I rented a trailer today and returned it on time. The trailer was fine but pickup of the trailer was poor. The trailer was hooked to my hitch by the attendant but he did NOT explain that the 'release' tab on the hitch had to be pulled very hard to release the hitch so that it could be lifted off the ball. When returning the trailer (after the Blackfoot location was closed) and attempting to remove the hitch, I had a lot of difficulty. Finally my father drove down and helped me and with him pulling the release as hard as he could, I was able to easily lift it off the ball. It would have been much, much better if the attendant had demonstrated this when I picked up the trailer. As well, when I called the U-Haul Roadside Customer Service, they were totally useless. They were not able to give any advice and would say only that they would send someone out to help if I agreed to an immediate payment of $300.00!! And they call this "Customer Service"! Needless to say, I was not at all impressed and refused the charge. They then told me that if I damaged the hitch in any way while unhooking it, I would be liable for damages, even though I paid for full damage insurance when I rented the trailer. U-Haul equipment may be fine but their service is absolutely terrible. read more

Despite a whole load of crap, this location's uhaul staff were awesome. We went to rent a 4x7 trailer for a dump haul and buy a hitch for the car. The online store sold us the wrong size hitch and provided us no other options. It didn't fit our car and the staff took it back. The line up for service was super long. The 4x7 trailer was hooked up by Joe and he did his best, but our old car wiring wouldn't work. So he wired, unwired and installed and uninstalled the trailer. They even took the new smaller hitch back used. Then we rented a van, which was quick and easy. The price was decent and the van worked well. 5 stars to the staff at this place, 4 stars to uhaul in general for being reliable but missing the mark on things sometimes. read more

Went and placed an order for a locker. Confirmed it l. Went in and was told they didn't have a locker ready for us. So they gave us a larger locker at the same price. Or so we were told by Brent Diebert the general manager. Well the first payment came due and the amount was for the larger locker. We had moved to Toronto and unable to go into the store. We have spent 17 days trying to have him call us back. We called customer support and they emailed his manager and him asking him to call us. Still nothing. But he did have time to email us and tell us the locker payment was late. read more

Please save yourself the nightmare of dealing with this location. I've tried to get an issue rectified for months and no one ever returns calls. I'm lucky to get to speak to someone after a 45 minutes hold. Nick, the general manager, was zero help in rectifying the situation I was in. In short: I came to this location to get wiring for my hitch/brake controller fixed. I was told several times, by Michelle, that the wiring was going to be fixed under warranty. The first appointment I showed up for I was told they didn't have time to fix the issue (despite an appointment and extensive conversation about what needed to be done). So I made a second appointment. When I showed up for that I was told they didn't have the proper wiring in stock. So I booked a third appointment (on a day where I told them I had a medical appointment at a specific time). I was told the wiring would be installed in a matter of 3 hours. So I showed up after 3 hours I was told my vehicle still had an hour's worth of work (so I missed a critical medical appointment) AND when my vehicle was returned to me I found out the the wiring installed on my vehicle was not wiring to my brake connector so I still wasn't able to use my tent trailer. The manager, Nick, refused to rectify the issue (claiming he conveniently couldn't pull up the recorded calls in which I requested, specifically, wiring for my brake controller and Michelle assuring me, after checking my file, that it could be done under warranty). As a result, I am left with wiring for which I have no need and hours and hours of time spent on this issue. Basically to be told 'too bad for you! We can offer to rip it out for free!'. Don't. Just do yourself a favor and don't deal with this business - you'll save yourself an awful lot of grief! You complain no one LISTEN! Very arrogant Mechanic! This store is on chaos! I had a reservation for bike trailer for trailer and appointment to fix the wiring, first thing the mechanic says hes not gonna get pain for this as it is "U-HAUL Warranty" then when I show up on time he storms in my face shouting with Ill manners I complain he shout on the manager! I took my bike to the garage I had accident and brake a bone and yet NO ONE CARES!!! read more

Worst company ever used. Called to make sure I could park overnight they said yes ( either street til 9 or on lot). I told desk person where I was parking overnight she nodded. I got in rented van and realized the first time I needed to use side windows they were caked with mud and I had no vision. I got to US border to drive thru and he was furious my license plate was unreadable. There were no instructions about locking the van but by accident I found that all 4 doors had to be locked separately AND if the doors are all locked but the driver opens the door all the other doors unlock. Got back to Calgary UHaul told them the windows and license were mid caked they said oh sorry, nor compensation. I got in my own car to find a $75 ticket from Calgary police for parking in a private lock. I haul said that was my problem and they wouldn't call the police to what th draw the ticket telling me I couldn't park there even thought I was told and directed by 3 people. This review comes two years after the rental but I still smart after the service I received. I also just starting posting on Yelp. I call our rental, U-Hell. From this location we rented the largest truck available along with a car trailer for my move to California from Calgary. We were given a truck that had a problem. It's check ABS sensor warning came on the day after we loaded it. The noise was penetrating and a concern. We informed the location about the problem, buy they could do nothing for us on a Saturday but asked us to return on Sunday to switch trucks where they would have movers help us. On Sunday, we received no phone calls from the location and after several calls to them we were told that they could not help us. We were told to take the truck to another location in the south of the city where there was a mechanic. We had to wait a day for the repair. When we picked up the truck and left, we had the same trouble a half hour later. We phoned U-Haul's national help line and they asked us to take the truck to a GMC dealer in Lethbridge. The repair took a couple of days as we had to wait for parts but the issue was resolved. The experience took 4 days longer than our projected move time and 4 days for my husband to be away from his business in California. I will give U-Haul's national helpline a credit for helping us and reimbursing hotel and living expenses for the 4 days, but as for this U-Haul location on Barlow Trail they did what seemed to me all they could to not deal with our problem. If I move again I definitely will not use U-Haul. If you do want to rent a U-Haul avoid the Barlow Trial location. read more

Rented truck for Sep 2 originally. UHaul contacted us said truck reserved in Regina 20 minutes away wasn't available. Truck available for Sep 1 in Moose Jaw 200km away. 200km gas in the SUV and 100km gas in the truck which wasn't economical. Rented storage at Barlow Trail. BRUTAL!!! Reserved a UBox on Oct 29 for Oct 31. Said someone would call me Tuesday and at 3pm hadn't heard so I called. Had flight 4:30pm on Wednesday and had to leave for the airport at 2:30pm. Told them about my flight. I was told that the guy gets in at 4:00pm and he'd call. 7:30pm Got call from a girl not the manager guy and she confirmed for 11am Wednesday Oct 31, 2018. I told her about my flight. So they're 2 hours late. Asked driver if he could come back in 2 hours to pick it up and he said "yeah no problem." Stressed urgency of picking it up about 3 times and said that I was leaving. Had to scramble to load the box and had 14 minutes to get ready for the airport. We called and told them to come get the box as the original window by the condo was 9-12pm. That night still there. Next day I called in the morning and told them to pick it up. Hours later still there. Called and told them to go pick it up. They came which was about 24 hours later. I made numerous calls trying to file a complaint and was run around in circles. I filed with the BBB. First UHaul said they gave me 2 days notice on the truck so I called my travelling companion and she said it was less than 18 hours. I agree but I have no hard evidence. Then they told the BBB that they gave me extra days and 100 extra km. Okay, here's the thing: The truck came with more days than I needed and mileage was more than covered already as it exceeded the distance I was travelling. Only needed 2 days so basically they weren't doing me any favors as they tried to prove to the BBB that they did me some kind of favor. Also they said I agreed to the terms and made it sound like I was happy to drive 200km to get a truck... I needed a truck to vacate the property. What choice did I have? On to the UBox. They said to the BBB that the box was "only" delayed by 2 hours. Did they not read the part where I stressed the fact that I had to go to the airport at 2:30pm and I had 14 minutes to shower and get ready? They told the BBB "the box was picked up the next day in accordance to his reservation." I called and told them who I was and I was on file. Reserved a box for Oct 31. Took my VISA gave me a reservation code. End of conversation. Absolutely no info about anything to do with the box or 24 hours to pick up. For 17 days no info on box. No contract/rental agreement/reservation agreement/unit/box number. About a week after arriving in Ontario I noticed Barlow Trail had charged me $235 so I suspected where it went but wasn't sure. And not long after they took $1002. I was given no notice whatsoever. I used to get notices for storage but these two charges came out unannounced. I never had any idea up front how much the box would cost or any other details. I never signed anything, no emails, not even a phone call. I gave them my card but it would be nice to be informed how much and when they were charging me and to be given some sort of formal documentation. I expected something like an email at least. So everything they said to the BBB was irrelevant. They offered me $100 and some $150 thing on a future rental? I had to use an advocate to talk to them I'm so stressed. She got a contract number Nov 15. And the box was supposed to be delivered 5 minutes from me but now I have to drive a half hour or so to Milton. Reserved a truck from Discount. One of my top worst experiences. read more

I didn't even book a trailer with the woman who answered the phone as she was so rude! I mentioned that I had checked with another location regarding availability of a trailer and I asked if she could do the same. She told me the other location shouldn't have done that and when I asked other questions she kept saying "as I told you already....". Wow brutal customer service so I told her that I must be bothering her so I'll contact another company. read more

Absolutely terrible. If you can go anywhere else or it will be more worth it to just burn your money. We moved and received our U-Haul bins well after the "guaranteed" date of delivery. When we did receive our bins they were damaged physically and also our stuff had water damage. We were told by Shea Laverty that the delivery charge was not going to be charged and not only was it charged they double billed us. Unbelievable, terrible, stay far away. read more

Van cargo area smelled very strongly of cat pee, that also appeared in the cabin soon after departure. Had to double wrap our two sofas in plastic wrap to avoid transferring the smell, which also permeated to the cab. Staff were unapologetic and tried to bill extra for fuel based on their arbitrary fuel level system. Luckily the gentleman at the desk resolved this extra charge. Make sure you inspect (and sniff) the vehicles well before use. Price was reasonable but experience is miserable. read more

Rented a moving truck from this location when we moved end of Sept. We were told by the agent at the till that we could drop the truck at our final destination and when we tried to do so the following day, we were told that was NOT on our contract. And, even though they knew their agent messed up and did tell us we were able to drop off the moving truck at our final destination, but bcuz it was Not on our contract they Basically called my husband and I liars and were told there was ABSOLUTELY NOTHING We could do about it and NOTHING they would do to make it Right! Tried charging us well OVER $300 for Wrong destination drop off. WORST customer service we've EVER experienced. I've ALWAYS dealt with companies that take pride in keeping their customers happy. NOT this place. They were Rude and Extremely unprofessional. Will NEVER deal with this company EVER Again!!! Piece of advice if your Crazy enough to go thru this company check and DOUBLE check your contract, REGARDLESS of what the Agent tells you. I rented a u haul trailer from a Montreal location to tow my motorcycle when I moved to Calgary. The trailer they gave me was solid light weigh aluminum and fit perfectly on the back of my Honda accord. I loaded my bike and drove for 4 days. I had no trouble at all. When I arrived I dropped off the trailer at the u haul on Meridian Road. There were no surprises. The people were friendly and the whole thing cost just over $100.00. Amazing... to think i was going to buy my own trailer. Good work u-haul!! read more

We booked a 15 foot truck online and went to pick it up on June 26 2016 @ 1pm. When we got there, they did not have the truck we booked and instead gave us a 17 foot. When I booked online, I was told I had a $50 money back guaranteed by U-Haul, if we did not get the exact equipment we booked. It is their guarantee that they will have the exact equipment you booked, else you get $50 back. Well, when I mentioned this, they gave me some excuse about how there's no actual guarantee when you book online and refused to give us our $50 that we were guaranteed. Not only that, but she lied to me by trying to tell me that I didn't book a 15 foot truck, except I had the email to prove her wrong. Yet, she still denied the $50 guarantee. Normally, I don't leave bad reviews, but the employees at this location were very rude, had horrible customer service and did nothing to try and fix the situation. Do not go to this location. They will rip you off and treat you like garbage. read more

I am very disappointed in the customer service of UHaul. I want to preface my complaint by saying that the actual customer service representative was only doing her job and what she was told, she is not the cause of my complaint. We booked a truck from June 26 to June 30 at 9:13 am to go from Edmonton to Calgary. On June 27th, our land lady informed us our move in day had been changed to July 3rd/4th due to unforeseen repairs. The next morning, when we called UHaul customer service to see if we could extend our contract, we were informed this would be impossible because our truck had been booked as of June 28th at 11:00 am. I informed them I had two copies of our contract describing our due date as June 30th. I asked what she thought we should do about our stuff in the mean time. She let us know that we could use the Barlow location monthly rental space for free for one month. This would have been fantastic if there were any spaces available, but there were not. I was still miffed that our contract would not be honored, so I asked to speak with the manager, since managers have the authority and experience to deal with these situations. I could hear him in the back ground telling my customer service representative what to say to me, so when she told me I could speak to his voicemail, I was confused. I heard him in the background say "No, Edmonton to Calgary is a one day move. No. They're always trying to get more days out of us, so no.". I asked to speak with the manager again and was immediately transferred to his voicemail. I left a message with my phone number and my boyfriends phone number, along with a request to call us back. It has been more than two days and we have not received a call back. We found a friends garage to put our stuff in and brought the truck back on June 28th before 11:00 am, but I am very upset with the "quality" of customer service we experienced with UHaul this time around. It is disappointing UHaul does not honor its contracts and it is disappointing who they choose to put into management positions. read more

We booked a 5 x 8 ft trailer and two furniture dollies at $7.00 each.. When we got to the office, we were told there were no dollies available to "rent" but they would be glad to "sell" us them at $19.99 each or "hey - for an even better deal - they'd sell us two of them for JUST $30.00" - but the answer to that was no - really - what would we do with 2 furniture dollies after this piano move? Then they said we could check with Home Depot - maybe they had some. That's a big help ... Then we had to buy the wiring adapter because our van has a 4 pin round and their wiring is 4 pin flat ($13.00 more). We were on a limited time frame to move to the piano, so we took the trailer for the day and just about killed ourselves getting it into the trailer. We were most upset that no one seemed concerned that they didn't have what we ordered ... I guess they have enough rentals that they don't have to worry about customer service? read more
