fantastic. I found to favorites, that I will try again, if the cake menu is the same the next time I come. I'm pretty sure that they change it every now and then. Three cakes and a coffee i 135 dkk, which I think is a really good price, when you think about the amount of cakes and the quality you get. Tårnet is 100% organic, which I think is amazing. When looking through the menu, it feels like everything is thought through. That goes for the interior design and the atmosphere as well. The view from the tower is amazing, and if you want to leave your table and sit in the window instead, that's okay. The restaurant has even put out pillows in the window, so you can sit there.

Beautiful food! Each dish was plated gorgeously, I almost didn't even want to eat them! The decor is lovely too and you had a nice view of the parliament courtyard. I did feel that the price point was too high. Service was also a bit slow and we had to flag down our waiter a lot.

The place is definitely worth checking out and it is a very cool place to take visitors. I was in a business lunch it was a little too loud for a business lunch. The view you have from the top of the palace is breathtaking the whole experience in the tower it is very nice has a lovely decoration that gives a cozy museum feeling. The lighting is soft the tables small and comfy. The menu was a little disappointing as there is only smorrebrod for lunch but on the other side they were very good so again great to take people visiting they get classic Danish food and a great tourist tour. I tried the salmon and the chicken but the salmon was my favorite. I also tried their special apple juice that was really good I really recommend it. The location can't be better just off the city center. All in all I recommend it for an expensive open sandwich lunch and a touch of tourism.

There is something distinctly unique and exciting about the opportunity to enjoy an excellent meal sitting a few hundred feet above the seat of the Danish government. We started by hitting up the top of the tower/Overlook for an incredible view of the moon rising. I cannot stress how gorgeous it was and the mood it instilled. Then we went down into the restaurant itself, which sits just below. It is simple in decoration, but very clean and modern with an architectural taste that I loved. Service was decent, if not exceptional. However, the piece that really set it apart was the main course, which was a large trunk of perfectly cooked fish. The butter sauce used for the fish was spectacular, and it was one of those moments where even if you're not a stalwart fish fan you fall in love with the dish and cut it into smaller and smaller pieces to enjoy every single bite.

So when National Geographic named the Top 10 places in the world to eat ice cream, Vaffelbageriet…read moreactually ranked #9. I didn't realize I was patronizing the ninth best ice cream parlor in the world when I took a sweet-tooth respite during my leisurely evening stroll in the world-famous Tivoli Gardens last September. In fact, I didn't know the place had a name, but I just saw a herd of toddlers with over-sized cones and followed the drip marks on the pavement. Those led me to a very festive-looking pavilion with a welcoming counter chock full of sweet treats not the least of which was ice cream. Apparently, the name of the place is Danish for ice cream served in large waffle cones, which no surprise, is their house specialty. Their most popular item is the Amerikaner, a decadent-looking mountain of ice cream in a waffle cone, four scoops worth ladled with some syrupy, only-in-Europe topping, dollops of whipped cream, and a chocolate-covered meringue puff rather than the expected maraschino cherry. It doesn't look like anything I've seen in the states, but it's called the Amerikaner because it's the picture of unhealthy excess, I'm guessing. What a reputation we have across the pond. I refuse to live down to my stereotype and went for a good old-fashioned vanilla soft-serve waffle cone covered in chocolate sprinkles, large of course (see photo). Sure, it was still decadent but at 30 DKK (Danish krone) or $5.32, it was a relative bargain. And frankly, it was one of the creamiest cones I've ever had, which of course, means it's still sitting in my thighs all these months later. No matter since it hit the spot, and for Pete's sake, or I guess I should say for Per's sake, it was Tivoli, and you're supposed to have carnival food. So stop judging me. Anyway, I don't know if Vaffelbageriet is truly the ninth best ice cream in the world, but who's complaining? "The name comes from the appearance of the first bakery, which was a square building with alternating cream-colored layers resembling a layer cake." This bakery also serves breakfast items, brod (open face )sandwich and coffees. Here is a sample of pastry offerings in Danish: Wienerbrød: The general term for what English speakers call "Danish pastries". Kanelsnegl: A cinnamon roll. Spandauer: A pastry typically filled with jam or custard. Frøsnapper: A pastry sprinkled with seeds. Tebirkes: A poppy seed pastry. There are numerous locations for this bakery. I visited the location in main hall of Kobenhaven K or Central Station before catching my train to Kronborg Castle. The space was filled with people who were grabbing a ticket and then wait for ticket number to be called. I was indecisive and thought I saw a pastry with lemon filling. The employee who seemed a bit flustered told me that it was not lemon and she did not have anything with lemon. It turned out to be vanilla custard which was just as good. I also tried the green sprinkled marshmallow ball. She placed my two items in their own bag. I wanted a shopping bag which she snidely says "It cost 5 krone". Unfortunately, my New York response was snide as well, "I don't care". The two pastries were delicious. However, service needs to be as exquisite as the items you sell, unfortunately this location is lacking in that. There is another, smaller located downstairs from concourse whose employees are sweeter. Nok sagt or enough said.

It's set up with a clean design that's very photogenic/Instgramable. They have a variation of chocolates made from cacao beans from Ecuador to Indonesia and a café that serves all kinds of mostly chocolate-y drinks and desserts. And for all the jokes about me being obsessed with chocolate, everyone was pretty involved in browsing through this store. I got the "Ice Cream of the Gods", which is a very soft serve in a cone and the option for either a chocolate or a salted caramel drizzle. And it's so GOOD. Even my dad, who was skeptical about spending money on something so simple, said it was worth it after having a taste. Translated from Chinese, the consensus was that it you could really taste the milk, which made it sweetly rich rather than richly sweet. We also happened to be there between the times they were switching out samples, so we got to try the Billionaire Shortbread Chocolate Selector (caramel, cookies, and hazelnut) and a dark chocolate bit that I didn't get the name of. In hindsight, I deeply regret that I didn't get the Billionaire Sundae, a dessert based on their Billionaire Shortbread Chocolate Selector truffle. Overall, super nice and really wish we could have hung around longer, even sit down and try out more menu items. If nothing else, drop in for a free sample, but just from what I tasted, I'd say it's worth it to make this a short stop.
