Nothing compares to the compassion and loving atmosphere that Ms.Elizabeth has bestowed on her students. Ms. Elizabeth is a fantastic instructor being a dancer herself for many years. My granddaughter does tap,ballet,lyrical,jazz and pointe. Everyone there is so welcoming and helpful regardless of their dancing ability. We are very glad we joined LWSD. It's not only a great dancing experience for her but it's a Joy seeing her come home tired but excited. I had a gut feeling walking in to Miss Mona's that we hadn't chosen wisely. The two older women who seemingly ran the organization spoke to the children in a tone that reminded me of Joan Crawford in Mommy Dearest and when they weren't belittling children, they were gossiping salaciously about other dance schools in the area. Against our better judgment, we tried anyway because of the vocal component. It didn't last and after the first recital, we politely informed them via email that we wouldn't be returning. Today I just paid the summons on the court filing issued against us for quitting this horrendous farce of a performing arts school more than two years ago. They alleged that we owed them fees plus interest. I suppose this is what you must resort to when your school is failing and you need money. You have a family member who happens to be an attorney file frivolous law suits against ten year olds who hated your environment so much that she cried before every class, even though this very activity was her passion all her young life. If you're new to the Roanoke Valley, trust me...avoid Miss Mona's at all costs. My daughter is now thriving at Divine Dance Academy, but there are so many options in our region. Do yourself a favor, find one that isn't run by mean spirited has beens looking to make a dime at the expense of your child's self esteem and passion.

BIG MISTAKE apparently. When you join you are made to sign a barrage of paperwork (yes-for a 5 year old). If you do decide to back out expect a VERY aggressive call from the owner about legal action for payments after cancellation - such as a recital you will not be attending and associated dresses etc. For a small town such as Salem I am surprised that this business model is the one they have chosen. The overall experience for my child was harsh and negative and it was for the parents too, just a place to be avoided-for a 5 year old. Update: we just received a letter requesting payment (after we asked for the bill so we could be rid of them) with a notice saying they will call collections if not paid-friendly and courteous is not in there brand. We will make sure everyone in our circle, schools and family are aware as well-good luck if you are involved with them!!

We also had the chance to attend family camp last summer, so even my Husband got to experience the camp. It is impossible to write all the wonderful things about this camp. I loved it growing up and my daughters love it as well. It is likely the most talked about experience in our household all year. Camp Alleghany does a wonderful job teaching girls self-esteem, independence, kindness, hard work, and determination. They have a myriad of activities to choose from and it allows girls to have experiences that they may not otherwise. Yes, kids are gonna be kids and not everyone's gonna like each other. It needs to be enforced that all kids should be respectful of others. That's not how the studio is if you have a problem and you bring it to Delisa or Valerie's attention they will put you off, my granddaughter attended here for seven years she poured her heart and soul into this place. She helped student teach there for free. She didn't get anything out of it was helping the teachers student teach. She was on every last ensemble team, except for clogging and she worked super hard, but her work went very unnoticed, I had complained last year about the teams that she was placed on because she was not growing at all and it's like she was being treated very unfairly. This place is highly greed, favoritism and drama definitely not family oriented at all, you have mom's literally sitting there telling their kids not to be friends with other kids there at this studio. It's not a kid problem. It's a owner staff and also definitely a mom and dad problem. I had a 300 pound grown man stand up and get in the middle of a conversation I was trying to have with the owner, and the owner didn't do anything about it, once again after my son and I left reviews because my youngest granddaughter also was on the ensemble teams for one year she was actually there three years. She got singled out just as bad as my 12 1/2 year-old did, thats when delisa got the clock together to leave good reviews, if you are a person that wants to be a part of the dance mom show and you like that kind of stuff. This is the studio for you and your kids. If you despise that show then I highly recommend you stay away from the studio because like I said, we wasted seven years lots of time and energy on basically nonsense. Stay away from this place if you know what's good for you, just the other day the studio had 3.7 stars and that was before we left reviews seems kind of weird now that they got five stars!!!!!!

We have been totally impressed with the Jefferson Center. Free parking on a tree-lined street, immaculate facility, friendly and welcoming staff, and invariably terrific performers. Jefferson Center is one of the biggest reasons why we are glad we moved to Virginia.
