The Mall of Berlin, Checkpoint Charlie, Potsdamer Platz, the Brandenburger Tor, the Holocaust Memorial, the Reichstag, Unter den Linden, Rausch Chocolates, Gendarmenmarkt, and Topography of Terrors are all 5-15 minute walks from the hotel. We had a room on the quiet back of the building (Leipzigerstrasse is a very busy street). The only noise we heard was from the person above us because the floors are not carpeted. Our room was large for a city hotel and well organized with a safe and a Nespresso machine. The room was clean but housekeeping was a bit spotty during our stay. The staff at the front desk and in the breakfast room were all friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was included in our room rate and it was a fantastic buffet. Made-to-order omelette station, tea bar with several types of tea and fixings, cappuccino machine, smoothies, juices, sparkling wine, breads, rolls, sweet breads, meat, cheese (including lactose-free cheese), smoked salmon, cold cereal, lactose-free milk, English breakfast items (tomatoes, mushrooms, baked beans, sausage, bacon, and scrambled eggs), soft-boiled eggs, porridge, and fruit. But, no bananas. WiFi was fast and we did not need a code daily. Logging on was very seamless.

The room itself was very spacious and comfortable. They also offer free wifi during your stay which is very helpful but you have to be sure to request the codes daily. I loved the bathrooms which were stocked with plenty of amenities and the shower was great. I plan to stick with the NH chain for any future visits to europe

I apparently got upgraded due to Radisson status, and my room was great, very modern design, spacious, and several huge windows that opened fully. Comfortable bed, everything well maintained and supplied. The location is in an interesting lively area with short connections to useful Ubahn and bus lines. The interesting areas in Berlin are so spread out that easy transit access seems more useful that a short walk to any one thing.

On Reid, poor little Reid at the front desk- he has no idea of good customer service. We asked for a glass of water while we waited and he said since we are not members he could not give us a cup of water. Poor guy has not been taught good hospitality. Honestly felt sorry for him since he's been taught so poorly. We gave little Reid some tips on customer service (while he argued with us), smiled and gave thumbs up as we departed. Come on Reid! Do better!

So I decided to play it safe and book a hotel. I found Lindemann's on hotels.com, and made a booking for the first night. Right afterward, literally within one or two minutes, my friends called me up, and I no longer needed the hotel room. Unfortunately, it turned out that the cancellation policy was such that none of my reservation could be refunded, since it was within 24 hours, even though I had just booked it. So immediately I called up hotels.com, and they said that usually in cases like this the hotel would be reasonable and refund the money, that I should just go ahead and cancel the booking, and that they would get in touch with the hotel. This I did, and later I heard back from hotels.com that the manager at the hotel refused to refund the booking. I have to say that I find this pretty unreasonable: it's not like the hotel lost an opportunity to give that room to someone else during the 20 minutes it took for me to cancel the reservation. Obviously I cannot speak to the quality of the stay, but this interaction makes me seriously doubt the way this hotel treats its customers. I wonder what other ways the management finagles money out of people who choose to stay at this "cheap" hotel.

I had low expectations regarding the rooms and that was a good thing, because my single room on 4th floor was simple. It had a desk and a chair in a rather sterile room that gave me a hostel feeling. The wall to wall carpet did not smell right either.. Other than the carpet, room was clean. So, why such a good rating then? Well, breakfast was nice, view from room was nice, it was cheap and located exactly where I needed. In other words, this place is awesome if you have not planned to stay much in the room. It's a short trip, one stop or 20 minutes walk to Mauer Park and Oderberger strasse or Kollwitzstr. Lots of lcoal stores nearby as well as pubs. So, even though my room was simple, everything else was splendid.

The LED TV did not have USB ports. There is no ventilation in the room save for the exhaust fan of the bathroom. However, even very close to summer the room was kept comfortable by opening the windows that look down into the garden and night entry. I generally recommend this hotel to folks looking for a decent rate, while not expecting very luxurious surroundings.

If you can only deal with a Hyatt or Westin, this is not the place for you. If you just want a relatively clean, and inexpensive place to stay near a major subway station that is easy to get to from the airport, this is a great buy. Getting here is easy from Berlin's Tegel airport whether you speak German or not. First, get a Berlin S + U-Bahn-Netz Urban Rail and Metro map and never part with it! Never! When you leave the airport turn right and go up the stairs over a pedestrian bridge and take the TXL bus for 1.5 Euro and get off ten minutes later at the Buesselstrasse train station. The bus stop is right in front so walk fifteen steps then go downstairs and take the S1 Oranienburg and get off at Gesundbrunnen a major train stop. When you exit this station you will see the Gesundbrunnen Center. You want to go in the opposite direction. Cross the major street, make a right, go about one hundred yards to the Le Femme restaurant and make a left. Go up the street past the Holiday Inn until you get to the corner. Make a right at the corner and City Lights is fifty yards on the right. The hotel personnel were extremely helpful and friendly. It is difficult to get an early check in but there is a storage room where you can leave your bags. They will give you a key to the storage room and tell you that you can leave your bags there. At first I was concerned that anyone coming after me would be able to take my bag because when I went to the room, it was full of bags, some very expensive. When I questioned the very helpful young lady at the front desk named Pilz she gave me one of those looks that said, nobody will steal your bag so I left for four hours to see the Berlin Wall and when I returned the bag was right where I left it. This lady was really helpful. The room was dormitory style. First I will give what might be perceived as negatives. There is no air conditioner or bathroom vent. There is no maid service, no ice machine and the bathroom tissue is as soft as a rough paper towel. The television is an old thirteen inch CRT from the eighties. I had a room up front and it was quite noisy from traffic and people passing by. I got used to it quickly and wound up leaving my windows open for air. There are quite a few positives. The hotel is next to a major subway station where you can get the S Line that circles Berlin or the U line which connects to everything. The aforementioned Gesundbrunnen Center is a really nice indoor shopping mall featuring moderately priced restaurants, a food court tons of clothing shops and a great supermarket called REAL. This supermarket takes credit cards and has a huge grocery section which came in handy since I was able to get fresh salami, cheese and vegetables for my room. The people at the front desk speak moderate English and if you give them the names of the places you want to visit they will circle your subway map for you. They will also provide you with a cup of ice and change your Euros for you. I noticed that many large groups stayed at this hotel. Here are my suggestions: 1. Bring toiletries as if the hotel does not provide them because they don't; 2. When you retire for the day bring soft drinks; 3. Bring your own toilet paper and soap; 4. Spend some time at Hackerscher Market; 5. Eat at one of the restaurants along the Spree River across the river from the Berlin Cathedral; 6. Eat at one of the restaurants (like The Green Bamboo) in old East Berlin that are about two blocks from the Berlin Wall; 7. Definitely go to Friedrichstrasse station and walk along this street because the shopping is amazing; but many restaurants, including the fancy ones DO NOT accept credit cards.
